Total freeze on an iMac

Hello,

Although I bought the game soon after its release, I have just recently started to play it. Problem: after a few gaming years, the game completely freezes, leaving me with the sole option to switch off the computer and reboot!

What scares me is that it happened with Europa Universalis IV as well.

For information, I play on a recent iMac with a 3 To fusion drive (I wonder if it is that sort of configuration that generates an issue?).

I don't get this problem in either game.

I assume you are on 10.8.5 ?

I don't have the iMac with me right now, but I think I have a similar configuration to yours (except that my screen size is 27").

No, I have decided to remain on 10.8.4 because I read somewhere that other players had issues due to the OS update. Do you think it would be more stable with the update?

These games worked fine for me under 10.8.4 also. However these updates are how Apple deliver video driver fixes, so I know of no reason not to do it - we had one report of EU4 not playing on 10.8.5 but the reporter never followed up, and I did not find the same issue.

The fact you get it with both games is concerning, it may point to an issue with the machine. Can you try exiting the Steam client and just running the launchers ck2game.app or EuropaUniversalisIV.app ?

You should also keep track of your machine's temperatures, there are numerous free apps out there to tell you that.

Stupid question: I cannot seem to find any launcher on my computer. The only way for me to start one of the games is to go through Steam it seems...

The sticky FILE LOCATIONS thread above describes where the code directory is; on 10.8 Apple have hidden it somewhat.

I cannot locate CrusaderKings2.app. The Steam folder is empty! (although I have several games running on Steam)

I've just done it again to confirm, it's in /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/crusader kings ii/. Hit cmd-shift-G and type in ~/Library/ and go down that path, both CrusaderKings2.app and ck2.app (I got that name wrong before) will be there.
