Is it just me or the speed of the time on speed 2 seems a bit fast? When i think of HOI3 the second speed is a lot slower and i think i liked it more like that.

When you like to micro everything and you have more that one front, it can get a bit hard to control everything. I think i saw some encirclements that i really dont want to happen in my game.

Think of it this way: speed one on paradox games has always been more or less useless (unless you're in multiplayer). Since no one played on it, they just made speed 2 the new speed one, so now speed 5 can go up to what would now be speed 6. It makes spectator games easier too.

I would hardly call speed 1 useless. Now, while I don't play on speed 1 on EU4 single player, I use it quite often on EU4 multiplayer, because anything faster would cause us to be out of sync.

I agree. Speed 2 should be slower. I guess once I get used to the game, I'll be playing at speed two but pausing whenever something needs attention.

Usually if people want to micro in HoI III they play on speed 1 to be honest. I personaly play on speed 3 or 4 and pause alot, which of course in multiplayer wouldnt work. I never really used speed 2 at all. Speed 2 doesnt seem to be too fast to me in order to do stuff. If alot of stuff is going on, like the whole world battleing it out, i would slow it down to speed 1 anyway.

In Ep. 5 of WWW they actually played at speed 1 for a while and it seemed to be perfect for alot of microing in mp, without being too slow.

In my oppinion Speed 1 and 2 are good as they are for mp and speed 3 and 4 are good for SP.

From 1936 to 1939 I often played speed 2-4, but when war started, I often played at speed 1. Also for MP, we start at Speed 2-3 and went down to speed 1 after the war starts

I remember the fastest speed as depending on hardware and game time.
never played Paradox games in multiplayer, but i will try with HOI4 :D
In singleplayer games I go speed 5 or 0, good they use the space button
in the newer games :)

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the speed settings are adjustable/modable in any other paradox games?

Would be good if you can just configure each setting to exactly how you want it but i suppose some of it is affected by how fast your processor is

I would rather play with time running more slowly than constant stop and go, and in MP time necessarily must roll on.

Will the actual speeds be adjustable in settings or is it "hard coded" so we are stuck with it.

I found watching the WWW much more useful with the view speed is slowed to half (though 2/3 speed would be better-can Youtube or Twitch be set for that?) since the mousework is no longer a blur and the dialogue is simply somewhat slow. The frenetic activity slows to simply fast-paced - one thing that would help is an easy-to-follow mouse pointer in some high-contrast color, and maybe mouse trails, for the viewing audience.

This is not to say I wouldn't want to try blitz games for a change after a few hundred hours of play, just as I play speed chess on occasion, but it is a different game without time to work through the splendid depth of detail in the game.

I usually play on speed two or three when at war, but I'm pausing very frequently whenever something important comes up - not really something you can do in multiplayer.

It'd be nice to see a good HOI4 player demonstrate the game in single-player with full control over the time settings, with a focus on "efficient" play where nothing is wasted.

Maybe instead of 5 preset speed settings, they could just have a marked slider that goes from incredibly slow (1 in game hour per 10 seconds?) to extremely fast (1 ingame month within ~5 seconds). They can even put this feature in, in addition to the prebuilt settings (have the prebuilt ones be shown on the pause button, with the slider coming up on right clicking?)

That way, players could determine their own comfort speed, from the never pause time takers to the spectators who are just in it for the ride.

Just wanted to point out that the fastest speed of Paradox games (5) never was set in stone, but is basically "as fast as you computer can handle". If you have a slow computer it's same as speed 4, but if you have a fast one or is playing an old game it can be 20 times faster.

My type of playing is exactly the same. Speed 2 at war with pausing when needed. But for what i saw at WWW i think its very hard to play at speed 2 if you want to control everything. I really don't want to lose divisions because the time is ticking too fast and you didn't saw an encirclement on your army you can't solve.

I measured Speed 1 of Hoi4 by stop watch and Hoi3

Roughly Hoi 4 is twice as fast as Hoi 3, even on speed one !!

I really hope they slow the speed setting down before release. Or have it adjustable via a master settings.

edited: also Hoi4's faster speed is similar to EU IV and CK. But, because there is so much more happing on the map and so many more units they should not comparable games in speed setting imo.

Just wanted to point out that the fastest speed of Paradox games (5) never was set in stone, but is basically "as fast as you computer can handle". If you have a slow computer it's same as speed 4, but if you have a fast one or is playing an old game it can be 20 times faster.
Hmm...

Maybe there should be a "skip to end button" in the pause menu? It will turn off graphics temporarily and just make the game run all calculations necessary until 1948, and then show you the ending map.

It will certainly be entertaining :p
