Yes, I believe that is exactly how it works in reality.

Nevertheless great work, and cheers :)

I work at the R&D section of a company and the veterans keep telling me that if you want the true estimate of the duration of a project take the projected duration and multiply it by PI. Apparently it never fails.

Very nice utility!

Some things don't seem to work yet though, like adjusting the current date to before or after the historic date has no effect on research time, and the computer techs don't have any effect even if I tick all the boxes. Do these actually work or am I just doing something wrong?

Very nice work, time for some mod to sticky this one imo :) .

Only the following has me really worried:
Is this WAD or a bug, anyway if ministers do not give a research bonus it time to replace my Resource Industrialist with the Administrative Genius.
sounds like a relatively substantial bug to me

I like that it remembers settings when re-opened. You should have included an "About" box to give yourself credit. ;)
I got tired of reselecting Germany everytime I started the program so I decided to save the settings. Plus I figured that people would be using the program as they played through a campaign, so most of the time they'd want info for the same country.

Probably an unimplemented feature. The original HoI had scores of them so it's not surprising there are a few in HoI2 too.

If it ever gains the ability to read the relevant data from a savegame, it'll go to an even higher level--but first things first, and I'm grateful for what I've got.
I thought about including that, but it'd be horribly, horribly complicated. I'd have to load up info for all the countries, their current research, any blueprints, nuclear and rocket sites, etc.

The historical date will only have an impact on how long it takes to research if the start year is earlier than the historical year. Examples:
Researching a 1939 tech in 1936
Researching same tech starting in 1937
Researching same tech starting in 1938

When you tick off a computer tech in the list, the Research Modifier field should automatically increase to reflect it. Examples:
No computer techs selected
First selected
Second selected as well
Isn't that happening for you?

ministers don't have any effect on research

I ran a quick test, using US in 36 and 39, results

With Industrial minister 10% to research
Basic Oil researched by Texaco 28 April 36
without minister
Basic Oil researched by Texaco 28 April 36

With Armor COS 5% to armor research
Improved Light Tank researched by FORD 12 Jan 40
without minister
Improved Light Tank researched by FORD 12 Jan 40

I couldn't find a peactime country with the Security minister 5% to research, in a saved game (US42) removing him does not change the research modifier listed in the Tech Overview screen, which I would expect it to since he is supposed to affect all research.

So, until someone says otherwise I'm going to assume that ministers don't have any effect on research, which really changes things. Great job on this, I never would have thought to look to see if the ministers were actually doing there job!

Adjusting the date has no effect at any time, what so ever. Also, ticking/unticking the computers does change the research modifier, but this has no effect on research it seems.

I'm not certain why it's not working for you? Could you post a screenshot? Anybody else experiencing this? When I change the date or check off a computer tech, the research estimate is updated.

Weird thing: when I start the utility it displays the Research Modifier with a point (.) like 1.00, but when I tick one of the boxes it changes to a comma (,) like 1,05. When I manually adjust this back to a point (1.05) it does display a change in research time. However changing the date seems to not have any effect still.

So has anybody sent in a bug report to paradox about the minister problem? I would but i wouldnt have hard evidence to support my argument.

Hmm, it could be related to language settings. It should definitely be a decimal point rather than a comma. Download this http://site.voila.fr/hoifiles35/hoi2ra.zip and replace the original EXE. Tell me if that resolves the comma problem.

I'm not certain why changing the date isn't working for you.

Thanks, the computer techs now work for me, as does difficulty setting (none of these worked before). Still no go on the date though

When you select, for instance, 1939 from the Year dropdown list, the time estimate doesn't change, correct? Have you tried typing in a year instead?

How about after changing the year, change to a different tech and then select the previous one again. Does it now show the proper estimate, or is still ignoring the date?

Tried all of that stuff many times, tried restarting the utility, worshipping kittens to Satan etc, but none of that seems to have any effect on the date.
