I really lacked strong AI countries in EU III and this OE seems quite strong and with some fixes would be awesome :)
OE was bigger than that in history.

Right. One hint that EUIV may have represented it badly is the complete collapse of the political balance immediately upon unpausing. The Pope seems to have lost Rome in 1448. :p

Really one of the main attractions of playing in Italy should be the ability to experience the famous Renaissance politics, not merely chaotic anarchy as happens in EU games. In what ways do you think you'd be able to improve the situation with a mod? Sadly there are only so many mechanics to work with...

Sending "Italian Ambitions" the way of the dodo and fixing "Our Claims to Northern Italy" would help - in all the games we saw, Austria's first move is "Claims", then pwn Venice. They should be substituted by two specific missions:

- "Our Claims on Naples" for Aragon - CB to PU or annex Naples, etc etc. Aragon had had a good claim on Naples for two centuries, and control had ebbed and flowed between Aragonese, French and Neapolitan dynasties.
- "The Milanese Inheritance" for France - needs a Royal Marriage with Milan, gives CB and so on. At that point, the Italian Wars DHE can trigger as desired. That's it.

one game, and your saying that?

LOL you need at least 20 sims like that to get a pattern, and more to be more precise

One game? we have seen france getting destroyed 2/2 times so far, either france is way to weak or their ai cant handle the country

I don't see how that is an issue. The Ottoman Empire in that game was pretty big and just because it didnt have all the territories it had historically it doesnt mean it need balancing. There were other annoying things though, but they have already been said.

Btw, what's with that map? The Portuguese Empire being a part of Spain? The Iberian Union was very similar to the Kalmar Union, and Portugal was still a sovereign state.

The same map, which you can find here, lists the whole Scandinavia as 'Denmark' during the Kalmar Union, so they consistent with that. That are other more obvious problems with the map, such as having Burgundy as part of France at 1444.

How did that big Netherlands gain independency? I didn't see rebels and war.

It happened in 1568, which in real life was the beginning of the Eighty Years War against Spain. So I suspect it's a dynamic historical event. Possibly Burgundy let them go pretty easily, although right after gaining independence the Netherlands did get invaded. This probably caused the collapse of Burgundy in the late-game, the Netherlands including Flanders is simply a powerhouse!

It would be really cool to see a screenshot of the colonies at the end of this game!

The map only takes into account the de jure situation. A number holdings ruled by the Dukes of Burgundy were de jure part of the Kingdom of France, other holdings were part of the Holy Roman Empire, which is also a single state on that map. A similar situation is the case for the French minors such as Orleans or Bearn.

after watching a couple more times, I see why France fell. If you see, in the early 1500s France was very big, but then they ended up being attacked by both Castille AND Burgundy, thus destroying France. France is not weak... just outnumbered

Something I noticed was that in the winter various rivers appeared to freeze, that got me thinking, will this affect the river crossing penalty? Will your armies not suffer it or will it be lessened by the ability to simply walk across?

Could this be a demonstration of the Coalition mechanic the devs mentioned?

I stopped reading comments after page 2, so this reply is based on just those.

The hate here for the the results of this is ridiculous. I would liken your discontent to someone walking up and giving you a volkswagon, only for you to sneer at them that it wasn't a bmw. I can't believe Johan showed up to make qualifications for the AI here- it did beautifully.

Improvements over EU3:

No Bohemian or Austrian snake into the Urals.
No GB and Portugal holding chunks of Scandinavia.
No GB holding pieces of Italy, while they blissfully ignore Corwall.
Spain formed.
Castille didn't conquer half of N. Africa and tack on 4 provinces in Anatolia.
Netherlands actually formed.
The HRE blobbed slightly, but it resisted the wholesale person union spam of Austria and Bohemia.
The Ottomans are actually competent in the hands of the AI.

The AI seems capable of playing a strong game for 300 years. This will make human vs AI games interesting for longer than the first 50-100 years. This is everything I had hoped it would be- great stuff Paradox!

I am one of the few that doesn't see hardly any difference that what a game of fully patched EU3 would result in. I think people are inventing things in their minds because it is new and shiny. You could have shown me a map shot at the end and you wouldn't be able to tell. The only real difference I see is that the horde mechanics have hopefully been altered for the better since the Ottomans either knew how to deal with them or their horde neighbors were not as belligerent. The hordes where my only growing complaint, so if they have fixed that up for the better, I am happy and would never expect or want the game to mimic history to the letter. It is a game, not a book.
