Timing the Great Purge

Hey all,

So the thread title says it all. Is there an optimum time to initiate the Great Purge, seeing as how it takes double the time (or more?) of regular NFs, and then gives the USSR some negative effects for a while after.

When should I be looking to initiate it, if I'm hoping to have the Red Army ready to defend against Germany when they come knocking?

I take it at the end of 1936, after the industrial focuses

You have time for 10 70-days focuses (11 if you super lucky) before choose GP. I usually pick it as my 9th focus. You remove all penalties with Lessons of War (after Winter War in historical mode), so there's no need to hurry.
