That final image looks to be a sign of things to come, quite a foreshadow for us man. It seems the NWO are looking to the old the good offense is a good defense strategy, I wonder who will get the Stalingrad treatment this time (Though I seem to notice that Shirvan looks to be that parallel), the Allies or the NWO.

The American front sure was entertaining especially that massive battle near San Francisco. Historians would be studying that naval engagement for years to come!

Chapter 13: Designated Day
Chapter 13: Designated Day
battleship-bismarck-ship-warship-battleships-wallpaper.jpg

The Solar League and Internationale had claimed victory in North Africa, The Middle Eastern Front line continues to escalate and Malta would be the site of the first New World Order territory taken in the war, allowing Aircraft and Naval operations upwards into the Mediterranean. In America, a Climactic Naval battle would enable the Trans-Pacific pact to lick their wounds and retreat into Union State territories to hold off the Americans. All the while Scandinavia, the Shun Dynasty and the Pegu State remain neutral as the world slowly and surely burns to ash.

With the Summer of 1943 in full swing the way forward at least for the New World order looked to be pressing the Russian and Caucasian Slavic Armies further south to retake Shirvan and pressure the middle eastern fronts while defenses in Anatolia could be prepared.

For the Solar League and International it would instead be expanding Air and Naval Influence in the Mediterranean as well as pushing in the same areas of the Middle East. The Solar League itself also needing to make plans to return to the homeland as soon as possible.

08XJtZz.png

Through the summer however the frontline in the middle east was once again looking grim. Reinforcements from the resolved Caucasian frontline had streamed south and in combination with further troops and equipment from Europe, namely the Spanish who no longer had African commitments had forced the International outside of the city limits of Shirvan and now laid at the gates of Persia. In the west Mosul was under threat with a major armored push attempting to push as far south as possible.

This would be a staggering success, effectively reversing the counterpush at Aleppo and further placing strain on the Khitan 3rd Army and 22nd Armored who now were finding themselves outnumbered and outgunned by new Bohemian armored divisions, supported Russian conscripts. The Internationale meanwhile was still reassembling itself to fight a long war to retake Anatolia and recover from losses in greece.

(The Cz.42 Model 10 Medium(Top) and Cz.43 Model 4 Heavy(Bottom) Tanks)

The NWO would credit the staggering success due to the implementation of thier new 1942+ Model armored divisions, equipped with more powerful anti tank armaments and sloped armor. The Cz.42 Model effectively being a modified copy of the Defiant series of tanks fielded by the Khitan Empire, while the Cz.43 Model being a more experimental Medium-Heavy tank hybrid with more advanced parts for use as a long ranged breakthrough vehicle. The appearance of both vehicles on the field had changed Solar League armour priorities drastically, the Defiant series which had managed to work as a stopgap was now out of date despite continued revisions to the design. The prospect of seeing such armor in greater numbers in Europe however was the top concern.

In terms of actually effectiveness the Breaktrhough in the summer of 43 came not from new armored divisions but a lack of defenders as the Khitan Army recalled the 4th Exile Expeditionaries from bases on the Front to west africa for redeployment. Similarly the Khitan 2nd Exiles Army did not redeploy to the middle east as planned due to continued criticism on turning the war until a 'Greek War' especially with the Khitan Marines holding onto Malta.

OQbHRTV.png

4khxezR.png

On the Technological front, the Khitan Army put pressure on both the Kiwi Tank Company and Westing to produce counters to the new series of Czech tanks being seen in the middle east. The KTC had recently finished thier research on the so called 'Champion' revision to the defiant which was proposed for final testing in late August. Westing however had nothing but anti tank rifles and field guns which allowed Formosa Arms to instead steal the military contract for a man portable anti tank weapon.
PIAT-1.jpg

The I-PAT or Infantry-Portable Anti Tank weapon would be the natural response and debatably long awaited response to the domination of armored and mechanized divisions on the field of battle. Just as the musket had changed the nature of cavalry so to was Anti Tank Weaponry expected to do the same to the Tank.

The I-PAT featured a spring launched, shaped charge warhead capable of burning through the side or in some cases front armor of a tank or other vehicle and render it inoperable through killing or wounding the crew. In practice the weapon often could not destroy a tank in a single hit but could incapacitate at least some of the crew or destroy essential equipment inside. The Design would later be copied by the NWO who would use a rocket propelled projectile to produce the same effect. The SBU's solution to increased Armour however was more novel, increasing the level of portable anti tank guns such per unit to staggeringly high levels, as Manpower both to occupy the enemy and crew larger weapon system was viewed to be cheaper than complex anti tank machinery which took time and retooling to manufacture.

(The Battle Tank Model 1944 'Champion' with the 11th 'Wolfhounds' Exile Cavalry division)
The BTM1944 Champion meanwhile would be the culmination of the planned changes to the Defiant series of tanks. Originally the defiant was planned to house an 85mm Gun but between ergonomics and a simple lack of need the project was dropped. The Kiwi Armor Company however had renewed the plans, feeling that an upgraded and streamlined Defiant series would be superior to develop during wartime than a completly new design.

With the intelligence reports of early 1943 and the Under-performance of the defiance against the CZ.41 Heavy Tanks they had been proven right, and plans proceeded to a Defiant with the turret of the planned BTM.1944 'Hercules', a completely new tank that was expected to replace the defiant. after initial tests with the 85mm Gun and Hercules turret, a new crew member was added alongside new Internals and extra armor. By Summer the project had been given official designation and the new revised defiants were ordered en-masse under the callsign 'Champion' while the Hercules battle tank concept was abandoned.

2MS75Zd.png

Alongside the Champion designs were finalized to finally replace the ailing and failing 1940 Golem Heavy tank. The Paragon, which was significantly heavier and expensive was to serve as the basis for an affordable breakthrough tank to be used in infantry support and plans had been drawn up since 1942 for its implementation but design had stalled mostly due to the cost of the project.

With the 2nd Paragon Unit pressed into service to retake Shirvan July, the plans which had continually been revised over the last year and a half were given approval by the army for production. The ITM-1944 'Barbarian' would see the light of day.

OtrqYZ1.jpg

(ITM1944-C 'Barbarian' at a field test in Northern England in service with the 103rd German Cavalry, 1944)
The Barbarian quickly hit production lines, primarily at the Golem production facilitates at Johannesburg, South Africa after some retooling. It would end up quickly finding its way into the 22nd Armored Corp and 16th Armored Corp, the later being composed primarily of exile divisions from the Netherlands, Holstein and Bavaria who had nothing but good things to say about the vehicle, its armor and its formidable weapon, the 90mm 'Gungir' Anti Aircraft Gun. The Barbarian Model A and beyond would expand the weapon to the 120mm 'Mjlonir' Flak Gun used on the Paragon Breakthrough tank. Capable of putting down any armored vehicle on the planet it soon established a niche roll for itself as a tank hunter and breakthrough machine, despite continued reliability issues and concerns with fuel consumption.

Following the success of Malta the Khitan Marines staged another daring landing this time for the Isle of Sardinia. Sicily and Mallorca had both been considered as potential landing spots but were both shot down. In the Former's case it was the worry about a concentrated Italian force making the landing far more difficult than anticipated, potentially resulting in the depletion of the Marine task force and weakening of further invasions afield. In the later's case, Naval command felt that Spain would not be as threatened as Italy in the event of success as Rome lay just beyond Sardinia while the Spanish capital still laid behind the Iberian mountain range.

Sardinia itself had the added effect of enabling a 'Southern' invasion into the Khitan empire through burgundy as well as any invasion all along the Catalonian, Occitan or Italian west coasts. This would further put a tax to the manpower of the NWO forcing them to plan for every contingency while the Khitan Navy could operate relatively unhindered in the Atlantic at the same time.

XcFyejv.png

On the scientific front, July had been a fairly notable month. The Scientific Bureau for Alternative Energy had successful tested and built a practical Nuclear reactor based upon fission principles. After the successful test however news of the Alternative Energy team went dark, the team dissipated and the reactor test site in Australia was abandoned and stripped. Funding for the IBS meanwhile doubled over the next few weeks for classified designations.

f8nfMdh.png

In the Airwar the KAF was now putting effort into both the Core territories of the NWO. A Heavy strategic bombing campaign centered from Captured Airfields in Sardinia and secure bases in Morrocco had begun as quickly as possible during the Fall of 1943. The Campaign would be focused around primarily disabling military industry through civilian structures were often destroyed as a consequence of these raids.

The 4th Air Wing in Algers meanwhile focused entirely on establishing Naval superiority along the supply routes between Sardinia and Tunisia, harming any naval effort to disrupt supplies heading to the new base in the Mediterranean

wvfW1CW.png
.
In the North, the KAF had a different strategy focused more around hunting down enemy aircraft and strafing them or bombing them in their hangars. Heavy Bombers meanwhile focused around disabling dams and other infrastructure deep in Bavaria to disrupt supply lines heading west from Bohemia and forcing them up into Northern Germany. In Northern France, where defenses had been prepared over the last three years Anti Aircraft fire and existing fighter garrisons had managed to pose significant resistance to the KAF who still was adopting the F-12 across its various air wings.

The British, who were also present in this theater continued to focus around Island defend, hunting down submarines and protecting convoys moving to and from the isles.
4NppDch.png

In the East, the Khitan Expeditionaries had opted into a Fall offensive. All across the front the aim was clear, to push the NWO out of Mosul and back up into Dulkadir, hoping to eventually link back up with the encircled divisions in the highlands near Malatya.

Initially the assault had some success and in the flatland of old Assyria and the Syrian desert the NWO had been pushed convincingly back. This however would change as 3rd Army returned to the Anatolian mountains where they found well prepared positions and further reinforcements from Russia, Spain and Italy.

aIfvlmE.png

The Initial push to retake Malatya would fail in early September with the 13th Mountaineers being stopped and suppressed just outside the gates of the city itself. With tank support being required further south in concentrated numbers to overwhelm the Bohemians, any further advances from the 13th and supporting Greek divisions had been halted and the entire strike force was now being pushed back, taking heavy losses the whole way.

Supplies into the salient were poor as well, with many men being reported to have died of Heat Stroke and dehydration after days of intense warfare in the desert mountains of East Anatolia. The NWO, affirmed of its hold moved to close the Malatya pocket with haste and make preparations for a hold along the Ceyhan River.

d5JFcYr.png

By November Dorian Black's 22nd Armored had arrived at Malataya and had decisively broken right through the lines of Southeastern Anatolia in hopes of driving to the lost 103rd Infantry. By the time the Siege of the city had ended all three army divisions had been encircled and destroyed.

In the Course of the brief autumn counter attack the NWO advance had been reversed, at least in the west, but at cost. Nearly a Quarter Million Internationale had lied dead with another Hundred Thousand Solar League troops, as well as countless tanks, trucks and supplies. Victory had come but it had come with a bitter taste. The Greeks however once again had reclaimed another city which meant further recruits, further reclamation of industry and further resources, with each success the Khitan expeditionary army would be growing weaker but the Internationale would be growing in potential strength.

BsLKUM2.png

The Winter of late 1943 and Early 1944 would surprisingly go by relatively uneventfully. While the front in the middle east would not be quieted due to weather as it would have in Europe, lower production and difficulty moving supplies had made the New World Order reluctant to counter attack in Anatolia. This left Arthur Belmore in a position to continue his consolidation at home. Emperor Idris was nearly sixteen and would likely become a prominent figure in Imperial Politics, especially during a potential return and reorganization of the Republic.

tumblr_n9lrticpAS1rkxkpfo1_400.jpg

(Idris IV, In Military Dress, 1945)

The Emperor despite all this time still had support, arguably more than ever due to the increased importance of the Colonies with the Navy still serving a role as well if not as prominent as before. President Belmore needed to protect against a potential coup and with most of his electoral rivals towing the line of the Grand Coalition the last rogue element was the arguably untouchable monarch.

What Belmore could do however was attack the Monarch's supporters. Prominent but nonessential officers were removed from positions, demoted or sent to do nothing posts in China, Australia or South Africa. Monarchist politicians similarly were easy to silence and steps were made to ensure they stayed that way. The Propaganda ministry meanwhile told a different story, of the Monarch supporting the Republic with even the young Idris being coerced into 'helping' the war effort by lending his legitimacy to the Coalition Government. By spring however long laid plans had to be set into motion, ones that could change the outcome of the entire war.

QazRNSo.png

In the Channel the Khitan Atlantic fleet had returned in force attacking the New World Order all along the coastline through use of heavy shore bombardments and bombing campaigns. Raids were undertaken in several key bases and Submarine pens, primarily based in Britanny were bombed or otherwise sabotaged.

The Main effort and wing of the fleet focused on a less obvious target, the lost super battleship, the supremacy, hunting her in her traditional stomping grounds of the North sea and harassing the ship with aircraft and submarines by night and tempting her with detached escorts by day.

TRIVIA--_BISMARCK-_HOOD-3.png

Eventually the bait had proven to hard to resist and the Supremacy had attacked the light carrier Trinity and her escorts of the coast of Flylan. In the resulting battle the Trinity was lost but the Supremacy had been pulled further out to sea where she had been layed on target by the Guns of the Ultimate, Goliath and Maximum.

77a244574473262ea50ced01d31736ae.jpg

In a Three hour long sluggfest the Supremacy and her escorts the battlecruisers Aleksander and Vladimir had managed to critically damage the Ultimate and two of her escort craft. The Goliath meanwhile had to disengage leaving the Maximum which had landed several shots on the Aleksander.

Aircraft however would prove to be the crucial edge against the ship. Wings of Naval bombers could easily pierce the Supremacy's air defense perimeter more easily than more modern ships and when the Vladimir suffered a catatrophic explosion in her aft magazine from Goliath's parting volley the Supremacy had turned to shore.

Limping and alone the Super Battleship would make it only halfway back to saftey before a Torpedo would bring her down, ending a three year reign of terror and earning the Maximum, the last remaining ship to lay sights on the Monster a place in history, despite aircraft being the key factor.

1xU6J49.png

In the Following weeks the Navy would announce the Maximum class, to be built once materials could be made available, with upgraded guns and belt armor. Designed to be the premier battleship of the war, with increased speed and of course a resilient and powerful anti aircraft network of guns to keep the ship safe. The original name of the class, Ultima, was dropped due to Navy considering it to be in poor taste following the Ultimate's sinking.

With the Supremacy at the bottom of the Channel and Air Supremacy continually assured the time had come to finally begin a real push against the New World Order.

ZtlmARL.png

The New World Order however had been making preparations and have had spies waiting for a potential landing in Avalon since the exile. The Location of such a landing however was a matter of debate, as four major locations were possible. The Breton Peninsula was an easy front to contain and support through naval action but was far from England and had limited naval bases in which to take to keep such an invasion supplied. Normandy was closer, had adequate naval bases and could be isolated from attempted to throw any invasion force back into the sea due to the Sienne. Calais was closer still but too obvious as a location and the most heavily defended of the four. The Final would be Antwerp and the Netherlands which held the same advantages as Britanny but also many of the same disadvantages except it was also culturally dutch.

kRKifPy.png

The New world order, from a combination on coastal raids and bombing campaigns as well as thier own intelligence assumed that the Invasion would have to strike Normandy in force, where it would then explode out into Picardie and Brittany in all directions before adequate forces could response. The High leadership of the SBU thinking in nationalist terms similarly ruled out the lowlands as any potential site of a landing due to assuming the Khitan Republic would put lower priority on the dutch and higher priority on the ethnically pure Khitan regions of Avalon. In reality this couldn't be farther from the truth and the Normandy was a complete hoax, dreamt up by British intelligence agents to fool the NWO into placing important assets on the wrong side of the Sienne.

kX10oEq.png

Meanwhile in the east things were once again spiraling out of control. Less and less aid flowing into the Greek Front had once again caused a collapse along the center line in Anatolia. General Dorian Black's 22nd Armored, having recently redeployed to Lebanon with plans for deployment in Europe had to be recalled to prevent the loss of Bagadad. Meanwhile the pressure to move forward with plans in Europe was now mounting, and finally on April 17th, 1944 General Francis Dumont, head of allied operations in Northern Europe would pull the trigger.

normandy432.jpg

It would be named Designated day, an operation that would go down in history as the largest scale naval invasion with over two million men taking part and on two large swathes of coastline in the Khitan Republic. The Invasion itself consisted of two prongs codenamed Buddy and Spike with a third airborn paratrooper detachment serving as support in both to slow down and hamper enemy efforts to contain the landings.

When April 17th had arrived, Thousands of troops boarded landing craft and stormed the beaches, Khitan beaches. Despite the loss of life and the near insurmountable task of climbing the atlantic wall, The Army had returned. Amidst a hail of naval bombardment and the scream of aircraft overhead the Khitan 1st Exile Army had landed in Picardie, while the Khitan 4th Marine Army landed in upper Holland.

efswrND.png

The Efforts in Holland quickly appeared to be a staggering success. With less resistance than expected the airfield at Bakkum had been taken, with further landings up and down the peninsula and all along the barrier islands seizing the region for the Republic.

NfQDQZL.png

However resistance quickly had begun to mount in the North and the New world order wasted no time deploying armor to contain the potentially dangerous northern landing. In the South, the most important landing at Calais by the British and Khitan 1st had also been successful, but had stop to allow for a repair of local port facilities at
Boulogne and Dunkirk.

jAhTCZv.png

The good news in the north however quickly evaporated as the port facilities at amsterdam had been sabotage and now heavy air bombing and shelling from across the frontline had made the lives of the 4th a living hell. Pinned along the coastline and bleeding manpower and supplies the marines were ordered to dig in and hold as long as possible while a breakthrough in the south could be arranged.

9UU7bd4.png

By June the Dutch front had been pushed up into the peninsula again by NWO armored divisions. Bleeding men and supply by the day, General Conrad Green ordered a retreat and evacuation from the Netherlands, the Northern landing had effectively been a success and a failure at the same time. For the people of the liberated Netherlands the ecstasy of liberation had quickly been replaced with the horror of yet another retreat. Further attempts into Cathay would need to be made, from the Southern front, from Dunkirk.

LppXUZ1.png

And attempts there were. In Short order more reinforcements had poured across the channel to bolster the Khitan army. General Dumont had pushed to the Sienne river and the gates of Paris alongside the British and greater Imperial forces. On June 2nd Cambray had been reclaimed by Republican forces and by the 12th Shelling had begun on NWO positions on the outskirts of Antwerp.

The New World order could only stagger in shock at what had happened, another front had opened, the British had arrived and the Republic, the great dragon thought slain had returned to its lair, wounded but filled with a fury unmatched by any beast the world had seen.

The Whole world could now only wait to see what it did next.

You might want to get out the operation bunker shot for this

What can that be, I wonder. :D what will be the Hiroshima of the NWO. ;)

Could by anywhere or anyone that does it. Who knows...

Maybe TTL Hiroshima... is still Hiroshima, you know, since Japan is at war with the Americans.:p

Then again, we still have Gandhi, what are the odds that he gets to drops the first nuke or at least gets the hydrogen bomb tested in the cold war?:p:eek:

I kinda miss the mini-updates/interludes Dragoon and a couple of others did in the Annionaverse with Imperial Hearts. They were great for world building, but I understand why Dragoon decided not to do them to focus more on the story and gameplay. Oh well, at least we still have some Cold War to Modern Day updates after this war to look forward to before Stellaris.:)

That said, I wonder what Communist Khitan Gandhi would think of Nazi-Hohenzollernverse Gandhi or sane-Annionaverse Gandhi if he ever met them?

Also, I see Central America doesn´t have long left. Suprized Columbia is still holding out with angry Brazil on its border, but that probably won´t last long.

I feel like that after the Great American War, the USCA´s defeat will spell the end of a united Centeral American identity. I bet a full on Yugoslavian type break up of the USCA will happen after this war is done, at least a few decades from now if it doesn´t happen immediately. Feel like the various ethnic groups there will have enough of each other when this is done.

I miss them too, I'll probably keep a mind for doing them more consistently next go around.

As for Stali-Ghandi yes well, I imagine he would consider them all a threat to be fair. Though its hard to tell with this one where the propganda begins and where the real man ends. ;)

One always has to approve a gigantic naval confrontation.

Japan had to use it eventually, There are worse ways for such a fleet to go, at least it went fighting.

Getting women on the front line and offering incentive for the colonies to help fight just might let you last long enough to win this.

It got me the manpower. Now my generals just need to win back the territory.

I bet that's gonna bite the U.S of A in the ass some day

It might over the next few decades. Cold War might end up being a bit different looking but familiar at the same time.

Through the gates the gates of hell
As we make our way to heaven
Through the Facists lines

PRIMO VICTORIA

So we’re finally getting D-day now, glad to see the Khitan are finally steping foot on their homeland again, through it will take a lot more work and loses to fully reclaim the homeland.

I’m wondering what war-time much on war-time culture in terms of domestic proganda and cultural developments, since we did talk a bit about Captain America in Vicky 2. I mean, I doubt Khitan proganda would have the cultural power of Hollywood backing it like OTL USA, but I imagine it’s still making significant developments in pop-culture. I assume the entire culture of Cathay at this time would place complete focus on the war and retaking its homeland at any cost, with maybe a few movies about resistance groups in the homeland getting popular. Maybe Casablanca if it exists would still be popular as well, given what the North African front was a couple years ago. And of course, I imagine Superheroes coming into prominence in this time like our own, through probably would include different heroes from OTL. Out side of media, there’d of course be social movements like the role of women in the war that’d be pretty similar to OTL, maybe touching the colonies as well.

That’s it for my thoughts on what war-time Khitan culture might be like. Hope you like what I outlined and and discussed.:)

Finally, Khitan returns home! :D

Kind of funny that after so many problems this war is doing great thing for Emperor Idris. If things play out a certain way, he may find himself more powerful than if Khitan had never been humbled.

The war is moving into a new phase.

Chapter 14: Homecoming
Chapter 14: Homecoming
im-94402

America in Bloody Stalemate, The Middle East on fire in with the the largest maneuver war in history taking place across its length, Naval Supremacy established by the Solar League and Finally, Khitan Boots on European Soil for the first time in Four years. 1944 had begun with a bang, and now the stage was set and the game ready to be played, the entirety of the Khitan Army was now deploying into Francia, the war would be won or lost in the next few month and each side now contemplating its hand.

allied-army-jeep-paris.jpg

On July 1st 1944 Paris was Liberated by Solar League troops in its entirety after a week of moderate fighting. A Key city strategically for its placement on the Sienne and Marne rivers ownership of the territory would now give the Khitan 2nd Army, Lead by General Uther Hall complete initiative into Normandy and Britanny. For the first time meanwhile cameras, both stills and motion pictures could capture the Liberation and dispense it back across the empire first hand, with the image of the early campaign in Northern Cathay being painted as one of constant success amidst the cheering of crowds.

image.jpg

Fighting in its reality was intense the entire way from Cabray to Rennes as Collaborationist Governments and the green regiments along the atlantic wall were reinforced by rail with Veterans from the eastern front. Paris itself had been spared the majority of the fighting but this quickly changed across the fields of Normandie and the Urban lowlands region, the later of which saw the heaviest of fighting.

In early July the Bohemian 44th Guard Army's command was superseded by the newly arrived by the 8th Special Service Army, the evolved form of the old Fascist Paramilitaries, equipped with the latest in armor and weaponry and under strict orders to bleed the Republic for every inch of soil. Over the next few weeks Bohemian artillery would be ordered to level square miles of terrain with little regard to civilians in order to slow the advance and casualties quickly had begun to mount.
9ToWOYw.png

High Command however had expected this to be the case and had redeployed the Khitan Marine corp following the successful taking of Sardinia. With the Eyes of the New World Order facing Northwest, Operation Hannibal was launch, specifically with the goal of retaking Gibraltar and threatening the Spanish industrial core near Sevilla.

The operation would be supported by the Empire's other allies, namely Haiti and Great Britain at Sea with SBU aircraft being diverted to help from the air. Supplies moving into Spain were to be secondary to Normandie, a Gamble but one hoped to be worth taking Spain temporarily out of the war while gains in the homeland could be made.

X3UpL9R.png

The Spanish however were utterly unprepared for Operation Hannibal with only token forces left to guard the southern coastline. Spain which had joined the war as an ally and still had a democratic government was unwilling to mobilize nearly to the level of the Slavic Hegemony, Italy or even the SBU and so after numerous losses in Africa and in Anatolia war support had been dwindling and fresh recruits slow to join.

This had come to bite the New World order far worse than anticipated as the Spanish after some initial fighting at Gibraltar and Algrave had begun to surrender or route en mass. Gibraltar itself fell in short order with the Marine Commander growing so bold as to attempt to take Evora while awaiting reinforcements from the 103rd South African Armor detachment.

In the north the front in Normandy stabilized thanks to British Armor and the BEF who crossed the Sienne and won the key cities of Évreux and Caen. With Normandy under control the major harbors were now open for allied shipping and a flood of further tank reinforcements could arrive as NWO air support now needed to focus on multiple strong points instead of the singular landing area around Calais.

v-vg-jrku41yuf2yo2zv_ex8klpwf7okq1shltx4l1c-741x485.jpg

Further east Field Commander Francis Dumont was planning, Operation Goliath, a massive armored campaign to reclaim the capital regions and encircle the 8th Service army within them. For this he would need an unprecedented number of armored regiments of all types as well as a second landing in the Dutch Lowlands. For that he also needed the political will from President Belmore. His response would come on July 22nd.

Ag0LnwG.png

On that day President Belmore gave a radio address announcing the return of the Republic to Europe and the end of the New World Order. That if required it would be the final directive of the Emergency government and his presidency to see the Capital and the homeland in its entirety be retaken. Simultaneously a fighting retreat would be held in Normandy to ensure no major breakthroughs could occur while attention was held firmly on the capital region.

Within that week resistance groups rose up across the country fighting NWO collaborationists and guard divisions in the streets, destroying railway tracks, sabotaging airfields and killing Fascist officers where they slept.

All the While, operation Goliath, was a go.
QxWe6yD.png

General Dumont's forces would push through the Ardennes early that morning, cracking apart the Fascist Lines while simultaneous naval landings were untaken further north in Holland. Artillery bombardment and air support meanwhile suppressed the Slavic divisions locked up within the Urban capital region. Troops flooding in from the Rhineland were stopped due to a mixture of partisan sabotage and air suppression efforts, which ultimately would be the key factor in determine if Goliath would be a costly operation or a sweeping success.

As it turned out without sufficient armored reinforcements the Italians and Bohemians garrisoned all along the Ardenne Line broke into a full route. With the bulk of the line in disorganized retreat, The NWO leadership had to focus all remaining defenses on the Northern corridor near Amsterdam in order to prevent a linkage, however a lack of concentrated Armour would quickly threaten even that strongpoint.

sCifIZA.png

By the weeks end however the target of the Solar League's push was revealed to not be the Dutch city but Cologne which was taken through the use of Paratroops and Marine divisions sailing up river. By July 30th, Armored divisions had broken through and flooded into a gap near Maastricht to reinforce, the Trap had been closed.

The 24th Armored had drove a wedge into Fascist lines north until eventually severing them entirely. Without sufficient anti tank weaponry the green soldiers of the Atlantic wall were pushed apart like reeds. By the time more hardened reinforcements had arrived to contain the breakthrough the 24th Armored had reached Amsterdam and the line only expanded from there as the BEF flooded into Gelre.
5i90h1v.png

With armored reinforcements, Amsterdam fell by August and the Khitan army had pushed to the Rhine river in the center, pushing away the Fascist lines and encircling well over a Hundred Thousand inside Antwerp. Rather than Surrender however the 8th Special Army decided to fight until the bitter end and dug into the local terrain.

Meanwhile the Fascists gathered their strength on the Western Rhine and prepared to make a crossing near Arnem and Emmerich. Ultimately gathering up the majority of the Armored divisions on the western front to try and perform a breakthrough and stop the destruction of the 22nd Guard.

battle-of-kursk-2.jpg

The attempt came only a week and a half into August but fighting quickly bogged down as Khitan troops and aircraft destroyed the various bridges linking Arnhem to the Antwerp Pocket. Further Bohemian attempts to relieve the Antwerp pocket near Cologne failed ultimately turning to complete diaster when the Bohemian Armored corp took a gamble on attacking a strongpoint near Juchen, the only place the Fascists had managed to advance to on the west side of the Rhine. In one of the largest armored battles of the war, the Bohemians attempted to break out from Juchen and were utterly smashed on three sides.

The Defeat mostly being due to the superiority of Solar League Aircraft and the old defensive positions all along the River, which had been retaken and used for the first time in centuries. Though the Bohemians would cite internally the lack of preparation time due to needing to liberate the Antwerp pocket quickly. Regardless the Bohemians were now up against a wall and could do nothing as the pocket began to close.
9zUGibF.png

By Mid August, the pocket had indeed closed and the 8th Special Army had been pushed out of the city limits of Antwerp Proper. Fighting across the city and its suburbs would be brutal block by block fighting but ultimately without the supplies or numbers the Slavics had begun to fold.

Little by little and street by street territory was reclaimed, each advance a victory in either territory or further depleting the the ability of the encircled fascists to fight on. When the Surburbs themselves had been cleared the remains of the 22nd Guard surrendered and the Second Battle of Antwerp officially ended. After four long years the Capital had been retaken and Francis Dumont officially declared in a speech to his men and constituents "I have returned".

rcdbefA.png

Domestically the costs of the battle quickly forced further investment in various sectors, particularly a Manpower lite solution to end the war. The Empire would be exhausted after reclaiming the homeland, let alone having to occupy Italy and the Slavic Hegemony afterwords, any life saved would be one crucial to the reconstruction effort, and to save such lives would be a colossal effort.

Science, would provide a miracle however, as the Fusion energy project was found to be able to be weaponized. With the unstable element enriched and primed to go off in a chain reaction, an explosive device with unmatched destructive potential could be made, one that Scientists were now testing if such explosions had the potential to ignite the atmosphere and destroy the entire world let alone cities. The Weapon, should it be declared safe and deploy-able would be the secret weapon in hand to end the war quickly.

p1n6aAI.png

Back in Imperial Cathay plans were being finalized for the next Generation of Super Battleship. With practical experience in their use and function the Navy was more reluctant than expected to continue investments into high end armored battleships over more resilient and versatile carrier designs, However, Fleet doctrine dictated that each major fleet required a flagship and thus work began on the so called Resurgent Class, named after the first ship to be laid at the Macau Drydock.

main-qimg-5efa40ceb7e73763e03c89358394cfc1.webp

The Resurgent series would feature an additional gun in each turret, a more resilient anti aircraft array and superior speed in comparison to the Supremacy Class. The relatively restrained enhancement over the Supremacy were ultimately a clear sign that the Navy was moving swiftly towards Johnson's swarm theory both developmentally and through doctrine.

Nevertheless work began on the Resurgent herself almost immediately with the general consensus being that the Ship would best be completed by war's end for propaganda purposes. In a worse case Scenario her guns would serve as adequate naval artillery to defend the core territories back in Europe against another Fascist breakthrough. Her sister ship, the Reliant was planned to be laid at Zealand once the shipping facilities there had been fully repaired, she would be designed with her aft armaments removed in exchange for a limited carrier deck and aircraft complement.

V6ymPoP.png

The Situation on the ground meanwhile looked good. Paris had been held following the Italian counter attack at Caux and Khitan troops had advanced out past Amsterdam into Gelre stopping just short of the Emse River. Most importantly the airfields and Shipping facilities of the capital region had been seized with a new temporary naval base at Den Helder established to keep the Dutch front in supply.

The Fascists meanwhile increased thier own troops investment into the region to stop Khitan advances cold but due to continued pushes from the SBU in the east as well as Khitan Marines and African divisions from Spain, the NWO found itself quickly overstretched.

Unable to properly push the Khitans back into the Sea the NWO had begun to reorient into the originally planned defensive postures in Anatolia, while preparing similar plans to hold the Liore River in the West, and continue to fight tooth and nail for the valuable Rhineland territories in the East.

HnwEaAz.png

For the Republic who was still reclaiming the bulk of its heavy industry plans were finalized for the 1945 Model of Battle Tank. The 'Paladin' series as it would be called had been tested extensively in New Zealand and Australia but ultimately was decided to not be put into production due to the retooling efforts required. Instead the Chiefs of Wartime industry would approve Plan Bravo, which would cite that reclaimed heavy industry rather than build Champions would build the new model of Paladin tank, allowing for Champion production to continue while Frontline industry could produce the new model.

T-55_icon.jpg

(A BTM1945 "Paladin' at Woomera Proving Grounds, Australia, 1944)
This policy would have mixed results as the Paladin design was perhaps the most ambitious yet designed by army Development as it was designed to be effectively the most advanced tank ever fielded at the point of its introduction and as a natural evolution of the Lancelot series of tanks but with the Defiant's design philosophy of being cheap, dependable and with a powerful main armament.

Difficulties in the Paladin however quickly arose under Plan Bravo, as both the 100mm Gun could not be produced in the liberated European territories nor the turret, leading to the construction of the 'Knight' field modification with a makeshift turret and armed the 90mm Robinson-Sterling Anti Tank gun used on British tanks. The Paladin with its proper development Turret and Armament meanwhile could only be produced in limited numbers, and thus were withheld from deployment until late 1945.

BvPsWpv.png

RDjiKdr.png

All the same, the new tank with its superior armor was due to begin arriving in the field before the end of 1944 in limited number and armored doctrine shifted to reflect the new amounts of industry being put on offer. Previous scrapped planned for an entirely mechanized armored force, armed with mobile breakthrough tanks supported by well protected infantry and artillery were put into place.

The effort would expand into an entire overhaul of the Armored corp due to the perceived versatility of the new Paladin design concepts, allowing outdated tanks to be shifted into Recon divisions alongside the venerable Minotaur and notable Lancelot companies.

AzDDaIL.png

By Autumn the Liore and Rhine and both been reached the Solar League Forces, a staggering success. The Capital territories had been reclaimed. Allied forces were arriving to supplement the exhausted Khitan armies, and now for the first time the New World Order had not only been defeated, it had been wounded.

The Landings in Northwestern Europe were not a mere setback but the start of something greater. Millions of occupied peoples had been liberated, and were all the more willing to enlist, Industry had been reclaimed and war enthusiasm soared across the globe. All the While the New World order bled in Anatolia and hunkered down to protect themselves from allied bombers in their own homes.

But the War was not yet over, the Fascists still held Khitan Territory and were determined to hold until the last. Winning a negotiated peace even if they could not dominate Europe in its entirety. To the Khitan Republic, any peace would be unconditional and harsh, No more second chances, the Republic's victory would be absolute.

Its Payback time.

There will be a bit on the culture war next update, as well as an update to the american front.

Finally, Khitan returns home! :D

The war is moving into a new phase.

Were back baby, Oh sweet sweet IC, Glorious Manpower I missed them both so much.

Kind of funny that after so many problems this war is doing great thing for Emperor Idris. If things play out a certain way, he may find himself more powerful than if Khitan had never been humbled.

It helps when your an unfortunate (or I suppose fortunate) byproduct of the Propaganda machine throwing literally anything that can unify the empire together at the wall and seeing what sticks.

Antrep is finally back into Khitan hands, though there’s still plenty of Khitan lands to retake. Now is when the war gets truly serious.

Also, are the Scandinavians ever going to join in against the NWO? There still on thin ice for betraying Cathay in the last World War, let’s hope they make the right decision this time even though they’re late to it.:D

The enemy has only begun now to realise the depth of his mistake.

Revenge is at hand! They're all going to learn just how badly they screwed up now.

Finally...time to get some revenge. The voices of the dead demand it.

Hey, @dragoon9105, I think some congratulations are in order, because I just nominated you for WritAAR of the Week for your work on the Khitan saga! Head over there to accept your praise!

Well deserved award, and welcome back Khitan! May the total victory be close.

The New World Order has to really begin to be wondering where it all went wrong. The answer, of course, is obvious. They let Spain in. I get the feeling that TTL Spain is OTL Italy, it will be remembered largely for it's utter incompetence.

So, remember this comment Dragoon made in Vicky 2 when I pointed out how bloody the Khitan Civil War was? This war is very much like the hypothetical war Dragoon described in this post, so I dread to think how bad this war is for Cathay in terms of civilian causalities and infrastructure damage.
Oh the civil war was quite bloody, Were talking as if France had a Civil War today with victorian era technology with the level of Population the Khitan Republic has in Europe. It would definitely have been bloodier than the US-CW but mostly becuase it was fought across the whole country in a disorganized free for all. If it were a true Civil War the country would be utterly devastated.

I imagine that isn't lost on the people in charge of the Republic, the thinking at this point is probably that if a real War is to be fought on Khitan soil in the future, it would be absolutely catastrophic.
Lets hope the Republic has something similar to the marshal plan to rebuild the Khtian heartland and war-torn Europe after this war is over, otherwise problems might pop up for Cathay long after this war is over.

Chapter 15: For the Republic
Chapter 15: For the Republic
main_900.jpg

Operation Goliath had returned the Khitan Republic to the mainland. Khitan Marines now held valuable port cities in Spain, the advance in the middle east by the Fascist armies had stopped citing shortages of men and material heading to the east coast and America, every the stalemate continued to bleed itself to death in the mountains of Mexico and Deserts of Texas.

The World was still at war, but as 1944's summer campaigns had begun it had soon become clear that the New World order was fighting a losing battle. Stalled on the Eastern front and losing ground quickly in the west, all that truly would matter is what peace would be signed, by who and how many needed to die until the Fascist coalition would crumble under its own weight.

octane1.jpg

With the Middle East having once again stalled the NWO's entire war effort in the east was being focused around the defense of the Caucuses and the valuable petrol facilities in the Ukraine and Don Kuban. With the addition of the valuable Black Sea refineries in Wallachia the NWO could at least hope to draw the war out into a stalemate with its superior deployment speed of modern vehicles and aircraft. In theory at least.

In Reality moving the petrol out of the exposed Caspian regions was another task entirely as Strategic bombers under Anglo-Khitan command had been operating out of Fascist Persia to make any use of these resources difficult at best and impossible at worst. The European oil was safer but simply not enough to sustain a three front war.

1025025.jpg

Meanwhile the Solar League had recovered arguably its greatest asset, the massive population centers of Antwerp, Paris and Brugge as well as the surrounding suburban and industrial areas that once made up the heartland of the prewar republic. For the many who had the suffer the Fascist occupation and had not already joined the resistance the chance for payback was now available.

For the Resistance groups in liberated cities, particularly those of the old divine socialist movement the return of the Republic was a mixed blessing. Many of the resistance groups that had survived had been extremists on either the fringes of far right or leftist politics, the return of the Centrist Republican government did mean freedom from an occupying power came with the restoration of an order that they wished to subvert. The Resistance however was not simply discarded by Arthur Belmore, as its experiences and efforts were considered invaluable for propaganda purposes but also for purposes of the fledgling BSI (Bureau of Special Intelligence).

22-05.jpg

Internally however old lines were quietly being redrawn. The occupation and grand coalition had been a significant shock to the political status quo behind the scenes. Arthur Belmore and his coalition had indeed returned but it had also been formed before the war to deal with the great depression. The President, due to being so deeply imbedded in mechanisms to keep him in power during the exile had stood above this criticism somewhat, with Arthur Belmore's fast military reforms in the face of war being cited as a reason the war could have been continued at all.

For the Political Parties that had supported Belmore's regimes however, consequences had been brewing quietly. Many had placed the blame squarely on the military cuts done in the 1920's and early 1930's. The Military were quietly being considered the true heros of the war and of course there also was the Monarch who famously stayed in the country until he was forcibly dragged out of it to prevent being used as an asset by the new world order, or at least thats how the story went.

photonews_10492046-004.jpg

Idris IV made public is demands to return to the capital as operations were set in motion to retake the city. Though the Government did much to try and suppress Idris and keep him and his supporters out of the spotlight, news spread as it always did, particularly among colonial detachments. Combined with the disaffected and now relatively task less Divine Socialist cells in the cities eager to find places in power led to a narrative throughout the summer of 1944 of the Government intentionally keeping the Royal family from returning to the Imperial territories, despite being constitutionally forbidden from doing so. By August the Government had no choice but to cave to Idris' demands, and the Emperor finally returned by September to the ruined capital of Antwerp to thunderous applause.

Meanwhile the Emperor's return heralded rioting in some industrial areas that the BSI would blame on the dysfunctional left leaning resistance cells that had been completely and utterly shoved aside and disaffected. By the end of the week the rioting had been put down by military police and in some cases combat ready troops and the entire affair had been a grim message to the old establishment that victory had come at a cost. The Republic would be no less 'fixed' than it had been left, if not worse.

F7PUlJd.png

In America the Central Americans had been pushed down into the middle of the country. Unwilling to surrender, Fascist troops now dug in across an increasingly narrow front line hoping to bleed the American alliance enough that it would either sue for peace, or ideally fracture apart and begun to fight itself again. Progress in the south, in the vast Jungles of the Amazon and mountains of Columbia was similarly slow, with the USCA fully intending to hold the Panama isthmus if necessary.

With her navy annihilated, the United States meanwhile could not risk a landing in Yucatan leaving the country with the sour prospect of having to punch through the central american jungles and mountains the long and hard way. All the while reconstruction efforts could start in earnest back at home.
Pe4uOxr.png

In Western Europe the Solar League had managed to push back to the Liore River and now was making preparations for the next big push against the NWO. With only so much armor and air assets available the choice needed to be clear and effective lest the war turn into a stalemate across friendly ground.

A long protracted war simply put was a worst case scenario, it would result in the complete devastation of the Southern and Eastern Territories, result in millions dead and effectively cripple the post war economy. The New World Order needed to be beaten off allied territory and in such a matter as not minimize damages to the country itself.

sFHDat5.png

The New World order was fully aware of this, and had shifted garrisons out of the relatively unimportant regions of Central Francia and the mouth of the Elbe specifically to better protect the Crucial Rhine territories against reclamation by the Khitan Empire. With the Khitan Empire here, the NWO hoped to hold the line long enough to effectively pillage, and move entire factories through various unsavory means piece by peace beyond the Elbe or Alps. When new of these operations arrived, the Army could no longer stall, and drew up plans for Operation Beowulf, an armored Thrust designed to sever the NWO war effort in half.

JKmkabb.png

In the East, the time had come for the Autumn offensives. All across the Syrian frontline the Khitan-Greco force prepared for constant and stead push up into the highlands of anatolia until the lands of Trabzon had been reached. A return to the Black sea would as planned open a second angle of attack into the Caucuses and allow for further pushing in the Anatolian plateaus and highlands by the more numerous Indian infantry regiments.

The NWO, for fear of an explosion in Spain, or the loss of the Rhineland had been steadily stealing troops out of the East for service on the western front, with the hope that the greeks would continue to see the same level of temporary success followed by weakness that they had been experiencing, with a last resort being that at least the Dardanelles could be held as a stopgap to prevent the communist hoards from spilling out into Europe.

N3w5wRo.png

The continued presence of Dorian Black's armored core the NWO did not anticipate. Despite a return to the Homeland, the Eastern front was still considered to be critical for Army command to win. Black Sea Oil was seen as essential for crippling the fascist war effort and ensuring a quick and speedy end to the war even if it meant continued co-operating with the communists.

The Spanish and Bohemian troops left in Anatolia were not prepared for such a concentration of armored and hardened troops, having been fed faulty intelligence that the Syrian detachments had been reassigned to fight in Spain, a climate more suitable than the mountains of Anatolia. In reality, by early September those same divisions were charging through their very lines.

TamOCkE.png

Within a week, the front as it was understood in Anatolia had disintegrated, unable to deal with the rapid advance of modernized battle tanks, augmented by Communist Manpower and air support, the primarily infantry, Dulkadir line shattered and Dorian Black's tanks were now riding through relatively undefended terrain to the Black Sea. The East had not held, it was in full retreat, and if Georgia could not be protected in time, it would mean a spilling out of Communists into the Steppe, and thus an end of the war.

Prague and Rome now had to act swiftly to contain the breakthrough lest they be staring down a major fuel crisis far worse than anticipated. Meanwhile Spain screamed from its own corner of Europe as Khitan Marines continued to advance up through Portugal and across Andalucia. The Real strike was yet to come however.
JOXYhDG.png

The Attack in Europe, rather expectantly came from Troyes and into Burgundy. The Region, thought unimportant by the NWO due to its relatively low industrial value compared to the Rhineland had been garrisoned by weaker infantry regiments and only some armor. By the time the assault had begun however the Fascist general staff quickly realized their mistake.

General Uther Hall, the man in charge of Operation Beowulf had the intent of cutting a full limb from the New World Order by driving along the Burgundian rivers and down to the Mediterranean where Paratroopers and Marines would link up with the armored force at Provence. If the Fascists proved too resistance, the second part of the operation would be diverted to Aquitaine instead where a second prong would be launched to take Bordeaux instead.

The Risk paid off and the NWO soon found their troops in upper Burgundy severely undermanned and ill equipped to fight off a determined combined arms assault down from the North European plain and towards the Alpine foothills.

OmSzMIp.png

By Mid Autumn almost the entirety of the state had been retaken, with the Italians being called in the fill the gaps in the Spanish and Bohemian lines in the region. Still the campaign found shocking success and Uther Hall decided to continue his advance, hoping to take Nancy while his tank corp could finish recovery to push further south into Burgundy proper.

Large portions of troops were pulled from the Rhineland lines into Lorraine for a major push, with new light tank regiments quickly joining in. Within a week the prob had become a full blown assault and the NWO was again caught off guard.

p0WAT53.png

November was fast approaching and with it would be now, seeing this, Uther Hall decided to divert further armored reinforcements into Alsace-Lorraine to surround a salient near Menoux. Air assets were diverted to suppress and slow down enemy troops moving within Lorraine and the Rhineland, trapping the troops deployed between the local rivers and the Vosges mountains.

In Short order Nancy itself was taken and further assets poured south into the Vosges, trapping the reinforcements within the Salient. While not the initial plan, the encirclement now meant that the Fascists were down even more men and supplies, and further assaults south could be made.
joVfVHT.png

The Encirclement was quickly pounced on by Khitan Armored divisions who helped to ensure the breakthrough in October. By the End of the mouth, the Menoux pocket was being assaulted from all sides and the Bohemians quickly retreated into the town itself, further away from friendly lines and into a killing ground where they were shelled repeatably day and night while thier comrades were pushed further away.

tjwMmPQ.png

By early November the pocket was closed, and the Fascists were now digging into thier winter fortifications in Burgundy and along the Vosges mountains still in thier control. Overall the breakthrough had not been as devastating as it could have been for the NWO but it still had resulted in all of Upper burgundy falling back into Khitan Hands.
The Capital region was now free of enemy artillery and air pressure. The NWO had burned more precious fuel attempting to thwart the KAF and the Armored force in thier operations within the region. Meanwhile Spain was once again denied valuable reinforcements, that now needed to be brought to the Rhine, tasking the NWO's numbers even further. If the rate were to continue, by Late 1946, there would be Khitan Troops in Prague and Rome.

3sU4glV.png

The Khitan command structure however were not content with bringing a peace by 1946. Every month that troops had to fight on Khitan soil was a month of further lives being lost, progress being pillaged and devastation to rebuild. Advancements meanwhile were being made on the new Solar Bomb and a classified request, Project Icarus had been approved to produce a delivery method for the weapon.

3ijv1ZI.png

The XB3 Spirit would be the first design for project Icarus. Powered originally by propellers, the production spirit instead chambered the Reynolds 55-44J Engine, a new prototype Combat ready jet engine designed originally for Project Skynight. The new engine and design it was hoped would give the bomber enough speed to quickly drop the mysterious payload mentioned in the Icarus reports and then leave before the aircraft could be intercepted.

h-5_1.jpg

The Spirit ultimately would be accepted with slight revisions, namely in the front half of the vehicle where the cockpit would reorganized so that a frontal gunner could be installed. The original weaponless version of the aircraft, while faster in production trials had failed to convince the KAF high command of its ability to successfully outrun anything the NWO could fly. a 20mm Nose cannon as well as a twin 20mm tail gunner would ensure that while carrying the estimated load of project Icarus, it could still defend itself. Though after test weights were applied, the military was still unhappy with the results, buying the Spirit in limited numbers as an interim solution while green-lighting Project Sabertooth before the Spirit had received its officially JB-1 designation.

CTOCUb3.png

To protect the limited production spirit, the military went forward with the more promising, Jet Fighter proposals. Jet fighters were seeing limited use in the skies above America and Europe, particularly from the Japanese, Italians and British who all had arrived at the technology relatively quick. The KAF however was loath to abandon propeller designs so soon, and continually had pushed for next generation propeller aircraft to compete with early jet aircraft well into 1944.

A total of 70 different Jet Fighter proposals some production ready some only reaching blueprint phase had been shot down in the time until finally the X-71 arrived at the right time to go into production alongside the JB-1. The XF-71 would not be the most advanced fighter in the world, with such a designation still going to the Italians and their Re.2010 Series fighters, but the Republic could produce their fighters in far greater number and the XF could be tuned to perform similarly for the purposes of bomber escort.

528065d99752b09bfd6713c880e71819.jpg

The F71 entered service in early 1945 in limited numbers across Europe, particularly in interception and reconnaissance roles. The Lightning as it was being called was the fastest aircraft yet used by the KAF and ultimately suffered from being the first major jet fighter of a doctrine designed primarily around propeller aircraft. After months of continued use however revisions would be planned and implemented resulting F71Mod.B

With continued success through 1944, and now the writing quickly appearing on the wall, things were looking grim for the NWO. The Khitan Republic was now primed to advance further in Francia come the spring thaw, and now Greek troops had returned to the Black Sea. Meanwhile the Fascist cause in America had similarly collapsed and was now simply fighting to the bitter end.
