I don’t want to build a huge tank army as Italy. my only mod is expert AI.

So I’ve tried a few scenarios. I always take Austria and Hungary immediately then either:
  1. Take Netherlands if I plan to go after Germany first OR
  2. take Belgium if I plan to take the Allies first

i can take Germany relatively straightforward (it’s a bruising fight but they capitulate). I can also take France in Both cases (either going Germany first or Allies first). But I ALWAYS bog down in Britain. Whether it’s post Germany or not, I always bog down halfway in Britain, with or without the Americans joining.

Ive tried to Spam 20w with support ART, tried 40w with support ART, 40w with line art (not SP Art), 40w with HTD (space marines but I still often get pierced) and even 40w with line ART and HTD. I always bog down halfway in Britain into a stalemate. I always have green air (but am not using CAS or TAC)

Any tips?

Yes I know using +5 tanks and +5 CAS and +5 TAC and SPART and rocket launchers and sure why Not build nukes and jet fighter 2 (lol) but it’s 1940 I don’t have the tech or industry for all that (I think).

Thanks in advance :) appreciate your thoughts

I think cas spam is your best bet. Pure infantry can fight forever because if their org, so cas has a lot of time to put in the work. Idk if this will work with the mod though since it makes the ai divisions weirdly built.

Well, you don't have to "spam" CAS, but building some should help. It doesn't quire more then a single factory or so on CAS to have a fair number by 1940. The main thing though is if you are using the space marine tactic, then if you are regularily pierced then you need to boost you units armor in some way. Easiest way is to use exp to modify your tanks armor but if that is not enough then you need to add more tanks (those can be SPART) to the units. Even if that gets you fewer break through units so will they work better as if you are pierced then you are mostly wasting all the effort that went into including the tank.

I think the ideal cost effective 40 width attack unit have just enough armor to not be pierced most of the time, a few (4 or so) ART or SPART and INF for the rest. Support companies are also better for large units like the Field Hospital, Logistics, Maintainace makes a lot of diffrence. For larger units so are those better then support art, at etc and those are better put in as line units if needed.

But I can understand why you are having trouble. UK is a totally diffrent fight then mainland Europe as it's much tighter. In the mainland so can you get around hard enemies and manage that way. In UK you need your units to be able to break through no matter what.

For tough battles, there are several options:

1. Use tanks
2. Get air superiority and use CAS
3. Encircle
4. Cut off/ reduce their supply

One of these always works (I also use Expert AI). If you don't want to use tanks or planes, try taking some more ports and encircle them.

With the current build of the game infantry divisions really are not designed for pushing alone, unless you decide to really diversify your divisions (like 20 width basic troops and “breakthrough” infantry divisions with like 6 artillery companies, which I simply have not seen done by anyone if I’m honest with you).

really, if you’re mainly going for an offensive infantry army then you need CAS; your infantry will keep the battle going while your cas does the damage.

Get some tanks or parachute a few of them on the enemy VP. Normal Infantry grind is not really useful for breakthrough, otherwise at least mix in some cavalry, to exploit breakthroughs.

To push with infantry, in my opinion, the first rule after running into a line that does not easily break, is to force the enemy to reposition. If you are temporarily stuck at the narrow waist of Britain, then @Panthera_Tigris has an excellent suggestion. Move your attack elsewhere through new naval invasions behind the enemy lines. The British will be forced to reposition units on the single front to the multiple fronts you open up; giving you more opportunities to gain local advantages.
