Been playing the game for some years now. Just started a new game (no mods) as Germany, 1939 scenario, highest difficulty (both)

Early 1940... France/Belgium/Holland wiped out
Mid 1940... Italy joins and by the end of 1940 push the British back to Iraq (giving us Suez)
End 1940... I conquered mainland Britain/Denmark/Norway/Yougoslavia (Roumania and Bulgaria join)
Early 1941... I conquered Spain and Portugal (including Gibraltar). Italy now controls everything from Morocco to Iraq)

I wonder, should I continue playing? I mean really... how interesting is my invasion of the ussr gonna be??? I even started constructing 'infrastructure' in the Polish provinces, just to give my troops something to do

Any suggestions?

Multiplayer. You'll have much more trouble trying to manhandle good human players.

The AI is very good at dealing with threats which are immediately clear - such as defending against an army which has been massed against their border - but they have no "forward" thinking tactical awareness or any sort of "Backup plan" in the case of amphib landings or sneak attacks, it has no awareness of why another country is invading a province, only that its invading a province and that it needs to recapture it. The AI is incapable of considering daring gambles and massive multi-front offensives.

Stop trying to beat the game. Beat yourself. A six year old can conquer the world as Bhutan, just as long as you use every bit of the game engine to your advantage. Try to actually make a challenge out of it, either by playing a mod, not using certain strategies, confining yourself to realistic numbers and tactics, not playing gamey...

Man, I'm doing something wrong. I play German in the 1936 campaign and the AI beats the crap out of me!

Remember to control your industries!
This is a STRATEGIC game, so OUTPRODUCE your opponents! -As you should be more intelligent than your opponent, you should also be able to do the tactical parts better..

Have you done the tutorials?

I've done the tutorials, I've tried easy and average difficulty levels. I do tend to concentrate on quality rather than quantity for Germany, upgrading existing units rather than building more. Some exceptions, of course, I like to have two full armies of armor of 12 divisions each, and I also make about three groups of intereceptors, tac and cas, with one of fighters. I also use one airborne with transport. I tend to ignore naval, except to build some transports in the Baltic.

Germany need's a strong Army, it sounds to me like you are wasting to much IC and time on expensive units, spread it out on the nuts and bolt's of your army, Infantry may not be sexy but without them your 24 div or ARM are useless, - you cant follow up your gains. Only upgrade after you have developed Techs and got your IC up (say mid 38 onwards until then set the slider to 0) . As Germany its preferable to develop just INT or Fighters, spend that extra Tech slot on Doc or something else. Airborne look fancy but are to expensive to justify the price. For me the best way to play as Germany is to use all your resources as economically as possible.............
even so it still should be easy
