Tilean Turbulence

Hello AAR it is me back for another AAR or attempt at one. This time however I shall be playing with a new mod one that has caught my attention the Warhammer Geheimnisnacht total conversion. After playing a full campaign as the Kings of Brettonia, I have decided to delve into the mod but this time to take you with me on a narrative journey. After some deliberation and research I have elected to play as one of the Princes of the Turbulent Tilean Principalities. I will take the Prince of Miragliano and try to reform the Myrmidian Empire encompassing all of Tilea and its culturally similar neighbor the Kingdom of Estalia. Seeing as Custom Characters are not an option I will be cheating to create the character I would like to play with however he will not be overpowered. Bellow I will include an introduction to Tilea which has been taken from the Warhammer Wiki as I am not well versed on the subject the link is also included.

Brief Geographical and Historical overview of Tilea.

Tilea is the region of the Old World south of the Irrana Mountains and the region of Mountains called the Vaults. The fractious city-states of Tilea embrace trade, exploration and civil war with equal passion. Some are Republics, such as the Republic of Remas, while others are principalities such as Luccia. Tilea is also home to the majority of the mercenaries of many races, men being the most common, but also Dwarfs and Ogres fight in the armies of the Merchant Princes. There are many Dogs of War (Mercenary) companies forming the bulk of armies in these lands, often fighting on behalf of the wealthy rulers of the many republics and principalities, or further north in the service of the Empire. Tilean wines always fetch a high price in the markets of the Old World.

The land that was once called Tilea, was earlier conquered and colonized by the High Elves during the reign of Phoenix King Bel Shanaar. This is evident due in part to the many lost elven ruins and cities that once were gleaming cathedral of the lands. However ever since the War of the Beard, the Elves had no choice but to leave the land and return to the isle of Ulthuan. Many millennium later, a large confederation of humans, marched their way through Black Fire Pass, and established many villages in the lands of the Old World, from Estalia, and Tilea, to as far north as the lands of Norsca and the Empire.

Tilea is a far warmer and sunnier climate than the lands of the Empire or Bretonnia. Indeed, due to the high temperature many lands in the southernmost regions can be quite arid in high summer. Other than regions inland, those lands near the coastal plains are naturally green and fertile and as a result, easily cultivated. This is indeed a very rich and abundant land for both farmers and nobles to live in. The sea's are also full of fish and the foothills of the mountain are covered in open woodlands which is excellent hunting country for the nobility. The Tileans are known well for their eating and drinking, and there is a very tremendous rivalry between the Bretonnians and Tileans as to which of them knows most about good food!

The Apuccini Mountains are a range of rugged and bare elevation with sparse vegetation along its slopes, but it is still not as cold or snowbound as the higher mountain further north. The Abasko Mountains are much the same, but the Irrana Mountains, being part of the Vaults, are much colder and more treacherous than the rest of the mountain ranges. The Blighted Marshes are exactly as their name suggests: a vast expanse of bleak and dangerous stagnations located at the northern region of Tilea. With little to no resource or benefits to have in the marshes, barely any Tileans hardly ever venture into them and those who do, would recount creatures, that resemble rats, but stands upright! Indeed the marshes are the lands of the Skaven, and its capital city of Skavenblight is located near the ruins of a once proud city that rested in the depths of the marshes.

The Tilean sea is naturally warm and calm during most of the year. It is sometimes tempestuous at occasion, but only treacherous around the rock islands of the coast of Tobaro, and in the Pirate's Current. Apart from this, the sea is calm and easy sailing for small ships and sleek galleys. This has greatly benefited trade around the sea between the Tilean cities, but it has also made the coast vulnerable to pirates, Corsairs of Araby and raiders from as far away as Norsca and even Naggaroth.

There are eight primary Tilean factions. The Principalities of Miragnliano, Tobaro, Trantio, Pavonia, Luccini and Monte Castello. As well as the merchant republics of Remas and Verezzo and the pirate republic of Sartosa. These factions are rivaled and fractious warring between each other for petty dominance. As they have been since the fall of the Myrmidian Empire.

That has been a short overview mainly taken from the link below.

Tilean Turbulence Chapter One : Waking of the White Stallion

garden-of-italy.jpg

Gardens of Palazzo del Miragliano.

The sun was high in the sky, it was early Nachgeheim and already the air was thick with heat. Fabio could feel sweat pooling around his neckline drenching his linen undershirt. Around him spanned the large gardens of the Palazzo del Miragliano. Children ran around screaming, ducking past hedges and across pathways whilst gardeners shouted irate threats after them. The gardens were lush, Fabio’s father had imported flowers from all over the world, alien plants from the jungles of Lustria and tiny flowers from the steppes of Kislev, vines from Estalia, roses from Bretonnia and finally orchids from Araby. His father also being a lover of the arts the gardens also had many statues and fountains carved out of the finest marble by artists such as the famous Leonardo da Miragliano. Fabio loved the gardens, the Palazzo del Miragliano’s were said to be the finest in all of Tilea and he had spared no expense in keeping up the myth. He had installed various seating areas with cushions made of Arabyan Silk and wooden awnings made of the finest wood from Athel Lorren carved with intricate patterns and designs. He was on his way to the finest of these patios, it sat at the very edge of the Palazzo’s gardens looking over the city below. He was to meet Santa Contessa of Urbimo who had come to the city to attend the grand and famous Palazzo della Morena ball later that week. The Contessa lay elegantly under a white wooden awning its legs carved into rearing stallions, red roses grew through its trellises as a silk cover flowed in the breeze keeping the sun at bay. Santa was propped up on a pile of cushions picking at a plate of olives and artisan bread whilst a lutist softly played a tune in the afternoon sun. She looked to Fabio as he approached and gave a coy smile. The Contessa was a beautiful woman thin, shapely and with exquisite hair; it was curly brown and matched her beautiful tanned complexion a gift given by the formidable gaze of the Tilean sun. Her maids seeing the Prince approaching got up and began to scatter, the lutist bowed his head but continued to play. Fabio gave a bow in one slick motion as he closed in observing all the Tilean customs.

“Contessa are the gardens to your liking?”

Santa smiled and gestured for Fabio to take a seat beside her “My Prince the gardens are exquisite, I heard the gardens were supposed to be one of the best in the Old World it really lives up to the tales.”

“I am glad it is to your liking, much expense has been put into it.”

“It shows my prince, sculptures from Leonardo and Pablo, plants of great beauty it is magnificent.”

Fabio gave a humble nod “You are too kind, I am surprised you have not seen them before our parents were fast friends did you never visit Miragliano?”

“No unfortunately not, my father was a cautious man. He would never let me and my sisters join him on his trips.”

“I guess that was wise with Skaven on the road and Rametep ravaging the northern foothills.”

“He was a good man always looking out for us, still I am glad to see the world and you for that matter; how many years has it been? Nine? Ten?”

“ I think it has been nine at least, such a long time we were but kids in Urbimo under the tutelage of Old Filipe. How the years have passed; is the old man doing well?”

Santa looked down “He died a year or so ago, pneumonia.”

“He was an old man, lived a good life. Still it's sad I can still remember him scolding us for raiding the kitchens.”

“Those cakes were good.” Santa smiled “It is so good to see you, you haven’t changed a bit still the little white stallion.”

He blushed “I have always hated that nickname.”

She giggled and gave him a friendly punch “You love it really, and it's true you are of the House said to be born of a maid and white stallion.”

“You know the stories aren’t true, they are fairy tales myths.”

Santa gave a grin “Still you are the Prince of Miragliano, ‘son of the Stallion’. You will need a wife an heir. You are all grown up.”

“I know, it does not feel that way though. My father is but a year in the ground and I am the leader of a whole nation.”

“You are a good Prince, you cleared the Skaven off the roads, made treaties with Tobaro and Pavonia.”

Fabio sighed “Yes but I have yet to marry, yet to please my mother or councillors or even the people.”

“Can you not just marry someone dispel their doubts, settle disputes?”

“But who Santa? I have had offers from all over Tilea. I marry a Luccini woman and the Reman’s will form against me, the Pavonians and the Trantians will form a coalition of counts against me.”

“What about a lower family, a Dukes or Counts daughter?”

“Who though? There are a thousand petty Counts and Dukes. Each with a brood of daughters, cousins and nieces.”

“You know I am yet unmarried and I have my own properties.”

Fabio laughed “Really me and you? No, no you must be joking we are childhood friends.”

Santa gave him a cold hard look in the eyes “And we are adults now, we have both fucked our fair share of lovers. We both need allies now not pleasure and I am a very suitable wife.”

“You are a vassal of Trantio, would your Prince be happy with such a union? Would that tie me to that bastard?”

“No I am a mere tribute to him Urbimo is its own independent County under the protection of the Prince.”

“And you would be willing?”

She gave a smile “Yes I would not suggest it otherwise. You are a handsome man I could come to love you and it would benefit us both. Think the white stallion of Miragliano and the Contessa of Urbimo a union all would agree to.”

“I am not sure, this could mean war with Trantio, the ramifications I can't say yes just yet.”

Santa stroked his shoulder “I am not expecting an answer right away, I had not even thought to bring up the subject so soon but it came up. No let us relax and enjoy the gardens reminisce on older days.”

Fabio felt Santa lean in and he put his arm around her. The sound of the lute mixing with the birds and crickets of the garden.

Fabio dressed for the Della Morena ball, he put on a green doublet with white linen shirt underneath. He wore a white ivory mask in the style of the Miragliano stallion and carried a rapier in a golden sheath for decoration rather than need. The ball was already in full swing; he could hear music and cheering from the city but he was to be late as was the place of the Prince. A grand entrance then politicking until sundown another night of tedium and niceties. Pierre Fabios hand servant and confidant stood behind him green cloak in hand.

“Sir would you like the cloak.”

Fabio turned “No not just yet, Pierre in Bretonnia do they have these soirees?”

“Yes Sir my father served the Lord De Got of Carcassone, his parties were famed across the land.”

“Your father was his head of servants correct?”

Pierre gave a proud nod “Yes he was, I come from a long line of personal hand servants.”

Fabio chuckled “A long and prestigious line your family are the best you were recommended to my father by Lady De Got herself don't be so humble.”

The servant gave a bow “You are too kind sir now we must really be going Lady Costa will be expecting you anytime now.”

“Alright if it will make you happy” he gestured and Pierre placed the cloak on his shoulders.

He began to walk Pierre in close pursuit but he could barely move a foot before the doors to his dressing chamber burst open. In came a sweaty Condottiere, his Morion helmet in his hand. He gave a rushed bow.

“My Prince.”

Fabio was taken aback “Yes soldier? What urgent news have you?"

The man wheezed clearly out of breath “My Prince the town of Taliere at the foot of the Ireana mountains….”

“Yes what of it man?”

“It is gone sir, the..the monstrous Rametep has cleaned it of lives.”

Fabio shuddered “The whole town? Every soul?”

The soldier looked down “Yes, blood everywhere the guard too. Our patrol found it, so horrible the bodies….the children sir.”

“Pierre fetch this man a drink and find him lodging I must see my commanders.”

Pierre looked up “If I may be so bold what is the plan?”

“Rametep was to take only a few farmers a year that was the deal my father made. Even that was too much we must stop him put an end to the monster for good.”
