In Game Rules Section

  • If you wish to join, you must post here and get ICQ
  • Native Divisions will be limited. A player nation can have a 2-1 ratio of Cultural to Non-Cultural. Mobilization pool is not counted, but the Man Power Pool is. So for every Two Cultural division a player may have one Non-Cultural division.
  • A player maynot attack through an AI controled neutral nation. A player can attack through an AI controled ally nation or enemy allied nation.
  • We will start the game at the scheduled time with the players that show, if you are going to be late or can’t make it, send an ICQ or post here. We can stop the game and rehost to pick up late players. A player is responsible for finding their own Sub.
  • A player cannot conduct diplomacy with an AI'd player country. It doesn't matter if you had plans with the player prior to the session if they aren't there and their country is AI'd you'll just have to chalk it up as a diplomatic failure.
  • If a war starts and allies are called, where any ally that was a player country but that player is not present and their country is AI’d, it is ok to call on them to join.
  • Players are encouraged to roleplay their countries. Conduct during game play is very important. If you make a derogatory or personal attack you will be cautioned. Continued misconduct will result in the game stopping and the removal of the offending player.
  • Due to the enormous load caused by AI mobilization when fighting countries, we have to announce war plans prior to attack. This will allow us to prevent several wars occurring at the same time.
  • Players must roleplay in game when using diplomacy between countries. All wars must be announced with a countries reason and state their goals for the conflict. A convincing argument for war is all that is required, propaganda is a must and actual proof not necessary.
  • Tech trading will be limited to one tech every 5 years. Absolutely no tech trading with AI countries. Offenders will be delt with severely.

You can get ICQ here

Hello folks,

Almost done with TOW and we should be starting the second edition soon.

added rules people should check out:

New In Game Rules
  • Players must roleplay in game when using diplomacy between countries. All wars must be announced with a countries reason and state their goals for the conflict. A convincing argument for war is all that is required, propaganda is a must and actual proof not necessary.

I am thinking of starting as USA, Japan or Texas....

Hope to have some new interested players, and maybe some old ones that want to try again.

Might I propose being host? As Russia I'll have to do the most micromanagement and (hopefully) have the largest army.

I am not really happy with the techtrading rule. IMHO techtrading should be allowed as long as both parties use the required RP for the tech. No freebie trades.

Also there shoould be a limit on how many native division one can build. In TOW the size of our native armies is ridiculous. Maybe a 50-50 ratio would be a good idea.

Hey ya'll

Kle, please get ICQ and post your number so I can add you to the list.

Prime, you are listed as an alternate host. I'm sure you have a smokin connection on your side of the pond, so when we have issues on this side you can be the host. Your idea for the limitation for native units is really good. I suggest a 2 to 1 ratio for native units. As far as the tech, it is way to gamey for two players to work together through the tech tree.

(ex. Nation A. researches culture techs and Nation B. researches industrial tech. Every year Nation A. and Nation B. exchange tech. or every so many years where they have accumulated enough research points that they wont be adversely effected by the trading.)

Also folks, game day and time are open for discussion, I was thinking of playing on Saturday if that would work for the rest of you.

I would note that Sweden and Prussia pursued the strategy of alternate tech researches, and look where we are now. :D I think one tech trade per five years is quite enough. However, may I suggest that it be permitted to give the AI techs for free? Not to get techs from the AI, or trade techs for land, but just to give the AI a boost. That allows us to support, say, China against a player without getting directly involved in a war; it also allows us to make satellites a bit more useful.

On the subject of the five-month rule, we are not enforcing this, so I suggest we drop it. At the moment we are just rehosting whenever someone drops, and it seems to work.

Kle, welcome, we definitely need an Italian power. But please note that Africa is off limits. :D ;)

now, you say 2 to 1 ratio... you mean 2 regulars for every native? would that apply to standing armies only? or does that include reserves? I would rather have 1:1, but 2:1 works as well

ex:
20 regular
40 reserves
30 natives

or
20 regular
40 reserves
10 natives

as for tech, i would rather have the limit just be what RP said, but am fine w/ the 5 year deal. I understand the need for a severe limitation.

and as far as the time, my preference would be to keep it the same, but am open for saturdays. timewise im pretty open.

also, another idea i thought of was to up the difficulty level, thereby making the ai nations more competative....

Hey ya'll,

KoM, the tech rules you bring up sound good, giving tech to AIs should be for free as you described. Dropping the 5 month rule sounds reasonable.

Lotus, I like the standing army example for the 2 to 1 ratio. Do you want stronger AI or more aggressive AI?

i was thinking of stronger ai, not more aggressive ai... w/ stronger ai, the ai will get a bonus to production of 25% for hard, 50% for very hard... this will help out ai nations

now, the side effect of this will be that those ai nations will produce more resources... this could be good or bad, depends on your point of view... basically, it would mean easier access to goods on the world market

Playing on saturday evening from 2100 to 100 am wouldn't really be favourable. I would like to keep some sort of social life. As it stands now I spend all sunday playing Pdox games online and I kinda like it like that.

Maybe we could limit the mobilisationpool to 1% of the population? eg 1 million people 1 divison?

Being Russia I very much welcome shortages of resources on the world market :p . But I would like a stronger ai too. Maybe a hard/hard setting? or a hard/furious?

edit: never really noticed I was the only one living in Europe in this game.

i dont think we should limit the mobilization pool, as it already has a limit (25% of the population) The mega armies didn't really appear till late game, and as for big armies in the beginning, well you can, you'll just have to pay for it :) I dont want to go overboard in the limiting of military power. I think the restriction on natives should cover it just fine

why change the aggressive setting? i think normal for aggressive, and hard for ai...imho :)

Well, I'd like to join up, but seeing as there's already 7 people playing I assume I missed out on any countries that matter. Perhaps another time...

Okay... I've got the job and now the money... Will be setting up the network for the DSL this weekend (sharing with my new roomie) and would love to join in TOW II... I had hoped to claim the OE, but will give it some thought as to who else since it seems to be already clamed...

Edit 1:
Actually, if I could claim the US... I think some distance from people who can kick my butt would be preferrable this time around... ;)

Edit 2:

I see my poor France has been manhandled in my absense... Oh well... It was a mere shadow beforehand...

Edit 3:

I see the US has been claimed twice over already... Hmmm... Ummm... Well... I could play as... ummm... I'll get back to you on that...

I guess I will claim Austria... Its a land in need of help (and it has a larger population I can destroy  )...

Lamprey, you can still claim Prussia, try your hand as Spain, or - if you feel adventurous - there's Brazil, Japan, China. Or if you get suicidal, there's Persia and Egypt. :D

I'll take Spain if I could then. It seems I'm doomed to play Germany in every MP game I'm ever in, let's try & break the precedent ;)
