Trackball Mouse: How do I Zoom!

There doesn't seem to be any buttons on the interface to zoom, and there's no keyboard buttons to zoom, and I checked in the Manual and there was nothing about Zoom... well to be exact, it says "If your mouse has a scroll-wheel- blah blah blah" and then moves on to the next chapter without then presenting any alternative to "If your mouse has a scroll-wheel."

I feel quite glum.

Yes, and the page-up page down, and "z" and "x" and "a" ans "s" and shift with all thos things and ctrl with all those things and shift and ctrl with all those things and Home and End and Insert and Delete and a whole bunch of other things.

same problem. Game breaking. Luckily have roommates mouse.


EDIT: "Not game breaking" -> "Game Breaking" Try playing the 4 months without zooming in/out and see how fun it is.

Yea, I've always played HOI on a laptop, so as of right now it's pretty much unplayable because I can't zoom.

Glad I didn't preorder yet.

Buy a mouse. I bought one from Best Buy for $10. Problem solved.

Apart from laptop owners, alot of track-ball users use this as they might suffer from corpal tunnel, arthritis or other dexterity issues that mean a scroll-wheel mouse is not an option. I would appreciate it if there was less of the breezy assumption that everybody can use a scroll-wheel mouse.

Happily I use a track-ball out of prefference, and I preffer to not get the hand-ache a scroll-wheel gives me.

99,8% of the mice and laptops on the market today has a scroll..
Stop the whine and spend the few bucks on a mouse thats not pre 1995

I wondered this when I first installed the game on a laptop and you are quite right the game is unplayable, good thing I have a computer with scroll-wheel; but it is a rather stupid feature not to implement didn't EU3 have a button for zoom?

It is true that most new trackballs have a scroll like any other mouse.

BUT

I do believe a keyboard shortcut would be appreciated by most users.

really odd oversight indeed. lets have a look at the game files. most of them are quite plainly read- and modable. see if theres a way to bind keys to it.

edit: a quick cursory look shows nothing of the kind.. that is unsettling. i have faith our swedish overlords will fix this though.

Laptops do have a "wheel". Try the right edge of your trackpad. I can zoom perfectly fine with my laptop.

Granted, a key shortcut might be a nice addition.

also i have NO IDEA how somebody plays these guys with laptops touchpad. Its so unprecise and slow that you'll have to play at very slow and mause puch to do stuff, unplayable for multiplayer really.

Yes my laptop also has a "wheel" on the right edge of the trackpad.
Most new laptops has that, it's simple and very effective =)

I'll be frank, the lack of any zoom without the mouse wheel is basically a gamebreaker.

To all of those of you saying "WELL JUST GET A MOUSE WITH A WHEEL": I already have a mouse. It's very comfortable, because the wheel is located in the middle and thus it's very nice to use - no need for that clawgrip crap.

Yet, it doesn't have a scroll. I'd rather not have to buy a new, almost certainly inferior for my purposes, mouse just because Paradox didn't feel like putting a zoom button in.
