Over the next couple of weeks, the German fleet had several successful attacks on Allied ships. Through the end of February the fleet sank 5 light cruisers, 2 destroyers and 11 transports in various small feet actions. Then on March 3rd, the fleet engaged a similar sized British fleet. While the great propaganda machine called it a victory, it was more of a draw with each side sinking a carrier

screensave765rt1.png

Granted, too many of these draws would mean defeat for the German navy since the Allies had way more ships than the Germans.

On the way back to Brest to exchange out damaged carriers and escorts, the Fleet ran into a small US carrier force. The CV USS Antietam was sunk in exchange for light damage to two German carriers. In an effort to sink the remaining two US carriers in the smallish 18 ship fleet, the Germans pursued the retreating Americans

screensave767ao8.png

And ran smack into no less than 4 Allied carrier fleets. The Kriegsmarine fought valiantly, but they were too hopelessly outnumbered. A carrier was sunk along with 2 light cruisers and a destroyer as well as heavy damage to several other ships before the Germans could retreat out of the Allied carrier's range and limp back to port.

With most of the carriers in need of repair, it was decided to send out a battleship fleet in an effort to constantly have at least one fleet at sea to harass the enemy.

In Africa, a general attack along the entire front was ordered

screensave768vj8.png

As the numbers of enemy troops were decreasing, the assaults could get boulder and more frequent. One of the largest obstacles now was how to move the large army formations over terrain that was largely untouched by human hands. Engineering Corps were stretched to the limit trying to cut new roads and ensure not only movement for the troops but adequate supply ability as well

On March 15th, the German Battleship Fleet intercepted a British fleet.

screensave769ol0.png

(also note the 25 US divisions in Belfast. No Ireland invasion for me)

While the British had three carriers with them, the Germans had 5 battleships and two of those were super-heavy battleships. In the straits the British had little ability to stand off and use their planes. When the German super-heavy battleships got in range, the British sent their escorts racing down the German's throats while their capital ships tried to escape. Two German ships were sunk, including an aging Japanese cruiser, but the British definitely got the worse of the engagement. Unfortunately, their capital ships did escape

screensave770po7.png

One of the battleships was heavily damaged though and the fleet moved back to Brest to exchange it for a heavy cruiser and 2 destroyers to replace the cruisers lost in the previous engagement. After the ships left port and had turned north, Brest came under attack by US naval aircraft. The German Battleship fleet turned south and moved to engage the attacking Americans. As their CAGs were being shot to pieces over Brest, the German Fleet moved in for the kill. They did not go unnoticed however, and the Americans sent their escorting ships to engage the Germans while their carriers beat a hasty retreat. While things did not turn out so well for the escorts, Allied capital ships once again escaped destruction

screensave772ss9.png

With several naval defeats, the Allies turned a bit more wary and for the next month or so there was only limited sparring between fleets. The Germans were happy to oblige as many of their ships likewise needed repair and replacement.

Thus, the focus turned back to Africa

screensave773lo0.png

As German troops entered South Africa. While the Allies put up a strong defense in Pretoria, there simply were not enough troops in Africa anymore to hold off the Germans

In Vietnam the Americans were not faring well either. Having resisted attacks in North Vietnam for sometime, the Americans started falling back. Eventually the 4 American divisions would be destroyed now that they were surrounded

screensave778rb3.png

As they did so, the self named 'Jungle Korps' moved into a big offensive designed to secure Vietnam as another German controlled area.

knugen_n1: I've been fighting my TC pretty much since 1944. I tried releasing some puppets (a very painful act on my part) but saw no appriciable improvement and stopped. I would likely have to release some very large puppets to make a difference and that is a color palate I am not ready for :)

Rocket-Man: Assuming they continued the Manhattan project - which brings up an interesting point - I do not believe the US starts with any nuclear reactors in the '44 scenario. Is any one able to check the '44 DD scenario right now?

I just checked, and USA starts with a level 4 reactor in Asheville. Oh and Keep up the work in the world and on the seas.

When the 4 American divisions were 'trapped' in North Vietnam and attacked, they did not surrender, they merely retreated into SIAM! A quick look at that country revealed that they were granting military access to the Allies (yet this was the first time they had really used it.) Finally, an explanation as to how supplies were moving into Moulmein and why the 'trapped' Americans and British were able to fight so hard! Well, this issue was not unnoticed by the German strategists. Siam would get their comeuppance for their traitorous ways.

Back in the Atlantic, the German carrier fleet had completed repairs and set back out to sea. It was a short trip.

screensave783og7.png

They met a large US carrier fleet off the coast of England. While the German fleet was able to sink the carrier USS Kitty Hawk and a heavy cruiser, the CV Seigfried was sunk and heavy damage was once again done to the German carrier fleet. Back to port for repairs.

The Americans shortly after mounted an attack on the Naval Fortress of Brest. In an attempt to take advantage of the de-organization of the American carriers caused by this attack, a hodgepodge German fleet set to sea to engage. It only resulted in BB Mark Brandenburg being sunk and additional damage to other ships.

screensave787tp3.png

In May (as troops were ever so slowly advancing through desert and jungle -darned low infra provinces) German Scientists completed the Hydrogen bomb. While eager to try out these cool new devices, many worried about Allied aircraft. While no match for German fighters there were still a ton of them and it only took one to bring down a bomber. German scientists turned back to their missile technology.

While early there were instances of Allied planes shooting down early variants of the V-1 rockets, guidance and speed had constantly been improved so that the V-3 was virtually un-interceptable. What if these types of missiles could be launched from Germany to the US? In 'Intercontinental Missile' if you will. There would have to be no escorting of bombers, worry about fighters and 'the bombs' never had to leave the country! The prospects were too alluring. Research was almost complete

screensave794sb4.png

The South Africans were completely over-run in May. Once the Germans realized that there were almost no troops in South Africa, it was an all out run to Cape Town. After all the hard fighting in Africa, it was almost anti-climatic that the last weeks there was no resistance to the German advance.

screensave795dj4.png

The focus in southern Africa now turned back north, up the Atlantic coast and to the interior, getting rid of the few Allied troops remaining there.

knugen_n1: Maybe, but they really aren't doing anything there right now. I am actually quite happy to let the Allies send troops to a province that can't attack me and that I won't attack. Maybe they think that I will invade Ireland.....

Ironhead 5: This war ain't over yet. I don't see no fat lady singing (unless you are a fat lady.....)

gilf: They're going to be gray, thats what they are. Harboring Allied troops - dang it thats almost as bad as the Fins!
As for invading Ireland - I could have (looking back on things and seeing how much extra time I had) but I didn't know how long my other Grand Strategy would take.

General Jac: A tad bit better. At this rate, I will control the seas in about 4 years after I simply outproduce the Allies. Makes for a boring game though. Fortunately I have other plans :)

Von Uber: Which one? I'm sure theres a 5th Avenue in Europe somehwere....

lifeless: Yeah, pretty much. That favors the Allies in the short run but me in the extreme long run

SecondReich: Be you an Allied sympathizer?!

Panzer6: Huh.....well that explains some stuff. Thanks for checking!

-Delta-: When I checked in my game it was up to level 5. Its really too bad they don't build them - would have made the air battle over the English Channel more interesting :)

With the focus pretty much on the navy and with other areas of the world, Hans, Karl and Dietrich and many other men and divisions were relocated to Nantes and Brest. With really no one to fight, everyone was getting down and jiggy wid it - really everyone was partying like it was 1999. The biggest thing that made this possible….security from the Allied transporter tech.

The design of this defense was really ingenious. A simple, pink umbrella was placed on the lawn. By now everyone knew that transporter beams were drawn to pink umbrellas (In 1948 German Leader Fritz McFritzerson von Fritzie was on a standard transporter mission when his beam was re-directed to a pink umbrella being carried by a lady in Paris. Needless to say she was quite shocked when a man fell from the sky and impaled himself on it. Additional trials were held with other colors but pink was the only one that could divert transporter beams. Later in 1948 a trial was done with a purple umbrella. The transporter at the control center didn't go anywhere but did cause a rain of about 320 purple umbrellas to rain down over the city. Fritz McFritzerson von Fritzie, having recovered from his wounds, was walking outside when a purple umbrella hit him in the head, point first. He was said to have run around in circles saying "ow…..ow…..ow….ow…." He has never used an umbrella since)

After a few attempts and several Allied leaders landing on the 'Pink Umbrella of Death' the Allies caught on and a sort of Transporter Tech Cold War happened, a MAPUD if you will (Mutually Assured Pink Umbrella Death).

The operation was finally given a go. There had been a build up for months, really since the fall of Britain and that had resulted in a serious depletion of Beer Kegs in Europe. Fortunately, Iceland, Party nation of the World, was right next door. The decision was made to relocate the party there. But, with the Germany Army really really drunk, designated drivers were needed. Enter the Kriegsmarine

While naval superiority or even parity had not been gained in the Atlantic, it was shown that the Germans could hold their own and would most likely be able to protect its transports this time.

In May, Iceland was attacked. A US carrier fleet moved to intercept the Germans but they were uninformed about the size of their opponents. They ran smack into 60 German ships, including 7 carriers and 6 battleships. Despite all the odds, the Americans gritted their teeth and pushed their attack, even as the Iwo Jima was sinking. A small group penetrated the fighter and anti-aircraft screen and struck at the landing force. A transport was sunk, but fortunately after unloading its troops.

screensave799pm6.png

The Americans were forced to retreat and Iceland was secured. Large formations of Axis fighters and bombers moved to occupy the airfield. The German navy turned south, back to Brest, to get another load of troops. This ferrying would continue until some 70 divisions were stationed on Iceland. To supply those troops over 2000 additional transports and 200 escorts were ordered. This may seem like overkill but Iceland was not the final destination for the 70 divisions. So many escorts were needed because it was well known that when the Kriesgmarine reached its eventual goal, the Americans would fight like mad to sink them and the Kriegsmarine could not be relied on to ensure safe arrival of materials and supplies.

At the end of May, the new Inter Continental Ballistic Missile was complete and several were ordered for testing purposes

screensave800tm4.png

While German forces continued the slow subjugation of Africa and Vietnam, the German War-machine was turning out nothing but ships and planes.
The last of the Allies were finally cornered in southern Vietnam and disposed of. Garrison forces were dispersed and the German Army prepared for the invasion of Siam. Their harboring of Allied troops could not be tolerated - yet it would be a while before German forces were prepared for their attack. The jungle fighting had taken a toll on them and they needed rest and replacements.

screensave803lc2.png

While troops were being ferried to Iceland, the German Battleship fleet also left port to serve as another distraction for the Allies and to help keep their navies from engaging the transport fleet.

In mid-June, they engaged a sizeable transport fleet off of Belfast and sunk the entire unescorted fleet.

screensave804qt4.png

In other news, yet another expansion to the nuclear facility in Breslau was complete. Also, the forces in Iceland had reached 89 divisions and 23 air wings.

screensave805id0.png

screensave806ns7.png

The Advanced Super-Heavy Battleship Mecklenburg was deployed along with two new battle cruisers and a light cruiser.

screensave807qd1.png

The German navy continued to grow…..

DeathDemon: I can't believe you looked that closly!

General Jac: First time I've spend that much time/effort/troop in Africa in a looooooong time (since HOI 1 I think)
