Well, honestly, I do not get why half-brother trough mother inherited the kingdom of Galicia, by all rights it should have gone trough patrilineal line to the uncle (king of León) of the little Jimena kingling, is that an oversight, or intended feature that makes halfbrothers trough mother inherit even though they have nothing to do with the royal house (unless the mother is from it but thats beside the point)

EDIT: A dev on discord already confirmed it will be fixed in post release.

From what I saw, the young boy who was murdered had half brothers through the mother (from a previous marriage so they were older). So when the boy inherited the throne from the father (who was not blood related to the other two boys) it did put the two half brothers in direct connection to the throne. You can make an argument about an Uncle having a stronger claim than the step brothers but I feel they would have a legitimate case for also contesting the throne.

What! No! They're not even in the same dynasty!

I disagree. I'll revolt if I were his vassals.

Devs have confirmed it's a bug which will be fixed post-release.

It's a (relatively) minor bug, but yes the bug will be there on release. The devs weren't allowed to say how long we can expect to wait for the first post-release patch to fix it.

It seems to be that the game recognises half siblings as in line to the throne as if they were full siblings, even if they are maternal half-siblings and of a different dynasty (ie shouldn't have any claim). This is an issue if your mother remarries and has a child and you don't have an heir of your own, as you'll likely get a game over screen if this child inherits.

Seems to me to be a slightly complicated issue - I assume the game checks for heirs from the current ruler, and with no children, the brother checks next. Obviously, the new heir had no connection to the actual line of succession, however, when you try to form a logic of it, it gets tricky - what if the ruler is the first one in line, and has a maternal half-sibling? What if the ruler was elected, and then changed succession to partition? If neither parent had any connection to the title, why would a half-sibling from either parent not be a valid heir? If validity of inheritance for siblings is based on if they are a child of a previous title holder, that bars siblings of rulers that are first in their line of rule from inheriting.

Basically, what I'm saying is that this is an oversight that is more complicated than it might seem at a glance.

In the VOD you can see that the succession law for the kingdom of Galicia is male preference partition aka agnatic cognatic gavelkind. In ck2, when someone has no children of their own, it defaults back to primogeniture. Given the Devs have confirmed it's bugged i'm guessing the same applies in ck3. In the scenario from the VOD, the player (uncle) should inherit the kingdom of Galicia, not the half brother.

I dont think the issue was that the half brother was heir, it was that his mother was heir at first, which should not have been possible. Since there the law was male preference, once the half brother was born, he became heir

honestly the weirdest part for me personally was that the nephew was preferred over the brother in the first place. in ck2 it would have been the brother since hes more closely related

i mean, i only really have a vague idea of how these succession laws actually work in history though so maybe its correct to go your kids > your eldest brother > his kids > the brother after him, etcetera. that kinda doesnt seem right though

A very cool feature on the matter could be if the parent - mother in this case as a regent(no idea if she was a regent in this case!) could go into the line of succession of her son, even if the title come from the dead fathers line!

This would assume a regent in some way counts as the title holder.

Honestly, that bug sounds so significant that I'd accept a release 2 weeks later if that means that this bug is fixed on release.

CK3 is, in large parts, about manipulating inheritances to your advantage, so I expect the inheritance mechanics in the game to be sound.

I agree with you. Unfortunately the guys upstairs won't see it that way, they just see lost $$$

Fingers crossed the post-release patch doesn't take too long. Would be a real shame if we have to wait weeks after the release for succession mechanics to work properly in a game about succession.

I would say it would take like a week at most, I believe Paradox stop updating a month before release for things like the game streams and they continue working on bug fixing for the first patch.

It doesn't look like a minor bug to me.

I agree with you. Unfortunately the guys upstairs won't see it that way, they just see lost $$$

Fingers crossed the post-release patch doesn't take too long. Would be a real shame if we have to wait weeks after the release for succession mechanics to work properly in a game about succession.
With a bit of luck the "will be fixed after release" is just a "will be fixed after release or sooner but I cannot promise anything so before you get angry at me for telling you that we can fix it before release and then not doing so I will just tell you that we fix it at some point."

Nah, I clearly remember a dev on Discord saying that they can't make any more changes for release because the game was already sent to 3rd party partners (id Steam, Xbox sub, etc).

It's already fixed on whatever build they are currently working on, but they can't push that build to the release because they haven't got time for the adequate QA to make sure there are no bigger issues introduced. I prefer them being overly cautious rather than taking the Stellaris approach of just bundling patches together and praying to RNG-jesus they they haven't broken more than they fixed.
