I just hope the update is out before i have to go back to school and confront all the work I haven't done.

Unlikely I'm afraid, I'm getting crashes on the maps after Reapers Due and my other work is pretty hectic atm too so will probably be a couple of weeks before I get any proper face time with this I'm afraid :(

I'm in sixth form in the UK, where the time you go back seems to depend on which college you go to.

Wondering if there are any map modders that can help?

I'm getting a crash on game start - only relevant thing I can see is:

[gfx_dx9.cpp:1453]: managed

This is something I saw briefly earlier on in the map gen dev, but somehow fixed / it went away, and now since reaper's due it seems to happen with every generated map. Any suggestions? I've found google results of people reporting this error accompanying a CTD, but never an explanation of what's causing it or how it was fixed. though it seems so, I don't even know for sure that this is what's causing the CTD and if its not then there are sadly no clues at all.

Hey ! I can't help you, i'm just bumping to thank you for your tool, it's really great !
The only bad point I can think of right now is that the dynasties don't split (so 300 people from a same dynasty as an average), having all landed members who are non-close kin creating their own cadet dynasty would be a nice addition. This might have been brought up many times before, i'm sorry i haven't read all the pages...

Anyway, your tool is a really nice addition to the game ! Good luck with it.

Thanks! Good news is I've just tracked the issue down to that dastardly silk road! Due to Reaper's Due there was a new map dependent file defining the silk road that was screwing things up and causing the crash. Still get that vertices error but it seems benign.

Still plenty to do before it's releasable and as I said before time is scarce for me lately but the main issue holding me at a standstill has been resolved!

Will look into improvements to the history generation once I've got the map gen fixed up :)

Pretty much the only main problem to stop me releasing is a weird bug with my ships being unable to move between sea provinces, or between ports and sea provinces. I have sea zones set up. Really odd.

Check adjacencies. There might be something up.

In vanilla, though there are no adjacencies listed in adjacencies.csv for sea provinces that seem to work completely fine, from what I can see they only seem to be for connecting close islands, portage, across rivers and stuff where provinces.bmp does not have their pixels adjacent but you want the game to treat them as being. Do I really need an adjacency for every single sea province on my map when the land ones are all handled automatically by provinces.bmp? Because this doesn't appear to be the case with vanilla.

Here's the first experimental version with full map generation! Yay!

Don't be expecting everything to work perfectly, there may be crashes or bugs, but it's good enough for people to play about with. :)

How to create a map:
  • Load tool.
  • Click 'Map Generator' button.
  • Click 'Generate Landmass' until you find a landmass you want to use.
  • Click 'Generate Full'
  • Select a directory to put the map into (this is a seperate process to creating the history generation mod itself, so the map can be reused for numerous generations, or used separately to generate maps for use in development of fantasy mods etc)
  • Wait 10-15 minutes (sorry, will try speed it up but its difficult, it's doing a LOT)
  • Once the map preview turns into a colour terrain map, we're done.
  • For safety it may be a wise idea to restart the tool in case there are any bugs in history generation in the same session as map gen.
  • Select the map's directory in Alternate Map Mod box of Configuration tab.
  • Generate an alternate history as usual.
Known issues
  • Occasionally the results of map generation crash on load, am trying to track down but in meantime just generate a new map and make sure to restart the tool between generations
  • Potential for gameplay crashes so keep your autosaves regular.
  • Ports need rotating to face the right direction.
  • No straits created at this time between small islands / islands close to mainland
  • Occasionally some of the provinces may be a bit oddly shaped / small.
  • No generation options for map. Just click 'Generate Landmass' until you find one you like.
  • No rivers yet
  • Mountains need some work, they don't cut province borders or block movement between them.

Hm odd, is your main Configuration settings CK2 dir set up properly so you see the world map? In the code it's looking for 'GameDir/map/definition.csv' and that same code works everywhere else so I'm confused as to why it wouldn't be working for that particular file.

Can you click 'more detail' and paste the contents in here so I can see where exactly it's failing?

So now getting ready to load it up in game!

Cool! You need to generate a history for the new map too first btw in case you missed the instructions

Nope it's a known bug I'm looking into:

Known issues
  • Occasionally the results of map generation crash on load, am trying to track down but in meantime just generate a new map and make sure to restart the tool between generations

In my tests it affects some 1 in 6 or so generations, I'm not 100% sure if its the map to blame or the history generation.
