I've got a save file right now where I have X trade power in an african trade node. If I turn several of my provinces into trade companies, their provide trade power goes up. Significantly. But them my trade power in the node goes down considerably. I'm not sure why this is happening, as I'm trying to get over 51% for the free merchant.

Could it have something to do with autonomy going up in the trade company province? Cores vs territories vs states? Marketplace buildings existing vs not existing?

In short, how is my slice of the pie getting thinner, despite my trade power getting larger.

Your absolute trade power in the node should not go down in this situation. Trade company provinces ignore autonomy when calculating trade power. Did you wait one month tick after loading the save before assigning the trade company? Autonomy in your territorial provinces is wrong during the first month after loading a game(and because of that trade power is also wrong). And after assigning the trade company provinces, you have to wait till the next month tick so that all values are recalculated.
But your relative trade power in the node might go down if somebody else also gets more trade power.

I can certainly let the month roll over, but if I didn’t, does it fix itself? Or does it assign the wrong value, since when the game loaded it had the wrong value due to the glitch?

I believe it properly attached. It's the guinea area, in the Ivory coast node in Africa. As Spain I've got several provinces there, and England is my main competitor. I crunched the math on the provinces trade powers, and then assigned them to trade companies. Sure enough the trade power climbed, but my share of the node plummeted.

Eager for feedback on this, so I can keep going on my game. Perhaps it's working as designed, or it does have to do with the month rollover glitch. Just doesn't seem to click with the arithmetic.

If the save file load didn't work, let me know, but I believe it's good. Thanks again all.

You get the right value after a month tick. But it can look like a decrease because you had the wrong number in the first month.

I had a look at your save game. When adding all provinces in the ivory coast node to the trade company, the trade power share of your trade company provinces increases from 39.2% to 47.3% and your total trade power in the node increases from 930.4* to 959.9 and your trade power share increases from 77% to 78%

If you just conquer the provinces with trade modifiers that England owns in the node, and add them to a trade company, you can easily get above 51%.

* if you let another month pass without adding provinces to trade companies, the trade power in the node decreases to 921. I guess some province modifier is running out at the same time.

The reason it goes from 77% to 78% is because in his linked save, he's already added the provinces to the TC, there's only one province in the TC region that hasn't been added.

We need a save from beforehand to compare it properly.

I don't believe I have that one, nor do I have the save open currently. But perhaps because I'm occupying Englands provinces, my number is inflated. But if memory serves, I took all englands provinces in the peace deal. I'll just have to see how I get up over 51%, and move past it, but I'm eager to see if I can recreate the same numbers that you guys calc'd out.

I did, yes. If I hadn't, would I have 2 slices in the trade nbuode? One for Spain proper, and one for Spain-trade company?

I've been curious of the benefits of NOT making each node a part of the TC (as some have very low trade values to begin with), but honestly one doesn't venture into a TC area for tax income and manpower, after all, but for that sweet sweet "trading in" 20% of XYZ bonus. Slaves and Ivory are particularly nice.

I don't know what a" nbuode" is supposed to be. Are you talking about the trade node window? There is no extra entry for your trade company there. AFAIK you can only see the share of your trade company if you hover over the merchant icon in your subjects tab. The trade company only counts the trade power from your trade company provinces compared to the trade power from the provinces which don't belong to your trade company(your non-trade-company provinces+provinces of other nations) . In your save, there are two provinces missing from the Portuguese Guinea Company: Capo Verde and Ngoyo. The last one is important, because it is an estuary. If you add these provinces and the three english provinces that you have occupied and the provinces from Oyo in that trade node to the trade company, your trade company will have about 66% of the provincial trade power in the node.
