Tips for having children

Just a started a game and after my 3rd leader he died with no heir after conquering half of island. 3rd leader lasted 25 years while the 2 before lasted less than 10. My last leader had 4 daughters, I tried using seduction for a kid, concubine etc but to no avail I died at under 40 with no heir and the game was over. Just a bit annoying for a few hours gameplay to be over.

Any tips and tricks for how you manage having children?

Use the 'have a son' ambition increases fertility. It's mostly luck though.
And remember to spread your dynasty out. Marry some daughters maternally to get more dynasty members, and marry any other family members as well.. That way, even if you die heirless, you still have dynasty members to take over.

Family focus + get heir ambition + lustful ruler/wife/concubine! If this failes go for seduction!

Seduction focus->seduce anyone, who's able to produce kids (has positive fertility, lustful trait etc.), the more you succesfully seduce, the more kids you'll get. Also marry with lustful lady (best age is 16-30) and take 3 concubines.

You take your "thing" and put it inside your wife's "thing". Cant miss...

So after that failure I mentioned I started from a save a few years earlier and basically I only had the choice of elective gravelkind or tanistry, no agnatic-cognatic available and I couldn't change my succession laws as I hadn't ruled for 10 years, wars etc

Gender laws are on the left side, not the right with the succession types. As far as I know agnatic-cognatic is always available unless you're Muslim.

You do need to be at peace, have ruled for ten years, and have all your vassals like you, yes. You mentioned your third ruler had reigned for 25 years by the time he died so I figured you'd probably have been able to do it if you'd been working for it, but it can take a concerted effort to get to that state, especially when it comes to vassal opinions.

Lustful trait, strong trait, agile trait, fertile trait, Hedonist trait, Family or Seduction focus. And above all, screw often and every chance you get. Infidelity is encouraged especially as a man even though your wife will absolutely hate you but if you do the seduce, knock 'em up and legitimize thing - you got a better chance the more women you seduce. Sow those wild oats !

And speaking of "wild oats" try not to have the Horse trait for god's sake (-50% fertility !)

Note: Some of the traits mentioned above are only found in HIP

With WoL, this ambition doesn't exist. Replacement is "Groom an Heir." Fertility boost. Fulfilled when he's an adult.

With WoL, two focuses that help you with having children are Family and Seduction. With the latter, it's most effective to acknowledge all of them and then legitimize only the best one upon adulthood.
