As seen in the screenshots released so far, we can see trade route on sea where the number of ship ciculating on them show you clearly the volume of trade going on that particular trade route. Not only it looks good, but it is actually useful to the player. I was wondering why don't they also do it on land? It would be cool if we can actually see roads on map that would do the same thing, but it would be even better if the roads network could be connected to the provinces improvement so that you can upgrade them and with that, improve the trade in that province and armies movements speed. Graphicals improvements can be useful to show particular information directly on the map. That also can be applied to the way cities look depending on their tradeing power and size, so large trading hubs will have a harbour, dockyard, market area, larger cities actually being larger on the map, etc..

What do you guys think?

They probably will have these features, but if they don't, these would be awesome. One thing to add: Trade Routes should change due to geography, getting less rich in deserts, more rich in Forests, etc.

Would love to see that. You get the satisfaction from seeing your country's economic success (not just ever expanding borders) and it doesn't involve some kind of overly detailed system to get lost within.

There's a screenshot of horses and carts travelling along a land route.

IMO :

Trade routes should tend to trade thru as little countries as they can - we don't want to pay customs every 3 miles.
Having good fortifications, and stable country should increase trade routes.
Better roads should mean more trade.
