Why not just go all the way and play as the Duke of Iceland then?

They have now! Probably they were thinking about the poor duke of iceland when they implemented the feature. Well at least we don't have a count of GreenlandI tried that once. The character would commit suicide if Paradox had given me the option.

You know, that's not a bad idea. Greenland was colonized by Vikings and viking settlements did exist in North America. Maybe just include Greenland and Newfoundland to have some small colonization options. They have now! Probably they were thinking about the poor duke of iceland when they implemented the feature. Or... is it possible that they are working on a Greenlandic Empire DLC?! LET'S GO MAKE A THREAD ABOUT IT!!11!1!1!1!!!!!!1!1!11!1!1111!1!1!1!!!1!!!!!1!1!1!11!!!!
Haha, I hear you. It's a bit more interesting to start as Vestisland (SP?) but eventually you will have to become Duke and either take over Ireland or just sit and chill. I had my longest game as Iceland and near the end I was so bored I converted all my family and vassals to Mongolian culture just for the lulz. I'll wager Iceland isn't the best for Altaic horses thougho
Oh well, that would at least make the SI legit...up to a point at least. You know, that's not a bad idea. Greenland was colonized by Vikings and viking settlements did exist in North America. Maybe just include Greenland and Newfoundland to have some small colonization options.
Actually... The steppe-ponies of the Mongols would fit nicely on Iceland. They're a larger breed than the local variant, but about as hardy, and used to an even worse climate.
Amen to that. Give us more counties and the Icelandic commonwealth. :laugh:Death by geyser eruption! A fate worse than death! Ok, we need an Icelandic flavour DLC post haste...
Good point, I hadn't thought of that. I was mostly thinking about the horsearcher style of warfare in Iceland.

That might be somewhat more difficult, what with the not entirely flat terrain, yeah![]()
Well... Since a Geyser spews out superheated water and steam, you'd have your flesh scalded from your bones. That does sound pretty bad. I'm guessing eyeballs would pop from overheating as well. Not to mention heat-searing of the lungs, throat and stomach. Thanks for that mental image![]()

I've always fancied a crack at Iceland... but I think I'll wait until pagans get the official go ahead for playability. An Asatru Iceland conquering the various isles and invading Europe from the cold reaches of the northern seas just seems like it'd be too awesome of a game.
I did briefly have a game as Count Sigfus af Oddi of Vestisland back when CKII launched, but we won the war for England, I got awarded the Duchy of York, all of Harald's sons died (one fighting the Normans, another fighting Lapps), then the Duke of Iceland died, then I got elected to the Kingdom of Norway. Can't say I was thrilled to suddenly rise so quickly, and it killed the fun I was having.
No, try it. Playing as Earl Gofraid is actually quite easy. Within 25 years at the most you'll be guaranteed to own three counties, be a vassal of the Duke of the Isles, BUT also outnumber him in provinces, wealth, prestige, and levies. You'll be able to create the Duchy of Clydesdale and easily conquer Ireland from there. As a Scottish vassal, while conquering Ireland, you can slowly take over much of Scotland (at least Lothian, come on). When you become King of Ireland you're ridiculously close to usurping Scotland. Then you're strong enough to take on England with a few mercenaries (and I took Northumberland early on from a revolting Duke of Northumberland, phew that was easy), and from there on it's a cakewalk to forming Britannia.
Make sure to educate your vassals' heirs to be Irish, and institute elective succession, and you're all set to have barely any factions, and no revolts.
I recommend Croatia. It's very easy, good territory with clean borders, marry yourself into alliances with Hungary and the HRE and you're good to go. Make Zadar or Split your cpaital, expand into Serbia and Duklja if you want. I haven't played as Croatia since LOR though, it may be that Byzantium gives you trouble now... Never happened before.
