Hey everyone

A lot of people are currently arguing if the new AE changes are too much or not because of how easily coalitions form now. I think the solution to that problem is simple. Make CBs we have now matter more. A lot of CBs currently are not very useful at all. Some people even suggest not to generate claims any more because the potential extra AE is worse than the ADM cost.

So my suggestion is to give CBs some extra something to make them more useful. Some examples (not balanced at all, just to show what i mean):

The conquest CB could let you take your wargoal without any AE(+50% inside HRE), unless its the last province in which case it should be 50%. All other provinces with a claim generate 75% AE. Provinces without a claim generate 100% AE.

The diplomatic insult CB should let you take money from the enemy worth up to 5 loans. In addition any canceled treaties should be locked for 10 instead of 5 years. You should also have the option to make them cancel claims on you and disallow to create new ones for some time.

Trade dispute CB should let you force them to transfer 75% trade power for 10 years for a larger warscore. Or have the option to disallow them to build light ships for 5 or 10 years.

The Diplo-CB (different governments and diplo ideas) Should let you allow to transfer a PU from the target to become a vassal of yours for no AE and vice versa (vassal to PU for monarchy).

You probably can think of other nice things other CB could allow you to ask for or modify specific costs/AE. Maybe different CBs could also result in differently long truces to balance it a bit.

Anyway that was my brainfart of the day now please tell me what you think.

Some good ideas but one way to limit blobbing (and rely less on coalitions) is to properly restrict CBs. It doesn't make sense to me for instance that nearly any CB can be used to annex any province. It's so often the case that I use a CB with no intention of annexing the wargoal at all. At the very least, the penalties/benefits of getting terms unrelated/related to the war goal should be greater.

No. AE is a minority of the coalition complaints. Please do not propagate nonsense.

Retaking core provinces should not generate AE. They are core provinces after all. It isn't Aggressive Expansion if you are simply liberating land which is rightfully yours.

A bigger problem than AE and forming coalitions is that there is no risk for countries to join a coalition and no reward for a player to beat down a coalition.

Since coalitions form powerful blocks which should be able to beat a single opponent (with perhaps a couple of allies), the coalition should suffer if they are decimated in the ensuing war. Instead of finding a brick wall in coalition negotiations, the winner should get to extort anything he wants at perhaps 50% the normal cost.

Well there a two types of complaints. One says coalitions themselves are broken...which is not directly related to my suggestions. Others say the AE takes too long too cool down and in the meantime there is nothing for them to do due to lack of interesting choices. The CBs i proposed was an attempt to solve this lack of interesting choices so that you could become (temporarily) more powerful without actually expanding. If you are not a monarchy and you do not have colonial range then really i can understand them as there is not much else you can do. You cant even plan ahead as alliances can change very quickly still.
