You don't need one of them to engage warships - the Germans did with Tigers at Salerno - although it sounds like their primary role didn't given them a strong basis for an anti-ship work.
Actually if you ever get a chance to read "Inside the Nazi War Machine" by Bevin Alexander they Germans were firing a British ships in harbor with their Pz.III and Pz.IV's as evacuations were not just occurring at Dunkirk of course, I'd have to go back to read the exact part again but at one point Rommel had closed on a French port with British ships in the harbor and they immediately opened fire along with the Flak 88's on the ships trying to escape. I'm sure there are a lot more examples of this but I don't know how the game represents this, whether if you take a port with enemy ships in it and the country hasn't capitulated they get kicked out or they are destroyed. Anyone know?
