The church never liked marriage originally, it was forbidden. Only when they realised they could not stop people getting married it was necessary for them to take control of the marriage process.

Eh, really? Sounds rather... odd. How was breeding and family supposed to be organised then?

I just married my 18 year old son (third son, minor consequence heir) off to my 39 year old sister, just for fun. Sure, she's his aunt, but I'm the duke! What I say goes! :D

Who says that power corrupts? Off with his head; no one protests in my duchy! :)

In my game I married my 83 years old king with his 19 years grand daughter.
She was in the court of the king's son (duke).
He left her pregnant in a week and a month later died. :)
Unfortunately the woman and the child died before birth.

I always marry with some girl between 16-21 and when she reaches 30-40 I type "DIE" and find a new victim*koff* wife, this also has the neat effect of giving me extra undead servants(well they do show up naturaly but I speed up the process), I am a vampire!

And is it only me or is there a really big shortage on young women? I see plenty of hags around but really few youngsters...If there were some kind of "Random female cousin in her twenties arrives" It would be alotbetter...

Quote of the day when I experimented with changing sexes on rulers and forgot to change name:

"Jon had a child with Sven"

Can a King marry his sister? His daughter? His grand-daughter? His mother?

I don't have the game yet, but I was curious. :D

Unfortunately there seems to be very little limit to the marriage issues. It's unfortunate that marriage is so simplistic in many ways... but it does make keeping the lands and claims within the family alot easier. Keeping the heir from marrying a women with terrible stats by giving him one of his neices or cousins is another bonus.

But in furtherance of your curiousity, as the King of Hungary I've gone over 150 years by having a fairly small pool of families I inter marry with most of the time. I'd imagine by this point my King and his wife (his neice) are related many times over. I keep expecting to find an inbred trait in the family, but have yet to see it.
