Once i had the lustful trait and the seduction focus but no sons. So i decided to seduce every woman on sight to sire a bastard so i could legitimise him since my wife (which was the neighbouring duchess) had given me only daughters and she was approaching 40. I needed a son to inherit both duchies.

However i got only bastard daughters (seriously? Even now?). Anyway my wife got pregnant miraculously and gave birth to a boy at last.

But this isnt the end of the story. My infidelities and my bastards enraged my wife so i ended up murdered by a conspiracy with my wife being part of it and a 1 yo ruler under a regency.

Gender laws are on the left side, not the right with the succession types. As far as I know agnatic-cognatic is always available unless you're Muslim.

You do need to be at peace, have ruled for ten years, and have all your vassals like you, yes. You mentioned your third ruler had reigned for 25 years by the time he died so I figured you'd probably have been able to do it if you'd been working for it, but it can take a concerted effort to get to that state, especially when it comes to vassal opinions.

Just checked there is no available gender laws, as a tribal catholic,

From the film "A Man for All Seasons", detailing the last years of Thomas More, chancellor of King Henry VIII of England:

Cardinal Wolsey: "The King wants a son. What are you going to do about it?"

Thomas More: "I'm sure that His Majesty needs no advice from me about what to do about it."

No. No. No. If you are new dont sleep with everyone around. That will piss off your wife - 100 and the lady's husband and lead to plots. If you go seduction focus on your wife.

What also plays a part is your wife's opinion. The more you like each other the more likely you are to have kids. Gifts, honorary titles etc to raise her opinion. Unless she is an heiress or brings a great alliance to the table go for young women who have a very good opinion of you.

Now if you do want to father bastards, pick one woman - preferably unmarried and focus on her. DO NOT pick let our love grow. Always go Vini Vedi Vecci. Then you just keep repeating seduce her. It gets easier every time. This increases your chance of impregnating her.

What you want to avoid is having a mix of bastards and trueborn because that can be trouble later on. If you fathered sons with multiple women, they might plot to kill the other children so their child inherits.

There are also factors that effect fertility - disease, orientation, traits like chaste etc. If you want to cheat use the ~ command and enter charinfo . Now when you hover, characters fertility is displayed. If you are 50 and your wife is 10 then its an issue withe her and she should be replaced.

9/10 if you arent having kids its either a fertility issue or the spouse has a negative opinion of you. They just dont want to sleep with a cruel, maimed homosexual with gonorrhea
