At his 23rd Birthday, Basarab, hires a Composer, Matthew Voinea, to sing about the glory of independence and security!
All feast and dance at our King's birthday party! But the older he gets, the more his nobles and Octavian, his most trusted General, ask the question: What about the heir? Who will the King leave these poor lands to? Surely not to some far away noble with no experience in ruling such a wonderful and backwards---err I mean capable nation!
A month later, it is announced that the Magyars added a new province to their nation, Ratibor to be precise.
As a result, our General recruits 2 more regiments to supplement our already large force.
Days later, it appears that our King has an heir. A woman came out of nowhere, telling everyone her boy is Basarab's son, after our King spent some drunken nights at the local tavern in our Capital, bragging about defeating Charles of Hungary. Oh dear...
Well...Could've been worse...Right?
Afterwards, we finally get the message that a full administration of our new provinces has taken control. Joyous news indeed!
Following some trade disputes by Naples against Venice, the Venetian General launched a full blown invasion of the Napalese islands in Greece, and as such require our permission for military access. Accepting would grant us some favours with the merchants in Venice. So, the benefit of trade outweighs the benefit of threat.
Genoa also asks for access in order to aid their Napalese Allies. We accept.
Ahh, the Bulgarians have adapted to our way of life! (Wasn't too hard, seeing they share the same religion!).
And then, out of nowhere, the Mongols have raided us again. Curses!
How many of our people need to live in threat of these savages? We must do something about this!
And thus that answer arrived. We are new on the world stage and no one so far have showed any friendship towards us (Not that we had anything to do with that! Honestly!).
But the Bosnians apparently wouldn't mind an alliance. We welcome our first friend!
We also initiate a state marriage between our "Bastard" son George, and their King's daughter, Maria.
May this marriage strengthen our bond!
Now, it is time to search for a strategical ally. The Byantines distrust us, the Serbians hate us, the Mongols raid us and the Bulgarians...Well you know.
So who else?
General Octavian suggested to Basarab an alliance with Hungary. Just because he was the Kings most loyal servant, was the only thing that kept his head on his shoulders for such a suggestion. But the King knew he was surrounded, but an alliance with his former Overlord seemed prepostorous!
Months later, the Horde attacked a Russian principality over tribute payment. This cannot go on any further. The King and the General know this. An alliance with our former Overlord might seem out of the realm of imagination, but given the current circumstances, its our best solution.
Serbia, feeling surrounded themselves by our triple alliance, went in to request the protection of the Venitians. Smart of them. But we have no quarrel with them at all. Too bad they do not wish to be our friends.
We also recruit a fortification expert seeing how if our future attacks fail upon the Mongols, at least they will not take our provinces that easily.
General Octavian already drew the plan for future invasion. The sea will be our weakness, as the Mongols most likely have a massive fleet.
