from my experience

its not possible to marry direct family... ie sisters, mother daughters. ( dunno if youd want to marry your grandmother though likely thats possible)
While cousin relationships seem ok( and likely occured in early middle ages) historically the church was always against anything closer than 3rd Cousins, something that irritated the hell out of most noble houses trying to keep the estates together... then again they were against multiple wives ( at the same time) and/or concubines as well... took a fair while too before both ceased to exist, at least openly, throughout most of europe. Rulers often had mistrisses ok, but it wasnt done to move her into the court and put her in the room next to yours.

In my game, it was indeed possible to marry sister / brother... I was playing as england and got a son "richard normandie" my prestige stated that I was getting a penalty for not giving him land, so I assigned him as duke of Ulster, about 10 years later I got a daughter named emma normandie and married her to richard... I was aware of it being incestuous, I just didn't really care... he was the most eligible bachelor I could find in my kingdom :D

AFAIK, muslims in CK only marry once. If the woman die, then they marry again. But not multiple wifes at once.

French kings have done both fairly routinely. In Versailles, there was a secret passageway leading directly from the King's room to his mistress' :)

Oh well, the French have always been fairly tolerant of that kind of behaviour

Unfortunately I will never know if their children become inbred as a resule of them being incestuous, since my game won't go past January 8th , it keeps crashing there :(

Maybe it crashes because your grandchild is born with 2 heads and they lynch your whole family for being Devilspawn ;)

Historically, Carlos V took his grandfather's wife as a mistress (Germana de Foix, who was 25 at the time) ;). But the former Queen be his stepmother, right?

I'd imagine that because your family tends to be more loyal to you as vassals, the temptation is to marry a lot of cousins....

Perhaps there should be a peity hit for marrying within the family. After all, the Church never DID like this...

The church never liked marriage originally, it was forbidden. Only when they realised they could not stop people getting married it was necessary for them to take control of the marriage process.

I've found that it's very easy to marry family members, although I haven't experimented with how closely related the bride and groom can be. I did marry a nice 16 year old girl with my 70+ monarch once, only to have him die a few months later (I wonder what he died from??) and then promptly married his son and sucessor to the same woman. They went on to have a long, happy life together, lol.
