Glad to see Jennings in the picture, the perennial candidate actually won (well, not really) but at least got the office. I think the Spanish will yield in a matter of time- a lightning campaign to Madrid would probably really quicken things up.

William Jennings Bryan was on Longstreet's ticket right? I'd consider that a 'win'. :)

Nice work on the Phillipines.

It would indeed I bet, there is an event for the Treaty of Paris to fire near 1894, so Im trying to sieze as much as I can before that fires 's so I have a better chance of being able to take all the spainish territories.

Yep, Jennings was Longsteets man for the public and VP. Now the phillipines would be much better if I could just disloduge thouse troops from Manilla.

~ The little fish turned big Fish ~
Jennings continued…

Many would consider the southern Missouri man an outsider because of his home state didn’t succede when the Confederacy first origonated, but the main reason was because of his aggressive stance agenst thouse who were born into power. Being born into a middle classed family he was a ardent crusader for the little man, and Missouri having a bit of northern influence, he was apposed to the current state the ‘freedmen’ were in and became a supporter of Booker T. Washington who was put out of mind when the war began.

A new surge of support and praise came rushing in when news reached of the states of the victories in the Phillipines. As far as the public knew the Spanish were easily being deffeated and hiding in the jungles, when nearly the opposite was happening. Attacks from gurrillas continued to plauge the occupants and the stiff resistance in Manilla was holding up the compete conquest of the Phillipines.

Careful manipulation of the reports kept the public on the goverments side without question while allies in France and England were meeting with C.S.A. diplomates and Spanish diplomates on decideing on a peace treat, which was finaly, under heavy pressure from the trio, was ratified and offered to the Confederacy on January 16th, 1894.

compensatespainkh1.png

The Treaty of Paris was signed by both sides and the transfer of all the Spanish colonial holdings were transferred to the Confederacy. While a great wave of joy and celebration spread over the home front, the Phillipines simply became a thron, transferred from Spains side to the Confederacies. The occupants there had believed the Confederacy would give them immediate freedom, and didn’t accept that they had other plans as keeping the resource rich island for their own colonial empire. The people had simply traded one overloard for another,

Cuba on the other had was a different story. The whole pretense of invading the island was to liberate it from the Spanish who were treating the people horribly, the worlds eyes were now on the ‘righteous’ Confederates. A new plan was drawn up by Jennings to guide the Cubans into eventual independence and seting up a pupet regiem in the soon to be new island nation.

Slowly things began going back to normal, or some degree of normal. The Philipines became a topic of news once word got out of the troubles there. Rebellions continiously sprung up and the casualties were mounting up on both sides. Meanwhile all whole slew of things began happening in the main states.

Booker T. began his ‘Black Tide’ campain, which called for ‘freedom march’s’ across the states, all in which were non-violant and peaceful, the same couldn’t be said for whites who stood in their way.

bookertnj3.png

The KKK, who had been dormant for awhile on the political scene, began showing up where ever the ‘freedom marchs’ came to and on several occasions errupted into full out fights. President Bryan responded to this by issuing diplomatic and right’s sanctions on the Klan. All of a sudden it would become very dangerous for one to be a Klansmen as federal agents began rounding up there leaders and sending them off to jail.

This all of cource conflicted with the already opposed white Aristocrates, but to Jennings it didn’t really matter with the support of commoners, who outnumbered the aristocrates eight to two. A constant tide of violance, in and out, of the states would wash over the nation, be it rebellions in the Phillipines or riots in the nation.

Jennings began a fast paced, people based plan of action. The average Confederate citizen did not own plantations that employed large numbers of feedmen, there were thouse noble families that did, but the averege joe worked their own individual farms with hired help or in the factories, and could care less if freedmen had more rights.
Most didn’t like the idea of them holding office, important positions or deciding who lead the nation, but basic freedom didn’t bother the common folk as much, given the feel of superiority the white populace had over its black populace.

Putting the will of aritocrates at the back of his mind, Jennings began doing things to please the middle and lower class’s who made up the majority of the voters, lowering taxes and providing benefits for the supporters. With there support behind him there was little anyone could do to hault his goals.

Glad to see that the remaining parts (aside from Spanish Morocco and any Spanish African territories) are now part of the CSA! Shame you had to pay £50,000, mind. :(

Anyway, I hope you don't invade Spain but you could intervene in Spain's African affairs or create some kind of "Great War" later on.....? That'd be fun and gradually convert it to Doomsday.

Keep it realistic, though. That is why is making this AAR even more fun. You could try to involve yourself with China when/if the Boxer Rebellion comes.

Also, nice work with Jennings! Certainly is going to have an impact on the future, though.....

I want to keep this as realistic as possible, which is why I don't go around trying to conquer the U.S., Mexico and the Latin American minors, or colonize Africa. The Phillipines are an acception, like the U.S. did in real life, the Confederacy is just nibbling at imperialism at this time.

As for a Great War, there will be one, its scripted in the mod where the ArchDuke bits the dust and the chain reaction should go off to create somthing similar, but I may save and reload as some nations to recreate the alliance system.

Please say you're joking.

You're definitely not alone, none of my friends knew who he was either. I was slightly insulted when I found out a "professional" wrestler was named after the guy.

As for the realistic aspect of the aar, I think you doing a great job. But a fair number of people from the Southern states wanted to annex all of Mexico. I think it's OK to take a few more bites out of Mexico. The setup for such a conflict should be reasonable, but I don't think it would be absurd.

I think the alliance system would have to be different, particularly given the changes in relationships the powers have had as a consequence of the CSA's existence. Jettison the Phillipines ASAP, they're going to be more profitable as a puppet.

I would try it, after all I do have my eye on that little strip in the West next to California, but the U.S. has a habbit of gauranteeing there independence and they finaly got a large military than I do, as well as industry, so Im not into ticking them off after puting effort into smoothing relations with them over.

I would deffinatly like to see the scenario from Harry Turtledove's novels play out with the U.S. on the German side, would be pretty interesting, but currently the French and Brits are geting along fine and the Ottomans, Austrians and Germans are geting along good as well so I guess we will have to wait until it gets to the WW1 date to see how it works out.

As for the Phillipines, can't agree with you more, all I get is revolt after revolt after revolt, and I'm tired of having to leave the garrison over there.

~ The Puppet Master ~

From Longstreet's death in 91 to 98 President Bryan was one of the busiest, most active president’s the Confederacy had ever seen, and the youngest as well. His ‘March Across the Confederacy’ campaign brought him all across the nation, speaking to the people and constantly campaigning for a better, more just Confederacy. His support of Booker T. also brought him to many places, as he quite frequently attended his speech’s and help co-ordinate his efforts.

cubacrestql7.jpg

On March 12th, 1897 he made a journey across the Gulf to visit Cuba for the official release of the nation, personally meeting with the new Cuban government. The new government of Cuba officially declared its independence from the Confederacy that day, of course the new government was a puppet one and the Cubans would have to answer to the Confederate Congress if need be, but for now it freed up need to keep a garrison of soldiers there and made the people of Cuba much happier.

This would be the beginning of, what many would come to call it, the Confederacies invisible Empire, which would consist of pupating those they came into conflict with, and forced to annex in order to subdue the threat.

The home front would be a bit more, traumatic, as his support of Booker T. and his campaign for advancing the well being of the black populace began putting him at odds with many in power. Several member of Congress held large plantations, and the idea that the head of the government was fighting to educate there workers and give them the ability to see that they had a choice, didn’t sit well the plantation owners.

A whole new war would open up behind the scenes as political battle between the rich man and the little man would begin. Many times the prospect of inventing a reason to impeach Bryan came up between those who resented his liberal views, but was defeated each time because of his growing network of friends and the loyalty of the public. The establishment of several educational schools for the children of Freedmen were set up, and frequently under attack by a resentful number of aristocrats and members of the dieing KKK who began gaining more followers once more after a long period of decline.

Come the end of the next years Jennings had planted roots that would not easily be dug out as the populace demanded “Six more years!” from Jennings. This of course was ageist Confederate constitution, which dictated that no one could hold the presidential office but once, and that was the normal six year term, yet the cry continued for six more, prosperous years from the Confederate President.

President Bryan came over the CBN (Confederate Broadcasting Network) and addressed the nation on November 18th, 1898 that he would not seek to change the Constitution and groundwork that there nation was founded upon and therefore would be attempting to run for another six years as President of the Confederate States of America. He would though seek to obtain his former position as Vice President on the Democratic Ticket with Adlai E. Stevenson.

Adlai E. Stevenson
1899 – 1905

203pxadlaiewingstevensodu9.jpg

The new duo of Adlai E. Stevenson and his running mate, former president William Jennings Bryan took the Confederacy by storm. The pole numbers stayed the same as in the previous elections, sixty percent of the population voted Democrat while the remaining thirty present voted Whig, the election results were as expected, and the Democrats retained control over the country.

One of the first things done was the instillation of a new puppet government in the Philippines, which had been a major thorn in the nations side after taking it from the Spanish a few years earlier. This would start Adlai’s term on a good note, though most would agree that the man and former post master knew little of politics and the political mastermind of Jennings was behind most of the actions to take place in his term.

A grand welcome home celebration was thrown for the Army of Texas as they arrived back from the Philippines. Meanwhile the President from Kentucky began where Jennings left off, attempting to stem the tide of bloodshed and violence that had erupted between the black and white populace.

It had taken years of campaigning and fighting, but Finlay Congress agreed to sit down and speak with Booker T. and his supporters. On February 4th, 1990 the Confederate Congress agreed to lift the Jim Crow Law’s and allow the black populace, if they meet certain requirements, realistic requirements, to own land, business and settle their own communities in the west were there was still a lot unsettled.

February 4th would be one of those days held highly among the Negro population in Dixie, one that would remember as the first major step and victory on the way to becoming full citizen’s with equal rights. However improbable that dream was, they were on there way to knocking down the barriers that stood in their way.

Bryan is definitely dominating the landscape, the Whigs seem moribund in comparison.

~ Industry and Socialists? ~

A new era of peace fell over the Confederacy as the nation withdrew from much of the events of the outside world and focused once again on its economy. For years now the nation was slipping from importance on the world stage, mainly because of its lack of industrial power. While the nations military was defiantly something to be not to be ignored by any would-be attacker, the capacity the nation had to sustain a ‘modern’ war was running slim.

Over the recent year or two the Russians Finlay were able to gain an upper hand on the industrial stage and put the Confederacy in 8th place on the world stage, not because of the great Russian military or because of their prestige among other nations, but because of the ever more increasing and important industrial capabilities.

These new events led to President Stevenson to, along with backup from Jennings, force the Democratic Party to change their economic policies to allow the federal state to intervene in the industrial growth of the Nation, which means allowing them to shut down or expand many existing factories if need be. This would hopefully allow a faster growth of the nations industry, which would begin setting them on the road to obtaining their former spot on the world stage.

Besides the drama working inside the Democrat’s, with the policy changes, a new stir among some of the poorer people of the nation was beginning. From overseas came a popular figurehead of the new socialist idea’s that had been working its way around Europe for some time now, but just gaining some thunder in the America’s. Traveling from state to state a man named Valmer Rasput began preaching the socialist belief to the lower groups of society, which began to worry the nations government.

Not long after many small revolts would spring up, just as he left the nation under pressure from the federal government. These revolts were aimed at forcing the high class society down to its knees and create an equality for all. Many of these became violent and state troops were called to put an end to them, causing the loss of life among many of the instigators.

While things on the home front were being secured and reforms were being implemented to expand the Confederate Economy things over in Europe and Africa were looking more problematic. The Great Race for Africa had begun years earlier and the Great Powers of Europe were tearing into the continent, taking large bites out of it to fill there imperialistic hunger. Many in the C.S. and the U.S. could see the prospect’s for war piling up, one that could eventually pull the honor bound C.S.A. into one of Britain’s conflicts.

I know, it sucks, my capatalists don't want to build much besides glass factories (most of my few factories) and railroads so I'm struggling to try and catch up or at least keep from droping furthur than 8th Great Power

It'd be interested if these Liberal reforms of Jennings do take a backstep and either a Socialist riot breaks out or some form of Fascist or Nationalist government takes power. But still, also it is interesting to see the CSA go Liberal and treat it's black populace with respect.

I definately look forward to seeing how this "Great War" turns out......

It would be interesting if I would allow it, though im not to keen on allowing that kind of reform to happen. I absolutly hate the word facist, I mean REALLY despise the name, which is why when playing as a facist nation I automaticly make it change into a Nat. Socialist or Pat. Autocrate, much nicer words.

The current goverment is Conservitive, but Jennings is one of the first real 'Man of the People' types who wants to all the citizens treated justly, and while it may put him at odds with the people in power, with the nations majority behind him, it doesn't really matter.

I can't wait to the "Great War" starts either, right now its kind of boring, lots of peace and Im running out of Presidents until the time hits of Wilson to take up the reins.

Lord Telcius said:
What!! You going to have Wilson be president. Your funeral.:( Anyway, is John "Black Jack" Pershing(sp?) on the confederate or union side in this senario?

Sure, why not? I always like Wilson and he was a good U.S. President, no reason he wouldn't be a good C.S. President. As for Pershing, since he was born in Missouri he will be on the side of the good ol' C.S. of A.

~ James Hoge Tyler ~
1906 – 1912

180pxjameshogetylerbk2.jpg

The 1906 election once again would be a victory for the Democratic Party and another loss for the Whigs who, since there failure to gain control at the nations birth, were never able to gain above thirty forty percent of the nations votes in the poles. The 1906 election would also see the end of what his opponents would call, the Jennings dictatorship. After holding the office of president for six years and vice president for twelve, Jennings was forced to take a lower office where his influence would be minimum in Congress or Senate.

The new President, James Hoge Tyler on the other hand, took Jennings as a personal adviser to help make his term as prosperous as possible, seeing that Jennings held one of the most successful and prosperous terms in the nations history. Almost immediately the industrialization plans were picked up and surprisingly began showing real influence among the capitalists who saw government intervention as a challenge and competition.

“The Great Industrial Boom” began under President Tyler as non-productive factories were shut down, new ones were opened and more and more people began turning to the more prosperous jobs as factory workers. This boom became one of the high points of the term, while the suppression of the new socialist movement became on of the low points, causing much un wanted violence among the populace.

Aside from the few bursts of violence and infighting the Confederacy began a new era of peace, economic and diplomatic prosperity. A new program initiated by the U.S. and the C.S., together, called the “Reunion Act” which aimed at repairing and restoring the families that were torn apart by the War of Succession all those years ago.

This marked one the highest point of C.S. – U.S. co-operation and friendship. The two nations were not friends, not in the least bit, but were beginning to finally acknowledge that they would have to share the Continent and that neither one was going anywhere.

50thindependencedayrv9.png

President Tyler’s president was one of the most peaceful, and un-eventful, presidencies in the countries history, which is why not many can remember him, unlike Jennings or Davis who were national heroes. Besides that his presidency saw one of the largest celebrations country had ever seen, its 50th anniversary.

From Fort Sumter to Atlanta to Richmond to Lexington and all the way to Phoenix in the West massive celebrations were thrown. Fire works lit up the night sky, parades were organized all over the nation and the “The Great March” was made by the Army of Northern Virginia, showing the finest military machine the Confederacy had to offer, starting in Richmond and heading west to Phoenix before returning to Manassas.

The most notable event was the “Sea of Candles” where thousands of people sat candles outside the graves of there loved ones that died in the past two wars with the United States, some said the entire State of Virginia looked like it was burning from the candle light.
