Hi Guys just recently got this game played quite a few of the previous paradox games so picked up the very basics ok. I started the 1066 stamford bridge scenario as Harold Godwinson and I really seem to not be able to get out of this.

I start and can beat either of the enemies but if I confront straight away I don't have the strength left to beat the other and I loose, I have married into HRE family dragged them into the war they send 10k troops over but liberate one province (normally York but not always) and just sit there while the war plays out. On the one occasion that I have managed (with a lot of luck, Harold Hadrada died) to beat off both invasions as soon as I disbanded levies to build them back up all my vassals revolted and I lost, any help or tips would be appreciated.

You should start as one of the irish counts/dukes instead. Those are better for learning the tricks of the game.

Nah, I like as im sure some others do to play something relevant to me which is England, if I cant get a saxon England I will have to play as Duke William and make an "English" England.

If you have hre send 10K stack to help you you won. What you need is to provide leadership for that stack. Just send any small army to province that stack sit. It willl attach to your stack and follow it when ever you lead. (work 9 out of 10 times). The only time ally deattach stack is if they need it for some other war.

In that case you should start stocking up gold so you can hand it out as gifts to your vassals, give them honorary titles and landed titles if you can afford building baronies, cities and such. Getting a high diplomacy chancellor should also help.

A bit of a cheap trick to defeating both pretenders to the throne is to start the game a few days later. Harald will dissappear and the english troops will be unharmed and sufficient to race to the south and beat William.

I don't mind cheap tricks, the start isn't correct anyway, Vikingr army should be smaller, and some Vikingr joined Harolds army to face William. As long as I don't cheat (frustration nearly made me do the cash cheat!) I can live with an exploit.
