Trade Agreements without Convoys

I've been playing Persia at the suggestion of another thread. I see that other countries can initiate trades with me even though I don't have convoys. Is there is a disadvantage for me in this type of trade?

Also, are escorts required for trade?

They can trade if they have a land connection with you I believe, or if they are simply giving you goods... Otherwise they shouldnt be able to. Escorts arent required unless you are at war at which case they usefull against convoy raiding missions on you.

Are we talking about Hoi2, Hoi2-Doomsday or Hoi2-Armageddon here ?
Or maybe one of the Armageddon spin-offs ?

Okay I misunderstood convoys, they are not needed for trade. And I'm playing Doomsday. But answer me this: I have noticed that other countries are constantly trying to trade goods to me that I don't need. It's very annoying. Is there something larger at work here? Should I be considering these trades even though it does not appear that I need them?

Tell me this. I have HOI2 and DD. Is there a CORE mod still available for these? If not can you recommend some mods? I also have HOI3 and I see there have been some trade AI mods. But I want to stay with HOI2 for now.
