I love the new map, the sun reflection in the mediterranean is awesome also the terrain detail, it would be cool to make the political borded look like the SU one in all countries. ¿No?

Yeah, we'll probably all sorts of have map mods come out once the game is released.
Main advantage I can see with having a 3D map ATM is that I can see at a glance where the mountains are.

Looking good. The fog of war needs to be toned down a lot but the devs are already aware of that. I liked that the base icons seems stay on the map even when fully zoomed in (on some of the previous screen shots the bases where a bit hard to make out).

Map look great. I loved map rotation - will we be abe to do it ingame?

Question: will UI scale well enough for game to be playable at 4K resolution?

+1 Nothing annoys more than finally having the hardware to play at super-high res, but then finding that the UIs need a microscope to read. EUIV suffers from this.

EDIT: The video makes it clear why day/night transition is such a useful graphical feature - instant feedback about where it's night time, shows you where a midnight-sun is etc.

PS - does the two-tone ocean indicate different water-depths or is it just a graphical feature?

PPS - I'm going to live in a world of foolish optimism and assume that the fact that Germany is called "The German Reich" indicates that dynamic names has been implemented, as well as dynamic flags. Please don't trash my foolish dreams . . .

So I for one found the video quite informative. And I must say I'm generally quite impressed with the map, kudos. I feel like this time I'm gonna pay much more attention to the current weather effects and the time of the day, which will eventually make the game more immersive for me.

A couple of things I didn't like:

- the sun/moon reflection is really unnecessary and I think it is simply just there to show off what can be done with graphics (and even then it's not impressive at all). Does it add any relevant info to the game? No. Does it look ridiculous? Yes. But I'm glad that it can be modded, so all is good
- Stars as capital symbols. I just don't think they fit in and I'd much rather prefer a simple big dot as in HoI III. I trust this will be moddable.
- The daytime map is a bit too bright for my tastes
- That fog. Hoping for an option to turn it off entirely, but lowering opacity (which is on the to-do list) is a start in the right direction. And last but not least...
- Sprites

The video suffered from the map rotating like crazy, I hope that it will be fixed in the release. It almost gave me an headache.

As long, as we control the rotation, it will be a nice feature.

I noticed Dan Lind saying that Aircraft will be able to operate daylight only or night-time only and the tech tree will allow you to build bombers suited to day operations or night operations -excellent, I like that.

Now we can choose to follow either the American heavy bomber route with a small bomb load that could be placed "accurately" by day from a bomber with a very heavy defensive armament that made daylight operations survivable.

Or we could follow the British route of a heavy bomber with a large bomb load but poor defensive armament that was more suitable for "area bombing" at night.

When designing aircraft the engines and wings will give a capability of lifting a certain weight. The designers then had to decide how much of that weight would be bombs and how much would be guns and gunners. The main thing I want in game is for defensive armament to reduce the "strategic attack" value to reflect this choice.

The map looks amazing. I might even use the 3D model and counter system that has been displayed over pure counters. Those models look pretty good.

I'm hoping we will get more attention on East Asia in the future. I understand the majority of people only care about the ETO (and Germany in particular), but there is a significant minority that want to know things about the PTO. I see that the Chinese warlord states have disappeared, so I'm curious as to how internal Chinese politics will be handled.

Yeah, that's a hopeful sign that things will be handled differently vis-a-vis China. Manchuria is shown as Japan, which I guess could be said to be more historical than having Manchuria a separate country whose military is independent from Japan's, though I will miss the flavour.

PS - glad to see you bounced-back alright after being crashed into by an A-Wing and then having your super-star-destroyer crash into the Death Star (which then blew up) - that was a doozy!
