Yes, it`s really about time, since I played M&B a lot. So what`s the state of the game (i mean vanilla + patches). Some annoying major bugs left?
With the old stiff arm fighting style? I think not
Well, let's see: They've taken the original Mount and Blade, which was a sandbox game with one relatively poorly developed route of progression (putting a pretender on the throne), then improved the underlying engine and the graphics, added a new faction, improved balance between the factions, added marriage as an integral part of the game, and created game progression to allow you to build your own kingdom, with your own vassals. Oh, and added multiplayer battle support.
They've succesfully recreated the intrigues of a feudal kingdom, and you think that's "not even an expansion"? All I can guess is that someone has sold you the wrong game. You should contact them and ask for your money back.
don't bother. the free mod "prophesy of pelennor" for original mount and blade includes just about everything warband does, and its an all around better experience. I was dissappointed with warband, it has very little new content of importance. Still a fine game, just not a new one.
(talk to village chief from text window, i.e.)
Your argument has crossed my mind, but I don't agree that there is inherent strategic or roleplaying value in making me take an extra 30-60 seconds to talk to stupid village chief/guild master/check upstairs in taverns just in case the ransom broker is hiding in a room somewhere.
Given that the ability to do so used to be in an earlier version of M&B, I suspect the devs disagreeAlthough I think it was removed back when the intention was to allow for random events like being attacked while walking the streets, which seems to have been abandoned. Although if you're complaining about the reputation raising, have you noted the ability to donate money to random villagers for a relations boost yet? Just talk to them until you get a sob story about how they're starving or similar, and you get the option to give them denars. If you get lucky you can have +12 rep before you even find the village elder.
Although the taverns is just down to spawn limitations; some of the smaller taverns can only take three NPC's on the ground floor, so if the ransom broker or a recruitable NPC is paying a visit it shunts some to the upper floors.
