I am thinking it would be a good way to add some flavor to trading other than sending your merchant to the best node and then you are done.

I was thinking you could spend say...500 diplo points within a trade node and then be given the option of connecting that node to another adjacent node. There should probably be some kind of restriction on how far the nodes can be from eachother to prevent Peru--> Lubeck node direct connections.

This would be great for many reasons.

1) Great Powers are more likely to have to diplo points to spend on these node connections but other nations can still benefit from them.
2) Makes Trade idea group much more important and rewarding.
3) More control over where trade goes

This may be too late for the upcoming expansion WoN, but perhaps a patch or just a mod would be great.

Thoughts?
