How does same vs. different religion factor in with trade?

For starters, is it harder to compete in foreign CoT's that are different religion?

Are provinces less likely to trade at a CoT of a different religion, in favor of a same-religion CoT that is further away?

Playing as Venice, if I end up in wars with Orthodox nations, should I only fight for the 10% required to force them into my league, or should I fight for 70% to get them into my league plus force-convert to Catholic? Is there a trade benefit to having a larger pool of Catholic nations, or will I make more money in my CoT if my neighbors' national religion matches their province religion?

If I'm just trying to rake in the most money, should I care what other countries have for their religion?

Anyone?

Should Merchant Republics take the opportunity to force-convert other countries if the opportunity presents itself? Would the new government be more inclined to join/remain with the Trade League since they are same-religion? Or would forcing a Catholic government on a country with Orthodox/Protestant provinces cause a drop in goods produced for trade at the Republic's CoT?

Or, if the country in question has a CoT, would force-converting them make my compete/placement easier? I think I saw some mention on the Wiki of a same-culture bonus, but they don't talk about religion.

You can see everything that affects compete chance by mousing over another nation's shield in a CoT. The only religion which has any effect on trade is Reformed's 10% Trade Efficiency modifier as far as I recall.

Yes, but for example, it is "impossible" for me to get Muslim countries to voluntarily join a trade league. So I am wondering if there is a penalty as well for getting deals with heretical religions.

Provinces tend to trade in same-religion CoTs, all else being relatively equal. For owned provinces connected by land to your CoT with full mercantile this effect can be pretty monstrous-Pacific coast provinces trading through Crimea instead of any of the 3-5 Muslim (same religion even) or Chinese CoTs that are closer for example.

Well, most muslims probably don't have trade range to your CoT, meaning they won't join your trade league. In addition, you probably have bad relations with them.

You can't force religion on someone from another religious group. And the Ottomans will only stay in your league for 5 years anyway, they will leave as soon as the truce ends since they most likely don't like you.

My plan for the Ottomans (and other big powers with CoT's) is to carve them up, get the small players into my trade league, and leave the CoT in Thrace isolated.

Haha. Sorry. I must have been drunk or something when I read Orthodox, perhaps my brain was auto tuned to Ottomans when it comes to war against Venice. :p
