So that's the standard question in the weeks leading up to a new expansion, but this one is a bit different. I haven't done much investigation (sorry) so I thought I'd be lazy and simply ask.

I've got a 769 Viking game that has made it to the very early 11th Century. Good times so far.

Most expansions make me want to start over. I've only finished CK2 a half dozen or so times. But this one seems like it might fit in seamlessly with ongoing games considering the subject matter. While there were PLENTY of huge and deadly plagues prior to 1000 AD, it seems like adding the this DLC at 1000 might not be improper, since most of the famous big boys of the plagues were post-1000AD.

So anywayz... thoughts?

I would not bet on savegame compatibility. Continue your game with 2.5. When the new patch arrives start new. You still have 2 weeks to go and after that you can easy revert to 2.5

I'm not big on reverting. I'll probably either continue or just find something else to play in the meantime... which is usually what happens in the weeks leading up to new DLC.

I was just hoping, due to the nature of the changes, that saved-game compatibility might be something they could assure us of ahead of time.

Oh well, we'll see.

I always stop playing and abandon old games when a substantial new DLC comes around, dunno why. Feels neater maybe? Anyway, I'd go with that.

I did revert after HL arrived and I wanted to finish my Indian campaign were I was able to get some hard achievements. This time I wait with a new campaign till the dust settles and we know if the patch/DLC is nice.

I'm playing a game now that I started in 1066, & its currently around 1250. I am planning on going all the way to 1453. I should be able to make it by the time TRD comes out. If not I will probably just abandon it & start a new one.

One of the big things you omitted in your post is whether you're playing with mods or not. If you are, I can tell you this upcoming DLC is going to break them, hard. The major reason is due to the inclusion of the various masks, which will undoubtedly result in a new portrait_properties.txt file with revised property slots. The portrait_properties file governs several mods, including AGoT, CKII+, and portrait mods in general.

The inclusion of several new traits will also conflict with your save, because when new traits are introduced in an outdated save-file, it jumbles around all the old traits.

I would be absolutely shocked if you can safely continue an old save. Plan on starting over.

Oh it's a vanilla Ironman game. Very good point about the traits, hadn't remembered/considered/thought of that!

A'ight, it'll be a standard starting over then. Thanks everyone!
