Tried all of that stuff many times, tried restarting the utility, worshipping kittens to Satan etc, but none of that seems to have any effect on the date.

Actually it is the same comma problem again, if you look to "early research penalty" there is a comma there not a decimal point, change to a decimal point and the problem solves itself.

Fantastic work on the tool Executor!

You have to "sacrifice" the kittens, not just "worship" them....

Damn, thats gotta be the mistake I'm making. Tried both worshipping Satan and sacrificing the kittens, didn't work.

I did however manually replace the comma with a point, and it magically works! :D

Looks nice, well done. Probably not going to use it myself though. I think this is particularly useful for those who attempt world conquest, since they have a greater need for the best fine tuning research can have than the occasional player.

This utility is already really handy and can only improve with testing and polishing. Goes to show what can be achieved when you take NHL hockey away and Canadians have to find something else to do!:)

Some suggestions for improving this already great utility:

1) Change that "Early research penalty" default , into a . (for all us poor sods that use non-English character sets, I think this is the cause of the problem)
2) Add a feature to reset the current date to that displayed in the "Finished:" window. That way if you want to see how long it takes to research 2 techs in a row you don't have to manually copy the date between the two runs.
3) Add a "reset current date to scenario start" button, and have one for the most played campaigns (like the GC you get 1 Jan 39, the 39 scenario has 1 Sep 39 etc)

Keep up the good work.

Did you know Canadians actually have hockey players on the back of their currency bills? Just found that out when I was up in Quebec last week

Anyway, back on topic: I just downloaded it and it works perfect for me. I've already used it several times to see what teams are best for each research project and I love it!

Very nice tool, but I believe I discovered a bug.

Out of curiosity I wanted to see how long it would take Germany to research the nuclear techs. The thing I noticed was that with 0 nuclear facilities built Heisenberg was the fastest tech team, as one would expect, but once I added say 5 or 6 nuclear facilities all of a sudden Konrad Zuse became much faster than Heisenberg even though Zuse only had a fraction of the required areas of expertise that Heisenberg had. And the difference in their base skill levels is just 1. So is this WAD or a bug?

*Sigh!* this just further proves the point that the whole research system should have an option to go on automatic with a few player inputs.

Having to go figure the math behing selecting the optimum team is trivial and makes me feel like a trained monkey. Only, with this utility, I'll be a somewhat faster, trained monkey. :)

I am not familiar with the exact fields of Heisenberg and Zuse, but it could be something similar with what i did.
After you have enought Rocket sites/Reactors, disregard any rockets/nuclear fields. You are looking at a (with 4 sites) +20 skill level in those relevant techs. The 1 point additional knowledge is relatively unimportant. It might be that Zuse has 1 area of expertise that Heisenberg doesn't have, but that is required for a certain tech. The malus of that 1 point less in 3 or 4 research phases is more than compensated by the bonus of the extra expertise area.

For example, as japan with a level 6 reactor, for nuclear propulsion (Nuc, Nuc, Electronics, propulsion, seamanship? (red anchor symbol) IIRC) one can chose to take a nuclear scientist to macht the two nukes.
One can also take one the other teams to match the electronics and the propulsion. This gives quite a boost in research speed.

Yup. If the proggie turns up Zuse as best, then it's way off.

When you build a couple of reactors, IG Farben should come floating to the top of the list of a couple of nuke techs, while Heissenberg remains the top man for the remainder. ;) The best you can get with Zuse is second place for 'Faculty of nuclear research'.

Could you be more specific? Which tech were you researching? What year was it? Difficulty?

Since Zuse built his computer for doing the calculations for his masters thesis, why shouldn't he have been able to speed up the nuclear research to stop these annoying bombers over Berlin? ;)

Ok, he was a civil engineer and very probably lacking the necessary knowledge+experience.

BTW, HOI2 surely doesn't take into account, that the german scientists, which had to develop atomic bombs, did intentionally delay the research to keep Hitler from getting such a toy into his hands.

Maybe I should have added that I checked it with the official beta research speed calculator. :)

the date thing works perfectly now. Thank you for a great tool being able to decide who is best at the different techs and how long they are going to take to develop.
