Panama

Once u own the east coast the USN will have few ports from which to operate in the atlantic.

Divert a few divisions from your central front. put them on a transport.
Eat panama. which is always defended by like .. nothing.

Then put more divisions from europe (how can u not have divs in europe? what happend to the east garrisons) in more transports and land in california

If the exp force survives the USN in the pacific u will have the settings of a closing of offensive operations in the great plains. No rockies fighting .. ofc u should stop flanking the enemy to the south to let them go into the southwest plains and even let them dig in there.

If the exp force dies u will have lost nothing since u dont need to reinforce ur front as u already own a lot of the US IC and i'm sure ur pocketing abilities will make sure that any numerical superiority the americans manage to push on you will swiftly be obliterated.
Besides, how much time does it take to build a transport and a round of 10mech inf divisions?

Ofc i'm a bit overconfident in the kriegsmarine superiority since at this point in my campaigns (i start in 36 or 41) any offensive vessel christened by the USN is laying on the bottom of some ocean within 2 months.

The only time i tried a 44 with ze germans i ended up having to put all my effort in building a defensive line against the russkies.
I dint know that undermanned, newly conscripted, not experienced, low moraled german troops in '44 '45 could turn around on the USSR like that.
So i didnt even think of a counteroffensive. I just retreated to prewar lines and built a line of forts there. The only sizable action against the eastern front up to 47 was the push in the south to gein those river defence provinces.

Btw thanx for this Aar.. it has changed my view on DD which will soon be on my buy list...

And thanx for turning that blue spec into something more reasonable... like gray

Good AAR. Best I've read.

I am not surprised that canada is holding you back so much. Everyone knows Canadian soldiers are the toughest bastards on the face of the earth : )Those yanks may have better stuff, but Cunuks have the grit to hold off the German war machine! You be careful, that upcomming Canadian counter-attack might be worse than you could imagine!

The taking Panama idea suggested might be really good. It'll deny americans access to the pacific, and maybe you can drive their fleet from the atlantic sooner that way!

For now, the rapid advance south by two air-cavalry divisions had trapped most of the American army in the mid-west. It was a tenuous encirclement as neither side had many units that far west and the German lines of control were only a single province deep. The Germans had the advantage of speed in the area, but the Americans currently had more organized units. In addition the western edge of the entrapment had only a single German division for every two provinces. The German Army had to move rapidly to take care of the Americans before they broke out.

screensave957xv0.png

As the Americans spread out to face this encirclement and try to breakout, they were forced out of Ohio. Field Marshall von Kluge moved on Grand Rapids (I don't care that it says 'Great Rapids' I used to live there and the city is 'Grand Rapids') in order to cut the pocket in two for easier reduction.

screensave958hc6.png

While things generally looked bad in the south for the Americans, a single division in Tallahassee was making life miserable for 2 German divisions. Low on organization the Germans were forced to withdraw time and again. An infantry division was sent south to help. However, the goal of depriving the Americans of one of their last ports in the Atlantic was not yet in reach

screensave959zv1.png

-Hans stood near the operations table at his headquarters. He had been reassigned from his previous division to the 123rd Panzer Division. Its previous commander had taken ill and was being transported back to Europe to recover. Hans' replacement was being shipped with the reinforcements from France. He felt a bit guilty at leaving his division while it was still embroiled in such a fight with the Canadians but he had little choice. The advance into the Mid-west was seen as more important by the High Command

The 123rd Panzer Division was assigned to General von Makensen's Corps in Charleston and had been given a very important mission which Hans laid out before his commanders.

Combat Command A would take point in the lead and comprise most of the armored forces. Their orders were to advance until they met sufficient resistance to stop them and no sooner.

Combat Command B would follow behind and to the south, protecting CCA's flank. In addition this unit would be responsible for reinforcing CCA if necessary or encircling any defenders that CCA could not handle.

The division also had the Divisional Reserve and the Headquarters Company to call on if necessary as well as the integrated self-propelled artillery battalion.

"Twelve total divisions will be involved in this operation. This is an all out race gentlemen." Hans informed his commanders "If we win we will shorten the war and save many lives. I know you will all do you utmost to see that this happens."

After he dolled out the orders, the respective commanders left to organize. Major Dieter, in command of CCA was the most rushed as his command was to move out immediately. Major von Gertigen, commanding CCB, had a bit more time since his unit would be slightly behind Dieter's.

Hans looked down at the operations map. A decisive victory was in reach, if they could just make it in time……

The Americans retreated to Louisville, leaving the Germans a key chance to surround MacArthur's army. MacArthur had received reports that the 2nd and 31st infantry divisions along with the 23rd Armored division were taking up positions in southern Indiana. Realizing the danger when they showed up in Louisville instead, MacArthur sent his fastest units to secure a river crossing for his forces as well as attacking the weary German paratrooper Corps in Charleston

screensave962io0.png

While his attack forced them to retreat, the Germans beat him to southern Indiana, cutting off MacArthur and his 13 divisions. He was immediately attacked from all sides. Later he was to recall "It was the saddest day of my life. We had stopped the Germans in Ohio but there were simply too many of them and the flanked us." At one point elements of the German 4th SS Panzer Division had broken through and were attacking MacArthur's very Headquarters unit. With his Army surrounded and the Germans breaking through his lines in multiple places, he had no choice but to surrender.

In Canada, the transports arrive and immediately disgorged their cargo. Several badly needed infantry divisions were unloaded just in time to blunt a Canadian attack on the province. With the arrival of reinforcements the advance was finally re-started - not that the going was easy at all. The Canadians and their American allies made the Germans pay for every step forward they took. It would be several assaults before Monoton could be taken with enough organization left to hold it against the Allied counterattacks. However, the Canadians were weakening as their trapped army was slowly being whittled away as it was forced into a corner

screensave965rj3.png

With MacArthur's army out of the way, the Germans pounded the remaining trapped American divisions. Still the Americans still had an impressive (for them) Army within the pocket - not to mention being supplies from Detroit. There were 15 divisions including 4 armored divisions in Indiana and Illinois. A further 12 divisions including 3 armored divisions were in eastern and northern Michigan

screensave966vm7.png

But not before the Germans suffered one of their worst defeats since the summer of 1944.

General Jac: It has taken alot longer than I thought, but with the reinforcements I finally have a decisive advantage

bbcrackmonkey: Saving? Yes. Grinding to a stalemate? I think not :)

stnylan: And with it 80% of the American forces stateside are trapped

Simon-1979: More great pieces of information. Thanks!

chefportnen: Indeed! About dern time too!

Panzer6: Fortunately all the provinces I have nuked have been small ones

WhisperingDeath: Partisans? Not really - I have enough troops around to deal with them. '51 infantry makes quick use of partisans. TC? Can't remember the last time I haven't had problems with it in this game. Its around 2525/1700. Supply efficiency is around 70% for an 80 infra province (Milwakee is 80 right? Its based off whatever Infra Milwake has)

NERFGEN: Right now it seems the USN is operating out of Miami and there is this really annoying infantry division preventing me from taking the city. My ships are still repairing. And naval battles in '39-40 are a TON different than '49-'51. I didn't realize how different and it kept getting my ships sunk :(
Defensive operations in the '44 scenario? Perish the tought - advance man, advance! :)
Always glad to get rid of an offending color!

colio: Glad you like the AAR and thanks for the complements! As for Canadians, well, their time is almost here so enjoy the last remaining updates with them in it :)

Worst defeat - but in the scale of things I can't imagine it will be that terrible. I mean, not that much has gone wrong in 1944 for way of comparison.

Defeat coming up, you say. Hummmm, let's see...thinly stretched German lines accross the heartland of the US, no offense in depth, no defense (or not much of one) due to low org - not really surpised about the pending doom. However, since it IS the AI and you have a HUGE strategic advantage I am not toooo worried  ! Good luck and I'm sure it will be a fun read.
