It seems that the devs want to take the space simulator and turn into a forced politics simulator.

What the community asked for :

#1 Better ship looks

#2 Ability to move food between planets

#3 Better control of the battles so it's not a blob vs blob thing

#4 Better control over economic aspects

#5 Better diplomacy


What the devs are planing :

#1 Useless mandatory politics

#2 A seconds research tree even tough the 1st one needs work

This has to stop before the game becomes a out of touch with what the players with and what the developers promised !

I'd think it rather important actually that devs work on improving internal empire mechanics (factions, ethos) as well as expanding or adding new mechanics along those lines (traditions), which they are. Undoubtedly these are not the only things they are working on.

Presumably he means traditions. Really the mistake of this thread is the OP assuming his points are consensus points, which is hard to prove with even the most inoffensive of arguments.

One thing I definately wanted was, and still is, an in-depth empire manangement feature. Without it the game would be mindless conquest over and over.

On the contrary, I think the devs are working quite well on what the players want. Previous updates have focused heavily on fixes and implementing feedback (e.g. sectors) contrary to their initial plan for them to just add more content.

Wiz has detailed the problems in changing the blob warfare (rightfully citing the multiple FTL types as one of the issues). This clearly means they're aware of and thinking about the issue.

Also I think what you think are the issues of the community at large are mostly your own. Ship models isn't something I see demanded a lot, and it's one of the thing modders do best of all, since it requires no consideration for balance, just some dedicated 3D/model artists.

There have been many calls for more content in the internal workings of ones empire, and 1.5 looks to be a great step on that path.

Hell, I hope that in the far future we can have stuff like Cabinets for Democracies, Ruling Councils for plutocracies (and dictatorship) and Imperial Courts for Autocracies.

Although I think some of the things you've mentioned should be worked on, I disagree with the overall premise of your thread. There's a lot of 4X space games out there. If that's all I wanted I could play those. What makes this game unique is that coming from Paradox they are able to make interesting simulations of politics. That is their strength. I look forward to them continuing to capitalize on this strength and make Stellaris more politcal, not less. Also, I 100% disagree that the current tech tree doesn't work. I like it a lot and it works just fine for me.

But again, that's not to say that some of the 4X elements could not or should not be made better. I would definitely like to see less use of doomstacks. I'd would also like to see trade routes. Espionage would be nice to add.

I think that traditions aren't seem to go into best direction now.

Using influence instead of unity(seriously, why do we need another resource doing almost the same thing?) and upgrading edicts system with something similar to Hearth of Iron national focus trees would be a superior choice.
It would expand existing but lacking mechanics and such focus trees would be unique depending on your existing government and ethics(that's a lot of combinations !) as well as include any government or ethics changes during your play-trough. This way government and ethics choices would have much larger impact on your game-play than just some minor bonuses.

Even if tree would change too much during one game, influence spend on "dead" branches could slowly leach back into influence pool or tree could transition into another so we would not start with empty tree again.

How are you determining "the community's" requests? Random things you've seen asked for that you agree with? What about all the people who didn't ask because they're happy with things as they are? Don't be so full of yourself.

#1 Better ship looks
Fancier ships is pretty much the lowest item on the list of things I want out of this game- they already look quite nice, and you don't look at them very closely most of the time.

#2 Ability to move food between planets
And we already know they plan to rework food to some capacity.

#3 Better control of the battles so it's not a blob vs blob thing
I'd argue we don't need so much control over battles as a lot of re-balancing and new mechanics to prevent or discourage doomstack combat.

#4 Better control over economic aspects
Yeah, sure, that sounds nice, depending on whatever the heck you mean by such a vague bullet point.

#5 Better diplomacy
That'd be nice.

Funny, they hardly seem useless, and one would assume that more complex and better diplomacy would be a mandatory mechanic to manage...

Research is hardly the most broken thing in the game, and the new tree serves a different purpose in the grand scheme of things. Traditions also look to be another great tool for giving your empire some flavour and boosting RP potential.

This has to stop before the game becomes a out of touch with what the players with and what the developers promised !
Because you define what the players want, clearly.

Were only two Dev diaries into the next planned DLC and we're already getting out the pitchforks?!? Proper etiquette demands waiting until at least the third Dev diary before brandishing the outdated farming equipment!
i don't get what this 'second research tree' is about. have i missed something?
I assume the op is taking issue with the Traditions that was introduced in the last dev dairy.

Is there a community consensus on the tech tree/system? I've seen both praise and hate for it. I kind of think it's amazing myself. The weighted random draws do just enough to shake things up, diversify my tech choices, and give me another factor to have to strategize around on the fly without actually getting in the way in my experience. Everyone might not share that opinion, but I'd be really surprised to find out that hating the tech system was a community wide position.

It seems that the devs want to take the space simulator and turn into a forced politics simulator.

What the community asked for :

#1 Better ship looks

#2 Ability to move food between planets

#3 Better control of the battles so it's not a blob vs blob thing

#4 Better control over economic aspects

#5 Better diplomacy


What the devs are planing :

#1 Useless mandatory politics

#2 A seconds research tree even tough the 1st one needs work

This has to stop before the game becomes a out of touch with what the players with and what the developers promised !

No idea what players you mean, was there a survey?

Myself I don't care for 1, not much for 2 either and don't see what you mean with 4.


And improving internal politics was actually on the top of my wishlist.'

Also I still like the current tech tree.
