THUNDER OF THE STEPPES
KR MONGOLIA AAR
CHAPTER ONE: IN THE VAST STEPPES
Part III: Becoming stronger
The war against Xibei reached its hot phase - more and more Ma divisions were drafted and sent onto front. Mongol armies had to move much slower to be prepared against an unexpected attack of Xibei soldiers. Most of them were peasants, who didn't know how to shoot properly, but Xibei commanders planned to simply outnumber the Mongols and to win the war "using pure meat". Anyway, the war was going quite successful for Mongolia - Ungern and his generals didn't lose a single battle by the moment, and general Tornovsky crushed his enemies at Linhe.
One more victory for the Khan

On 9th of May South-Western army and Tuvan army united their forces and attacked Karamay synchronically. THe Mongols had 4 divisions against 3 Ma's, so it was quite a risky operation, but Karamay was very important target, probably the key city to take. Both armies didn't had any troubles with supplying - the Mongols followed their old traditions and "took" food and other goods from the locals. Of course, those who were against such actions, were killed by the Mongol soldiers. The laws of war are always harsh...
On the same day general Tornovsky took the town of Linhe and turned his corps onto Bayan Hot, a city habited with ethnic Mongols. Xibei troops were retreating in disorder, and it was a good chance to make an effective breakthrough on the Western front of Xibei Liangbang Yuan. Tornovsky was doing great progress with his 4th and 5th Rifle divisions.

Two days later Russia fell into the flames of civil war. Ungern was most happy and told his officers that nothing could stop him from his glorious Asian conquests anymore - Wrangel was going to be very busy with syndicalist revolters, Siberian separatists, Finnish and Japanese intervention...Russia, the shadow of the ancient Empire, was no more. Ambitious Left leaders Mikhail Frunze (a former officer of Russian army) and Nikolai Bukharin (famous Totalist politician) led the revolution, and a lot of people, who were tired of Wrangel's dictatorial regime, followed him. These Red rebels looked quite weak, but Wrangel wasn't strong and popular enough to crush that revolt in a few days. So it was going to be a bloodbath in Russia...
Breaking news! The revolution and civil war!

The Red revolters
Meanwhile, field marshal Ma Fuxiang, one of the Ma's military junta, was losing the battle of Karamay - he had 1 cavalry, 1 militia and 1 infantry division, while 3 divisions of Mongol horsemen and 1 division of Tuvan riflemen were desperately advancing, pushing the Chinese back. More and more Mongol reinforcements were following the marching armies, being ready to join their regiments. General Sukharev believed that Xibei was too weak from the Mongol army and it would fall soon.
On 12 of May a part of Russian navy was captured by the Reds. Soviet Russia was becoming more powerful day by day. Wrangel was preparing his loyal troops for the civil war. The Soviets were forming their Red Army as well.
- Good, good. Let these bastards killing each other. It will be easier to kill both Reds and Whites later, - laughed Ungern, - I'll going to beat the Reds until their skin becomes white and beating Whites until their skin becomes red. These traitors will pay for the Tsar!
The civil war becomes inevitable
Wrangel's portrait from the loyalist propaganda poster
The Mongolian armies were coming deeper and deeper into the Ma's lands. But the world ignored any news from Central Asia - they thought that financial crisis and Russian civil war were more important than a little wear between steppe nomads. So nobody was properly informed about Ungern's campaigns. Anyway, the war was going to change the map of Asia dramatically.
Into the enemy territories!
Mongol horsemen on the road
On 21st of May Ungern put the Khan's gold banner on the city hall of Bayan Hot.
- This city is Mongol again! And it will be Mongol forever! - shouted the Mad Baron.
- Glory to the Khan! - answered his warriors, putting their sabers and rifles in the air.
The town was taken in a few hours without a single shot - most of Xibei troops left the city long before the arrival of Ungern. The citizens welcomed Roman as their saviour, as their father. Mongol army was triumphant.

Ungern in his camp near Bayan Hot
The Khan didn't stay in Bayan Hot for long - he decided to attack another city, Yumen, as soon as possible. Ungern wanted to finish the war by annihilating the Xibei's soldiers' will to fight - most of them didn't like the Ma's and weren't stable and steady soldiers. Intensive warfare and permanent retreats would make those soldiers rebellious and morally weak. So it was very important not to let the Ma's armies have any minute of rest or regrouping.
