In official videos & also one of Sky Stormes diary reviews it mentions that citizens either drive to work or use public transport if they haven't got a car/drive? Does anyone know what criteria sets out firstly whether a citizen is able to drive & secondly have a car. Is it related to their social status (wealth/level of learning/where they live etc) or is it just random. Perhaps they need a parking space or garage as they are all real? It just seems strange that only some of them have a vehicle.

I hope it's not a social status determination... I've certainly known middle class people living in large cities who choose not to own cars just because it's not convenient. I hope it's purely a function of convenience... if the cim has everything they need within easy access on public transit and/or quick walking distance, then they may choose to not own a car. To me, that's realistic, and that's what I'm hoping to have in my cities...

It might be related to age. Some citizens might be too young (or old) to drive.
Some families made up of two or more citizens may only have one car for the household and both adults share it.
That's normal- not "strange".

After posting this I just wonder if it is due to being able to park vehicle like I said above. As everyone in the game is real, I presume the vehicle has to be parked somewhere & if there isn't a garage or parking space nearby does that mean they don't have one. What about public garages, has anyone seen any?

On an unrelated point I wonder if peoples cars get vandalised in game. It would be funny to see someone driving a car that has been spray painted with graffiti.

I was living in France a few years ago at the time of the nightly car burnings:

Wouldn't that be nice... if they brought in the day/night cycle... you wake up to 30 of your cars smouldering.

Thinking more on it, what would be strange is if cims had more than one car. Maybe a car to go to work, and a pickup to haul their RV or boat around. Or a car and a motorcycle. Or an classic car for weekend jaunts and a newer one for work. Maybe a car collector? There's just as many reasons not every cims has (or needs) a car as there are for multi-vehicle cims.
It's not worth worrying about.

I think they said. Every adult or elderly in the city has a car. Weather he uses it or not depends on the availability of public transport and which type of transport is faster. In their choice is no cost or comfort factor included.
Every car is attached to a person, and they don't share.

I must admit I thought only some of them had cars, but it could easily have changed since then. It still doesn't answer though where they all put their cars. The suburban ones will put theirs in their drives/garages or parked on the road, but what about people who live in tower blocks & skyscrapers, where do theirs go.

Thinking of how cars disappear when there is a traffic jam, I think if we don't provide parking at the destinations, cars will simply vanish upon arrival and reappear upon departure, as if there was somewhere invisible to park.

Simple answer, just follow a person for 30 minutes. While following if his/her car disappears then good luck finding them again until they get back home (who knows when).

On the reddit AMA, the developers said that every lot has parking attached to it, either visible (surface parking) or invisible (suburban driveway/garage or apartment/highrise underground). Cims will use it when they go to the lot, and if it is full, they'll park on the street.

CIMs decide their route to their destination before leaving then it's locked in (to reduce CPU requirements) - the CIM takes into account public transport verses car and congestion on the route. If taking a car, will then take a less congested route - though of course it may become congested after the CIM departure but it will not change route after that.

If citizens have no job then they can't afford cars, but cities need a good public transport system to grow faster.

Yes but in that particular statement, they were referring to the actual parking prop, which can take the form of those painted parking bays, or be invisible where painted parking bays would look wrong. I didn't understand them to be referring to implied parking on a lot that had not been placed by the lot creator.

I would guess that all CO-made lots will have either visible or invisible parking props for the sake of smooth play - what remains to be seen is what happens when we make our own lots and deliberately refrain from placing parking slots.
