I've never played a huge, TRULY SPRAWLING nation like Russia before. Any advice for me? I do plan on activating Communism early, for my own purposes.
Got it, focus on Education techs and spending, little to no European intervention? The biggest thing is to raise your literacy - you will need this to compete industrially.
Also, don't pick fights with Europe. Focus your energy on taking out central Asia and maybe even China, and let the Prussians and Austrians do their thing.
Russia is rather easy to play.
As said above, the most important things are:
(1) Increase your literacy: It is vital to increase your tech points and improve pop promotion. Get at least 3% to 3.5% clergymen to speed up LIT-growth.
(2) Avoid land wars in Europe: You can mobilize a lot of troops, but if you really snatch any piece of Prussian, Austrian or Ottoman lands, you will have to fight a lot of follow-up wars to keep them. This will force you to invest a lot of RP into your military, vastly reducing the efficiency of your RGOs and factories.
(3) There is no need to expand: Russia has a large pop pool that can grow up to 50 million and more during late game. With all this pop you can easily dominate the world economy.
(4) Colonize Sibiria: Don't forget to colonize Sibiria, esp. the coastal part in the northwest, or you will see a Prussian or Swedish colony over there.
(5) Keep Alaska if you can: Alaska has a lot of precious metal provinces and can grow to a decent size (500k+) during the game. Keep it if you can. However, ENG and USA have a tendency to start wars over that territory. Place a decent army there and stall the wars as long as possible. If you notice you can't fend them off, better surrender the state before waging a 10-year long war - it is really not worth the cost for you.
(6) Stick to your tech school as long as you can: If you can afford it, stick to the culture school. You will need those culture techs - and the discount is a great way to compensate for your low early game RP. If you end up at a war enact the decision that gives you the special Russian Academy, but I prefer to keep the original tech school if possible.
My usual starting strategy:
(I) Freedom of Trade
(II) Idealism
(III) Ideological Thought
(IV) Medicine
Does the USSR get more accepted cultures than the Russian empire? The Russian empire is an East Slavic Orthodox state but in real life the USSR was a multicultural state that included groups like the Armenians and Kazakhs as "accepted cultures". I'm curious about this because I know in game Germany as "The German Empire" only gets North and South German as accepted cultures but when Germany has the Crown from the Gutter it seems to get Ashkenazi as an accepted culture as well.
there is a Special russian tech School?

Don't go communist, the clickfest will make you want to suicide
I do that anyway,Don't go communist, the clickfest will make you want to suicide
No, but the Communist Party would have a Full Citizenship policy that would help you to Russify your lands. USSR is not a tag shift. It's just a government/flag change.
Control, click factory expand.
Every factory expands.
No more tears.
