Just wondering...how is it that every country I have played so far in IC (Germany, Italy, and the UK) all seem to get units through events that excede their current technology levels?

Do they have time travel technology later in the game that they are able to send advanced units back in time to themselves? And if so, why not just send alien death ray beams back in time to the 1500s and just take over the entire world?

(I know this is ridiculously stretching the point, but one truly has to wonder where this advanced technology - at least relative to the country receiving it - is coming from).

Almost all countries start with units they can not build yet...is it any surprise that they are given units that they can not build yet? Look at ships and ship tech at the start of the game...look at AA attachments and weither the tech is there to build them...AT attachments...I can go on for awhile....

The problem is this...the tech trees prohits you being able to research the techs need to produce the units historically at the proper time...not only do you have to research the techs...you also need the production time to build these units in that time...it would be nice if the given units were given according to the techs you know...or maybe delayed the units granted to you research the tech needed. I calculated...using GER's tech teams it would take about 7 years using 1 tech slot to get Special Materials which is the key tech to get for almost anything above basic units. Now if you look at a minors tech teams you might as well double that.

So in theory the tech tree is good...but in reality...its a nightmare for most countries beside say the USA and GER

The giving of units I believe is to try to get the major nations inline with what they had historically at the start of the war. Maybe when we research a tech we are given so many units (1+) of that type when the research is done. This is the prototypes of the unit designed. Or maybe we can double the research cost throughout the research process to get this prototype unit.

I totally agree with you that it makes no sense, piratefish.

Maybe the DH vesion of IC will address these issues and since the code should be more modable these type of things could be hashed out.

Do you (or anyone else for the matter) know how well historical starting technology levels are represented in the 1933 scenario?

To me it seems like something may be fundamentally flawed if a nation is not capable of developing technology close to its historical levels in historical timeframes using the tech tree.

I, at least, find this to be a fairly major drawback of the game if my assessment is indeed true.
