Now, all joking aside, I'd wager Erudite Explorers are legitimately pleasant, perhaps even likable neighbors if you have Materialist or neutral ethos yourself. And we've seen, from the Blorg streams, that there's lines to the effect of "you're our friends despite our ethos differences, this is why we're cool with it". (Like the pacifist penguins guessing the Blorg military is a useful peacekeeping force, or the xenophobe mushrooms admitting the Blorg aren't so bad, for aliens.)

Judging by the relationships, these purple dudes may simply dislike the player for astropolitical reasons, and are firing off barbs where they think it will hurt; I am curious to see what their lines for a spiritualist nation they otherwise like (or are abjectly terrified of offending) look like. Do they remain unbearable in a "it's strange a species as reasonable as yourself maintains such outdated beliefs" way, or bite the bullet and admit that perhaps there's something to be respected, begrudgingly, in their old allies' way of life?
