I play as Eire in the grand campaign. All of a sudden I have a trade level of 1, how is that possible? I didn't see any event that changed it.
That's where latin nations normally start. Or higher. There are just a few exotic and pagan nations, which start at trade 0. Even then, research to lvl1 is quite quick.

I just thought it was strange that I was making between 4-6 gold in my trade center then all of a sudden I'm just making 0.25 - 0.40. So it looks like my trade level was degraded or something else happened that make me earn much less in my trade center now, I just don't know what it could be.

Perhaps some of your merchants was kicked out of a COT? Trade income is generated by merchants and multiplied with your trade efficiency which in part is made up out of your trade tech level.

No, the same amount of merchants are making 0.25 - 0.35 instead oof 4-5 gold as they did from the start. Oh well, since this happened pretty early I might as well start all over again :)

Exactly when was it you made this huge amount of money from trade? 4-5d in e.g. 1419 is indeed a huge income from trade (if it is the sum you get after having multiplied with your TE).

There is, or at least was, a bug with the trade values of the COTs early in the game (perhaps only for february 1419). They were double or even three times as high as they should be. But I do not pay attention to that anymore since I hardly do any trading at all during the first decades.

But if I'd take a guess a go along with the TA alternative. TAs are bad nowadays. Earlier they were the key to success. Now they are not.

I think Daniel A has it right.

The values of each Trade Center are highly inflated in the first month after you start a game or load a save game. They will then adjust once you reach the 1st day of the next month. This messes up your budget as well, so be sure to doublecheck it one month into the game.

Don't read the manual! It's not good!

But those six TA, each inflicting -5% TE gives you -30%, and in the beginning of the game that means your trade income becomes 0.

Only go for TA's with nations that have a cot and are nearby, like England in your case.

Yes, I think I signed 5 or 6 trade agreements so not to compete with the other countries. I didn't know that affected my trade income in that CoT? Back to the manual :eek:o ....
I'll repeat what I often did say - do not read the manual, unless you have a very, very good grasp of the game (at which point you can read it for laughs). It is outdated, it is inaccurate, it has large portions directly copied from EU1 manual, it has information that never was true. Reading the manual will only deeply confuse you.

As for Trade Agreements, the penalty to having them was introduced in 1.07 (at 1 percent for each), and is now at 5% for each if you're playing the current beta. Which means that if you're playing the current patch and signed 6 trade agreements, you shouldn't be making any money from trade whatsoever early in the game.

And, in case it applies for you, translations to french were made by Poles (and translations to polish by Belgians ;) ). As if it was not bad enough.

Peps, this change to the TA is recent, it was introduced in one of the late betas.

Thanks for your help guys! I will read throgh that Guide, looks like something I could use. Btw, should I play with the 1.08 patch or the latest beta patch? I currently use the 1.08.
My advice would be to stick with the current full patch (1.08), and wait for 1.09 before you upgrade again. The betas often end up testing out concepts thought up by the various players who interact here, some of which end up just being repealed in the next version of the beta.

However, if you intend to play Multi-player over the 'net, you will likely be forced into installing the most recent beta patch.
