I started a new campaign with the Cradle of Civilization expansion with the Timurids. My intention was to form Persia, so after consolidating the realm I switched culture to Persian only to find out the decision to form Persia is nowhere to be found. Is this WAD, with Timurids excluded from forming Persia now?

This is assuming you don't first drift and form something else that can form Persia I'd imagine.

Aside from going for the Persia achievement I never understood the draw, Mughals are so much stronger with the massed permanent claim spam and fantastic NIs.

Shia Persia has pretty good stacked combat ideas, it feels a bit like playing middle eastern Prussia, but with cavalry.

I've done it a couple of times in friendly MP games, and that has mostly been for flavour. Mughals are too strong, it's expected and boring. Persia is rare exactly because pulling it off is (at least was) much harder and gives relatively less rewards.

Not sure if that makes sense but there you have it :)

Ajam can form it, you can dogpile Timmy while it's vassal declare independence and take the needed provinces to form Persia
Also you are the same school as the Ottomans, so you can use them against the Mamluks

And you can easily save Yazd for a dhimmi revolt, if you want to go that route, once you don't need the Ottos anymore (which is quite hard and luck dependent as one of the minors, even though Zoroastrian Mazandaran with it's Sassanid flag would be even cooler)

I was doing a test run for a friendly MP, where I will be playing Timmy. As I have gone the Mughal route many times before, I wanted to shake things up by going Persia especially to play with the new Feudal theocracy mechanisms.
