So I made a character that has a javelin and a shield. However whenever i tell him to attack someone he runs up to melee range instead of throwing the javelin at them. Do thrown weapons only get thrown by an ability or is there a way for my character to act as a ranged DPS by throwing javelins as his basic attack?

I used them once. I think you have to be a certain distance away from your target to throw it.

On a related note, it doesn't seem that dual wielding and throwing javelins are compatible (seems like my dude can't throw a javelin in his left hand). While I assume this is intentional and I admit that it's reasonable, It's a bit of a bummer because now I have wasted points in dual wielding. So anyone wondering, the game's not broken in that way.

But my guy looks cool with a javelin in his right and a sword in his left hand.

To clarify: You can use melee dual wield moves with two javelins, just can't throw the left hand one.
