I saved the game as moscovy and reloaded the same sav as warsaw(whatever that little one-provence-minor is) to help the ai make a peace, They were in eternal war and never asked for peace. As they were my allies, i had personal interests of course... :p

But when i saved and reloaded as moscovy my trade level as displayed in COT hovertips has dropped to .01x and i cannot get it to go up. I have trade level 2. I cant find anything in the sav file information that allows the trade level to be directly edited. Its been 20 years since then and i have no earlier sav....ideas for fixing it?

[disclaimer] The last time i pulled a save-an-reload like this it went fine, but it was in 1.05 the last time i have done it. Yes im patched and all that. Yes The game was played entirely on 1.9 [/disclaimer]

- did you look at your trade efficiency before reload as Masovia (the minor you talk about)?
- how many trade agreements you have?

each trade agreement (also embargo) lowers your trade efficiency so you'd better not have more than 1 or 2 :)

The way I usually handle one of my vassals being in a war by themselves is, more or less, manually implementing what I would realistically do in that era: give a warning (which the enemy AI will ignore), then edit the saved file and put myself at the start of the side of that war where my vassal and ally is.

Then ask again, nicely. Sometimes it works. Then move some troops in my ally's province to repel any invaders. Then ask again, nicely. Then beat the seven shades of sh*t out of whoever was attacking my vassal.

Frankly, the way EU2 implements vassals is weird. A vassal is a part of my country, by medieval standards. A less centralized part, no doubt, but nevertheless a part. There is no fundamental difference between, say, Orleans as vassal (if you beat them in the HYW and release the duke) and York as vassal, even though in the game one is a vassal and one is a province of England. Both are vassals. They have different degrees of autonomy, yes, but essentially both are vassals and both have _some_ autonomy.

Thinking one could attack, say, Wallachia without being seen as attacking the Ottoman Empire is as silly as thinking one could attack only York without having to deal with the rest of England.

Or think of the Polish magnates or the Japanese daimyo. They had more autonomy than some vassals in the game, they had their own armies (which they were still supposed to lease to the King or Emperor if needed), they did their own managing the lands and fortifying castles, and occasionally fought each other or engaged in their own diplomacy. But in the game they're seen as just provinces anyway, because that's how it would work if you attacked one: you'd be at war with the whole Poland or Japan respectively.

What this long rant is getting to is: I shouldn't be the aggressor, nor in an ineffective second unrelated war to help a vassal. (Declaring war because of that CB just puts you in a separate war that the AI doesn't even understand as helping your vassal.) I should be able at the very least to give a "leave my vassal alone now or deal with me" warning. And if that doesn't work, then I should be able to not declare a separate war, but basically join that war as leader of an alliance with my vassal.

And since that isn't available, I'll just cheerfully edit the saved file to simulate it.

Yup. That's one reason why I prefer to edit files than reload as another country. In pretty much all Paradox games, if you leave the AI even a second in control, it does some really silly stuff. In some cases before you even unpause the game once you reloaded as someone else.

It does?! I have only played 1.5 before, that was my first 1.9 game. I couldnt find a list of gameplay changes

I signed the 1000 trade agreements personally not realizing that
