The way I thought that it worked is if you put it on historical setting then the AI will follow the historical path in the NF tree whenever possible. But the more the player shakes things up(Soviets attacking Poland in '36 for example) the more likely the AI will switch to the more dynamic NF choices.

That's the way I hope it works, otherwise it might as well just be railroaded then it will be to easy, but perhaps raising WT like that also triggers something with the AI

Part of the draw of Paradox games (Stellaris aside :)) is the historical immersion, and if I can take the US and turn it fascist with no trouble, then it loses some of that.
As we can currently see it doesn't take all that much more than one dedicated loudmouth with no self-restraint, to get a country on fascist course. Doesn't matter if it's Italy, Germany or USA, 80 years ago or nowadays ;)

Strongly agree! I was looking forward to creating air wings and giving them historical names and following their fate.
Air wings are constantly created and deleted as you move them to/from the reserves and change airbases. Giving them names only to have them be deleted doesn't make a lot of sense.

Unfortunately, we don't know where Trump's heading, or how far he'll be able to take it given the institutions in the US at the moment. However, even Hitler took over a decade to go from agitating for Fascism to in power - so just using 1920s/30s Germany as an example, it would take longer than the timeframe available in the game to switch Germany over, if Hitler started in 1936.

Of course, I'm not saying it should be impossible, but the idea you can click through a few national focusses and in 2 years you're democratic/communist/fascist is about as sensible as expecting the US to be able to invade Iraq, install a democracy then in a couple of years it's all roses.

As long as you follow a historical route you can expect the AI to play historical with its focuses and actions with only a little bit of wiggle (and in WW2, a lot of things could have happened if nations acted differently and still plausibly so thats okay).

I don't think the OP wants it to be 'perfectly historical' (although by all means correct me if I'm wrong @rjohansen :)), but more that he wants some challenge to be able to move his country around (which I have some sympathy with). Part of the draw of Paradox games (Stellaris aside :)) is the historical immersion, and if I can take the US and turn it fascist with no trouble, then it loses some of that. Plus, more challenge tends to mean more involving gameplay, up to a point.
I agree. It should be HARD to make USA fascist, very hard. It should costs a lot of points/time to do that. In the stream they turned communists within a few months more or less.

Just watching the latest streams, it might have been mentioned on stream (chat) and I might have missed it. But since they chose historical focus, it seems a bit too easy to crazy in my opinion. I wish that going a-historical would cost a lot more or take a longer time to do.

It's perfectly ok that it is so easy if you don't choose historical setting, but historical settings should limit the crazyness a bit in my opinion and one way would make the a-historical choices cost more points/time.

It just reminds me more of a fantasy game than a WW2 game when all the strange stuff happens.

Also. The civil war in spain a bit too short... Sometimes it was short in HOI3 also, I wish you had fixed such things (balancing) with a brand new game. It should definitly last at least until 1938 in my opinion.

I think you need a historical mod, which is fine, because mods are always a core element fo every PDS game.
By default the game is not designed to your preferences. It is a ww2 sandbox rather than a ww2 history simulator. Historical mode only means that the AI choses the historical options in most cases. If the player still starts making a-historical chocices there is nothing stopping him, which is fine imo.

i do agree on how the system works here
let's say in the initial DD's they have stated that you CAN change any nations ideologies but will subsequently have to face civil wars of kind
BUT as seen in the latest WWT video @Da9L had no problem in changing France's ideology from democratic to communist
sure he made pretty clever decision in avoiding any civil war or such but isn't that what all players are going to be doing ?
it is good to try and avoid a civil war but there should not be a complete clear path " sure if i accept all these i will definitely turn my nation to communist and wont face civil war "
when you're trying to change the nations ideology which has been well established since a long time ( example USA )
even though the democratic have less percentage of support than the rest there should be a civil war
you can't just go and change a nation just like that it is truly unrealistic

NOTE: i am not against anything. i can say that i am more than satisfied with how the game looks so far but i am just hoping that they will take this in consideration and MAYBE fix this in upcoming patches or dlc's ?

There are air wings - you can't deploy "random planes" to an air region. You must create an air wing in an air base, decide how many planes and what type to use, then assign the air wing to an air region and set the mission(s).

And you can redeploy an air wing from one air base to another.

Exactly! I hate forced railroading. Example: TRP (total realism project) for HoI2. Should have been called Total Forced Railroading. Tanks were locked completely until late 1938.
A much better approach was the Historical Plausibility mod for HoI3 which wasn't complete sandbox nor railroading. It focused on plausible divergences from history which is generally the most fun and realistic approach.

If vanilla HoI4 is very sandboxy, then people still have the choice to exploit it or restrict themselves to plausible actions.

Re: scw. How does anyone think it would be possible to balance the game to make the scw last 2 years but the invasion of Poland to last 3 months.

Territorially both are similar. And the game mechanics have to be the same in both situations. I think everyone would rather see a quick fall of France and Poland than have the Spanish civil war and therefore all combat last years and years.

In the Spanish civil war incompetence, guerilla actions., a general slowness to act all contributed to the war dragging out. This is hard to account for in a game where you strategically control all units, have perfect information and units always obey commands and attack even when exhausted and under strength.

If people who were democracies could flip to facist after two or three years then why ever bother invading them in the first place in order to make them democracies?
Also, USA if fun to play as democracy because they aren't grabbing land but installing "friendly and cooperative" governments in other countries.

You can promote your own ideology in other countries. That would counter the AI trying to turn a country fascist or communist in ahistoric mode.

It should be HARD to make USA fascist, very hard. It should costs a lot of points/time to do that. In the stream they turned communists within a few months more or less.

I agree up to a point. I think it should be just a little harder to turn France red than it currently is. It should be even harder to turn the USA commie or fascist. But you wouldn't want it to be too difficult as to take much of the fun out of it. It wouldn't be very fun to spend 8 years turning the french into a fascist state. Particularly in a game that only spans 12 years. So I think it just comes down to balancing these types of things out on a per nation basis. The more plausible something is, the easier it should be to accomplish and vice-a-versa. These are things that can be easily tuned and balanced in a patch or mod.
