Doomdark will not have the time to finish it today.

Meanwhile, I've been helping out on the project today, and been working on some missions for various parties in the senate.

so when you get irritated that the military party wants you to start yet another war, just cause you can, then you know who to blame :eek:o

At least we can infer from this post:

- the parties can have missions of their own;
- they can force you to act the way that you consider not so beneficial for country.

There definitely should be some way to appease those brutes of military party :mad: A kind of negotiation option, perhaps ;)

We alredy knew about that missions shall vary from party to party and that weakness of being a republic is the fact that you ain't free to do what you want.

Yes, we knew about restrictions that parties impose on your decisions, but I don`t remember that it was said that party itself can force you to do some things, like declaring war.

Hm, if "party missions" mentioned = the missions you receive when party is in power, then we indeed knew it before. I thought about "party missions" as of the party inner issues that are debated in the senate :eek:o

I would just like to point out a potential problem here, since I used to study Roman/Greek history. Rome was quite proud of that they never started a war, they kept claiming they were defending themselfs up until Crassus adventure when he got jealous of Caesar. One of the points of Caesars letters home to the senate (the famous diaries) was to explain how he was defending Roman interests and allies through all of Gaul and later a short excursion to Brittania. I'm pretty sure advocating making war on someone else during the republic would be a political suicide. They were however quite creative with the reasons to defend Rome.

I know it is forbidden to speak about modern politics on this forum (I hope admins will forgive me), but how do the US present their wars? As defensive even though they "arguably" are. Same goes for the Romans. They knew they were waging offensive wars, but they would rather die than admit it. It's all about propaganda for the people. Didn't Cato advocate a total war against Carthage? "Delenda Carthago" anyone?

There is a good difference between wanting war and justifying one!
