Chapter 3: Diplomacy with the Devil
02-molotov-ribbentrop-pact-2.w1200.h630.jpg

War breaking out in America came as both a shock and with brief momentary relief for the powers of Europe. The United States was not well liked on the continent by any power, her aggressive trade policy. dominance of the western petrol Industry and unassailable position had made it a frustrating power for the Status quo of Europe even before the eventual betrayals of the Great War.

With Calfiornia declaring for her Freedom and Canada rising up in alliance with far right militias across the Northern and Midwestern United States many expected the great Juggernaut of America could be taken down a peg. Though it would certainly come at great cost, and humanitarian factions saw large issue with the war, across the rest political spectrum many saw simply another monarchy falling into rebellion and civil war.

In this Khitan Empire, the Focus of the Government and President Belmore remained firmly, on the economy. Several major industries many of them civilian in nature though others military were on the verge of bankruptcy. The loss of such business and thier employees would mean further burden on government programs and could potentially lead to another drop in consumer confidence, and thus a second collapse.

This, it was decided could not happen and Belmore signed into law the Emergency Economic Relief Act, allowing the Government to negotiate on behalf of her failing corporations to refinance, cosign or otherwise simply pay off debts. This act received widespread criticism especially by the liberals and the Socialists as it bypassed Senate approval through use of Presidential order, and effectively put the consequences of failure on these companies on the government and the taxpayers of the country.

Across the Alps, the Italian Government was taking its own steps to address her issues. With the Greeks still reorganizing, Marco Menbrea prepared what the PNF was calling a 'Shadow War' a campaign to covertly seize major aspects of the military and civilian infrastructure in rebellious Magna Graecia.

Sicily as the rest of the world knew it had been in Chaos since the assassination of Greek Admiral and notable Civil War Era warlord Basil Stavros. After the Admiral's death the region descended into Anarchy, with the White Junta nominally ruling the region and keeping it from the Hands of the Communists, and still being the officially recognized Government of the country until 1934.

However Sicily was still a key position for both Italy and the great powers of Europe. The region granted control over the Central Mediterranean, Held the major naval bases of Napoli, Malta and Palermo and despite being rural still held important sulfur mines in the south. Italy herself could not truly claim to be safe from enemies so long as the Greeks could reclaim the region, thus action would need to be taken.

I1xCTRS.png

Italy was not ready for war however, Her economy was still preparing and her military still small in comparison to the Greek Monstrosity in the East. She did however have a likely ally in the Fascist Bohemians to the North, who like Italy wanted to contain the spread of communist and avenge the treaty of Antwerp. On April 30th, The Italians and Bohemians signed the Italo-Slav Pact, forging the Alliance for a New World Order, Otherwise refered to as the NWO in English. The Alliance however would fully come into being with the Italian Ultimatum to Athens in Early 1937 in Regards to the Southern Italian Penninsula.

In America, the Invasion of the Northeast had begun by Canadian Partisans backed by Volunteer forces from the USCA and Scandinavian Republic. Michigan had fallen fairly quickly with the Partisans mainly fighting for Chicago and marching for Cleveland. Similarly, Massachusetts fell after heavy skirmish in midsummer. The Main fighting as since moved into New Antwerp State as Federalist forces rallied around West point military academy to make a major stand.

The Candians instead pushed south, through the Finger lakes and into Susquehannock hoping to make a push for the New Anterp Metropolitan Area from the West and link with the Black Scandinavian Legion in the Hudson Valley.

The Scandinavian Volunteers being part of Fascist Paramilitary groups within the country had hoped that the success of other regimes in the Atlantic would spur further support back at home. The Centrist Government back in the North however denounced such volunteers while the Senate debated on how to punish them.

battle-of-greece-large-56a61bea5f9b58b7d0dff538.jpg

As fighting advanced past Saratoga and into the Catskills it had begun far more Intense. New Antewrp was one of the largest cities in the world and the largest in America. It sat at the center of the entire Northeastern Railway network, was hope to a major Naval base and through Long Island and Raritan held a massive percentage of American Industry.

As days turned to weeks contact was finally lost with West Point and King George III issued the order to pick up and move factories from the Northeastern region south of the Chesapeake to the Carolinas and Florida. where they would be protected by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Potomac. Meanwhile the army redeployed into the territory to fight to the last. A Holding action while defenses were prepared along the Delaware River.

OhhPMzV.png

With such success the United States of Central America immediately began preparations in case of a collapse of the Federal Government. The Canadians after all were mainly fighting for the Liberation of territories north of the St Lawrence River and the Weakening of the United States. The USCA however needed a Nationalist ally to her south in which to move against the Californians and reaffirm control over her precious Oil Fields to her north.

In Yucatan City, Delegates from Canada, the USCA and Columbia would meet to discuss the possibility of a Pragmatic Alliance of American powers. What came as a surprise however was diplomatic overtures from the Japanese, who also wanted the return of her own territories in Alaska, as well as taking her claims in Vancouver.

wq7QA63.png

At Yucatan the Columbians and Canadians both would Join the American Alliance headed by the Central American Union State. The Japanese meanwhile continued with talks to form thier own alliance with the USCA, The Pacific Rim Pact in which Japan would receive not only Alaska but also the Ethnic Californian Territories in order to contain the spread of North American Socialism.

The United States meanwhile would be split into three spheres of Influence, A Puppet of Japan in the American Midwest, The USCA would run a Neo-Confederate state in what was now the American south and the Canadians would be given a Puppet in New Avalon(New England). The American Beltway would be held under military joint occupation.

Of course, this meant that the Japanese needed to actually fight in the war, and the Californians in addition to the Federal Government needed to be defeated. Both of these things were not quite happening as of yet as the Americans continued to fight hard in the North, and the Californians were making vast gains against the Federal Government in the Rockies.

Back in Europe, Belmore didn't so much as enact a reform but deliver on a campaign Promise. The Socialists and the reoccurring Coal and Transport strikes occurring within the country had been a major source of support for Labour but also a major blockage in the Economy. To this end Belmore appointed Henry Orswell a Labour senator to head negotiations with the Unions on behalf of the government, granting them permissions, amnesty and a government pressure for better pay, work hours and benefits.

In exchange the labor union Strikes would stop, cold and further strikes would not be union condoned or supported in any way. This would place further burden on the government to work as a mediator between factions within the country, and give Labour major political capital for further influence, but it ultimately needed to be done as otherwise the Socialists could easy revert to attempting to sabotage the government using the Strikes as an excuse and thus putting the country back into electoral gridlock.

vvbm02y.png

Labour would not be the only faction receiving concessions however. The Conservatives had been pointing at the failure of the Agriculture industry as a major cause of the continued depression as food prices had become widely unstable following the closure of Suez and the Rise of the Populists Bohemia. With America now falling into Civil War, the entire agricultural burden of the country fell on Khitan China and of course the Farmers within the country itself many of whom had continually shrunk their planting or sold off their farms to ride out the storm.

In order to relieve the issue heavy price controls were placed on the farming industry. With the government offering to buy Food at a loss in order to keep Rural Cathay afloat and producing. Swathes of unused agricultural land were reclaimed and nationalized by the government and then sold for practically nothing to Startup corporations or former farmers under contracts to work the land.

NbMXDh1.png

In the Mediterranean, a different land deal had taken place. Italy had marched wholesale into Southern Greece sending an Ultimatum to same day to Athens that there would be war unless the SBU agreed to a Nonaggression pact with the SBU and access to International Oil and Chromium resources for the next Five Years. In Exchange the Italians would extradite white army officers and handle the measured deportation of Greek citizenry back to the SBU, aid with reconstruction efforts in the Balkans and agree to provide Ukrainian Grain and Bohemian Steel to the country.

Mikael Komnemnos who had been attempting deal with the Holdouts in Southern Italy and untrusting of his army and general staff not to betray him in the event the war turned disastrous reluctantly agreed to the Deal. The Italians and Bohemians if they were willing to continue such nonaggression were at least promising on paper to be better partners than the Democracies of Europe.

News of such a deal however was widely criticized in Democratic Cathay, many of whom now saw possibly war on the Horizon between the NWO and the Khitan Sphere. In Spain the Fascists felt a new surge of support as it appeared the Communists were far weaker than originally thought. Meanwhile the British seeing the Fascist surge in America and now conspiracy between the Communists and Fascists in Europe had begun sending overtures to Scandinavia and the Khitan Republic about renewed ties in the North Sea.

lXLq3EZ.png

On matters of Industry, the Military had approved the creation of a new Army Air Wing after reports of the use of the machines in America and in the Sicilian Annexation. However the Khitan Empire had a problem, it had no military airplanes and such the entire Air wing had to be created from Scratch as well as devise a doctrine from scratch.

The Military, acting on its own initiate set out a call for many barnstormers and recreational pilots to join the service and provide their expertise, effectively allowing non enlisted personnel a rare opportunity to command lesser army officers around.

Within the year, the advisory that did sign on recommended the Martel International 'Minx' a favored plane for airborne entertainers across the country to be ordered for military service. The Military then corresponding and ordered Twenty of the planes for inspection, training and testing. Martel international having never dealt with a military order however completely modified their Minx model to what they, believed the military actually wanted, a flying armored tank. The Mit-20 as it was named was more armored and had two 7.62 machineguns strapped to either wing. The Mit-20 famously when it arrived could not properly take off on the airfields constructed to support it, and the Military infuriated demanded a refund for the planes and unarmored ones to be sent immediately. The Minx-21 The same twenty planes with the army taken off post production would arrive three months later.

UNnHUDu.png

Not long after testing had begun with the Minx in earnest, Catherine Brycewell's ordered Army review had finally finished. The results were laughable to say the least. The military having been perpetually neutered in order to save costs and later to avoid influence that could lead to a coup had been undermanned, undersupplied and held primary doctrines that were by many considered out of day as far back as 1920.

Several major generals had been speaking about the desperate need for modernized equipment for well over a decade and could only half hardheartedly testify that if the Empire was attacked today, she would barely last a month against a determined enemy. With tensions rising, and War in America support in the senate was being produced but as always the Senate was divided on how much support the military needed to modernize.

euOWBn8.png

On a more economic note, it was found that the the Empire was critically short on Oil and Fuel Supplies if she wished to properly modernize her military. The Closure of Suez and the Socialist annexation of the Persian Gulf Territories had cut off Oil from the Middle east to the Empire. The Empire having attempted to work around this issue negotiated treaties with Columbia and the United States but now once again had found that oil compromised due to the ongoing American war.

This ultimately was viewed with Critical important by Belmore's cabinet who understood that if the Economy was t recover, the Khitan citizen must have fuel. The Answer of course as to where this Crude could be found, The Japanese who had closely guarded their own resources as they were essential for the Island country to function.

To this end President Belmore sent envoys to Japan to negotiate revised terms, offering the Japanese the Empire's abundant steel reserves in exchange to access to Phillphine Oil. The British Similarly had been making gestures to the Khitan Empire in this time and Belmore's government was quick to ask for Oil from Brunei before any negotiations over European peacekeeping could begin. Meanwhile Prospecting efforts were sent to Trinidad and Africa were sent to find new sources of Crude for the country.

0oZ80Qw.png

In Africa, the Failure of Greece to maintain her hold over Southern Italy had begun to show consequences. Greek Congo, taken during the great war from Spain had officially declared independence and asked for Reunification with its mother country. The Congo being an important source of Rubber for the Spanish Empire this was a major victory.

The British however took stern offense to this changing of the guard as she wished to remain with Cathay the premier colonial power in the world and the British Navy had begun to harrass Spanish shipping to and from the Colony. With politics tumultuous as they were in Spain, many were quick to point out that the British in attempting to effectively privateer shipments from the Spanish Congo were breaking international law.

O1wUWjg.png

By the Winter of 1937 testing with the Minx had occurred enough for the Navy to take notice. More of a bastion for conservative ideas the Navy had surprisingly been intrigued by the announcement of the Aircraft Carrier by the Japanese half a decade prior and had looked into their use and testing.

With the Military review's results in, the Navy with its support wasted no time asking for a Joint mission with the British for Aircraft Carrier testing, and commissioned the British Bobcat as its first naval plane, a monoplane capable of in theory taking off and landing from an Aircraft Carrier. Though the Khitan Empire did not currently have aircraft carriers the navy wasted no time performing tests using small civilian airfields in the Channel Islands, Off Gibraltar and in Colonial Malaya once the planes had been made available.

8CultWV.png

In America, 1937 brought with it the Siege and Fall of new Antwerp. After Months of heavy fighting the Metropolis had fallen to Canadian Militias and Scandinavian Volunteers. Though the actions of the Military and King George has saved some percentage of the industry within the region, once what remained was properly repaired it would serve as valuable fuel for the Canadian War effort in the East.

pNSljPF.png

America on a whole was very much on the back foot. She had slowed the advance of the Canadians around michigan and New york but not stopped them. The Calfiornians however were far more conservative with their advance fearing Canadian attacks from the North, which came during the Autumn of 1936.

The Major push from California however was happening in Old Louisiana and if successfull would shut down the Mississippi supply line in the Midwest for the Federal Army, forcing a retreat to the Appalachians where rail lines could better supply the Federal army.

esKXsL6.png

The Calfiornians however were well aware the Federal Government was not its only enemy. The Canadians would lay claim to her territories in Cascadia and were ideologically opposed the revolution. Recent consorting with the American Unionists to the South and the Japanese had only confirmed these suspicions. The Canadians, thus prepared for a change of strategy, the Canadians after all had the Americans on the Run, and so the People's Republic would need to prepare itself for the aftermath, or potentially a deal with the Americans in order to preserve its independence in a three front war.

maxresdefault.jpg

The CPP had been in place since its formation in the 1920's but had been driven into hiding by Annexation by the Americans in 1928. In that time the People's Republic had operated as a Guerilla army in the Sierra Nevada and Rockies, eventually spreading its influence to the former Californian territories of Cascadia and as far north as Alaska and as far east as Texas. In its ranks was a coalition of Asian descended peoples from the Californian and Japanese Empires united mostly in the resistance of American occupation.

The Republic as it was had slowly become less about communist ideology and more of a liberation movement, just with communist leadership and thus when the time had come to revolt against the united states found little difficult mobilizing against them. This success however had come at a price, many even within the leadership openly claimed to be communist but had other political sympathies in reality.
2942ef5e9d7b9908debcf71467550da4.jpg

Wang Qiu, the Leader of the CPLA was of similar mind, a Social Democrat as heart, openly communist in which to rise within the Ranks of the Liberation Army. Qiu notably did not wish to spread the revolution to the entire continent wanting instead to work with a 'California First' approach, bringing a the world's first Democratic Socialist state into existence in America, a revision of the American dream in a sense. As a result Wang Qiu favored far more passive action despite the strength of the PRC at the onset of the Civil war so the man could focus instead on the reconstruction and organization of the party leadership away from Ideology. Instead of Ideology however Qiu had instead opted for a personality cult, feeling that He and he alone could fix the Republic's woes and win the war.

As the war would escalate, Qiu would become increasingly unpopular with officials within the party but would also progressively shed enemies, sending political opponents to fight in some of the bloodiest combat in the American South or the Freeze, safe and out of sight in the Alaskan Frontier. His power growing to a vast extent since the dawn of the revolution and into 1937.

By Autumn however the American situation would grow far, far worse for Qiu as the Nightmare he had been hedging against had become a reality. He had been proven right to be Cautious but not due to some political plot but because of the very real fear of Intervention of a foreign power. The Worst possible scenario had happened in a matter of months and California's attitude turned from Triumph and Caution

I sure do hope something like that stays in America, It cant happen here, could it?

Seems like you're going down the most stable branch of your options, which I believe is the right call. Nice to see some of nations' focus trees too.

Well, so much for what I said about America.

It is ultimately the most stable Branch, maybe in the future I'll go for some rampant fascist conquest of the world. For now however, We defend Freedom! Everywhere In Europe!

Who has their unique focus trees? Besides the Khitan, I believe the Slavic Hegemony and the SBU are the only ones confirmed to have focuses.

Nobody really has a 'Finished' Focus Tree, But the Khitan Empire has the most extensive one, The SBU, Italy, and Bohemia all have working ones, Scandinavia and Spain have thiers though some options dont work. Japan, The USCA and Canada all have the Focus Trees the conversion gave them. Some of the other various nations have focus trees on Par with Canada's (3 Unique foreign policy focuses that amount to basically "Ally the closest Same Ideology GP).

So democracy prevails, at least for now. Communism and fascism spread elsewhere. While America dies a slow and agonizing death in a three way civil war. Sure this is not Kaiserreich? :p

Nah, No major monarchies in Europe after all cant have Kaiserreich without a Kaiser after all :p

Not that it's very relevant at this point since they lost, but I'm curious about the ideology of the Divine Socialists. How socialist exactly are they? Are they just the Khitan version of fascism, or are they more akin to groups like the Mladorossi in OTL Russia (who advocated for both the restoration of the monarchy and Soviet-style communism... they were weird)?

Maybe they're like National Bolshevism?

Oh dont worry I'll get more into their Ideology in the future, I wont say anything more though right now.

I just caught up again and it looks like things are getting heated already!

And so it begins, in North America

Exciting, I look forward to see how this great clash in america turns out

Oh this is just the Appetizer, The Real Show will start soon.....

First time I've seen a potential second Weltkrieg starting in America of all places. Best of luck to the US in the upcoming struggle.

Democracy prevails in Khitan once more! Hope they can get their feet back up before their enemies make a move, especially the SBU .

Looks to me like the SBU isn't doing too well, A swift kick to the door and the entire rotting structure will collapse...

The prelude to the waking nightmare begins...

I hope Japan and Mexico intervene to make this a wider conflict. Too many alt-ACWs let America fight it out without major intervention, and I think a RCW-esque situation is a more interesting basis for a story.
On the other hand, Texas and California on the same side in an American Civil War is borderline heretical. Perhaps you should end it as soon as possible.

Looks like Japan and Mexico Agreed and also think Texas and New Mexico would look better in Toothpast Blue and Alaska better in Pink.

As far as to why most Alt Histories let the ACW be self contained, Well thats mostly so if your playing america you dont have to worry about getting screwed over by outside powers outside of volunteers otherwise things get predictable or unfair for the American powers.

Take Kaiserreich, love it to bits, but Canada and National France just sort of meekly sending a few volunteers to the Americans and then magically stealing new England doesn't really make much sense when Canada literally could crush the CSA and AUS with Big Mac like a bug. Granted, the Pacific States declaring independence when Curtis wins also makes no sense either to be honest, just makes them seem like cowardly traitors and scummy opportunists.

I wonder if Central America is going to drag itself into that war. If there going to attack anybody, it’d probably be California. They do have a lot of territory the USCA used to control, mainly Texas, New Mexico and Arizona amoug other states. Plus, they may hate the USA given its history, but I imagine they’d hate California more since it’s communists and a facist Central America should hate communists.

I’m glad Cathay is still democratic, but that might not be the end of their troubles in the long run. Still, good on them for dodging the bullets of communist or fascist dictatorship.

Oh they are here and Yes, Centro-America is hungry for Revenge.

California needs some help if they are to pull through. Even if you don't like commies, you've got to admit it's better than the fascists having a whole continent to themselves.

Good news, they changed those two bits of the lore. New England now joins Canada because its governors specifically asked for Canadian intervention (which I admit is still "alien space bats"). Pacific States only declare independence if MacArthur takes over, and even then it's only "independence" as they consider themselves the legitimate government of the United States.

Hmm, I know the US has a done a lot to slight Cathay and other powers what with their very aggressive expansion and foreign policy in Vicky 2, but I feel like them losing for the rest of the world in the long run. I mean, they are pretty much the only democracy in North America so the democratic nations (of which they are very few already) would be losing a significant power if America were to be overwhelmed. They also may have been aggressive before, like I said, but they are also the lesser evil to fascist Central America or a Communist California. Plus, I do want the world's last major monarchy to survive HOI4, there's so few of them as it is here that I feel like its worth supporting the US just to keep monarchy alive even if Cathay itself is no longer a monarchy.

I will admit, things would get interesting if the US completely falls, so I guess we have that reason to let America fail.:D

Anyways, given how simlar this conflict has to an American Civil War in another timeline, I guess we'll brace ourselves for memes from that timeline now.;)

Also, can I just mention how suprized I was at Canada's progress against the US! and to think they were just a tiny rump state for a long time before this war.

Never underestimate the Canadians no matter the timeline I always say, if they don't kill you with kindness they'll be sure to make you feel sorry :D. That said, the Californian Republic's struggle is certainly something to look upon if the SBU ends up a failure.

Speaking of the SBU, I expected better for them. Now they're acting like a paper tiger. What a shame. Greek commies are a rare sight you know.

Chapter 4: Home of the Brave

(American Troops abandoning the city of Baltimore for the Potomac Line, 1937
The Socialist Balkan Union folds to fascist demands in order to better prepare itself. The Populists of the Slavic Enemy make clandestine preparations for something big. The Khitan Republic finally begins to mobilize against an enemy, not with guns but with massive Civil Spending. All the while, America, once the beacon for hope and democracy across the world, burns.

the_empire_of_argentina_by_achaley_d7thlda-350t.png

The United States of Central America, the most recent to join the war and arguably one of the most powerful nations in the world had previously spent the last several decades on the decline.
Since being left for dead by the Khitan and Hellenic Republics against the Americans and Paraguay in the great war the old Republic had been wracked with instability, debt and constitutional crisis. With the rise of Third Way Populism these issues would only expand to include the USCA's old enemy, racial tensions as well.

palineichenberger1900.jpeg

The United States of Central America was always a diverse nation since the Colonial Era, when Syncreticised natives intermixed with Khitan settles from Europe. Ultimately by in large due to Khitan policies of Benign neglect and Zunist Syncreticism the local Maya and Nahau peoples had continued to exist, albeit under a foreign thumb until the predominantly white and wealthy Khitan landowning elite had revolted against the mother country during the continental wars.

The new republic quickly became dominated by the Natives who then in the subsequent decades made moves to integrate large portions of British and Scandinavian Mexico and Texas bringing the Centro-American peoples under a single nation, but also bringing in thousands of ethnic Scandinavians and British into the fledgling republic. The Native dominated government thus made provisions to 'Nativize' many of these acquired regions in the north which gave incentive for the abandonment of old traditions and the adoption of centro-american cultural practices and traditions. This however, backfire as rather than nativise to the intended native Pueblo and Navajo cultures within the acquired regions, British and later Scandinavians became closer linked to the Khitan settles in the South, forming two weighted 'White Centromerican' population centers on either side of the predominantly native center.

Tensions would quickly development in the contested regions between both groups but the Republic for the most part dealt with any major issues as they arose. Centroamerican, a derivative of Khitan with native loanwords was spoken by the majority of the populace and generally the only main political issue within the country at the time was slavery which was abolished in 1844 and included the substantial african american minority also into the vote, though Afro-Americans were spread more equally throughout the population.

The two groups would remain roughly balanced until mass immigration from Europe had begun post 1850 and accelerating during the United States Civil War and European Mid Century wars in Bohemia and the Khitan Empire, resulting in Hundreds of Thousands of new settlers to the region from across Europe. These settlers, rather than 'Nativise' also quickly assimilated into the Khitan population making the Natives within the Republic a shrinking minority but also increasing the economic strength of the republic immensely.

Fig.-10.jpg

However as populations grew arable land within the Republic had come at a premium and Tensions between the predominantly European immigrant population and Natives had begun to rise, Massive swathes of rain forest were cleared while on the Government level the Natives did what was thought necessary to avoid being buried like the Native American Populations in California and the United States.

This would all ultimately come to ahead in the 1900's with the Walker Movement, a Radical Right wing party backed primarily by Northern and South Whites that would ultimately overthrow the Government and suppress alternative political movements through the use of Secret police.

huey-long-during-a-washington-dc-radio-broadcast.jpg

William Walker, Political Strongman, and Anti Communist Partisan and 'Leader' of the Walker Movement had Seized absolute control of the Government in the Early 30's pursuing an aggressive Centralization, Anti Environment and Anti Communist Agenda.

Walker's Supporters however were varied, while the Walker Party did not openly preach racial propaganda, the so called 'Euro' Wing did, wanting to reduce the influence of Natives in government with some going so far as to revoke the Equal voting act of 1845 and thus removing from the vote minorities such as African Americans and Non-major native tribes.

The other half of Walker's party valued what was being called Populist Integralism, which wanted to close the country to all Immigration, Pursue a revanchist agenda vs the United States and pursue radical social policies in order to create 'A New Centroamerican' effectively removing the racial tension through the use of radical eugenics policy and incentives.

Both extremes of the walker party notably, vehemently hated each other and were held together mostly in their hatred of the United States and support of Walker himself who quashed support with supporters of his own personality cult in the center of the party. The Man following his Agenda to rebuild the Republic openly violated the 1912 treaty of Havana with the United States and re-militarized both the Panama Canal and the border territories. Nationalized major corporations across the country, imposed heavy taxation on the wealthy and stacked the Federal courts to make his planned constitutional changes more legal.

However, war with the United States would serve as Walker's priority, granting him the instrument in which to gather the political capital to permanently infuse his legacy into the Government constitution. The Walker party after all was 'legitimately' elected and so retained some pretense of Democracy at least in the moment. Thus the Great American war would be a proving ground to solidify his power in its finality.

If Walker could bring the Americans to heel he could stem the infighting within the party enough to unify the Americas under his planned 'American Authority' programs which would serve to make both continents a Centro-American playground free of foreign intervention, effectively making it walker's Sandbox in which to build his great 'City on a Hill' Republic free of the Ethnic or economic issues of the time, and importantly free of the seductive whisper of Socialism.

On the front the Canadians had continued to advance, enacting a bloody swath down past the Northeast and Into the Beltway. In the West Canadian forces mopped up the remainder of the steel belt and had begun to push south, down along the Mississippi river.

In California the California republic resisted Central American forces pushing into Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, abandoning fronts elsewhere in order to contain the greater threat.

With such staggering progress made in short time many had begun to expect the Fascists would declare victory of the Americans, as Japan had not truly mobilized for the war thus far. The Americans however were determined to not surrender so easily, throwing everything into the Defense of DC with King George refusing to leave the city rather than let it fall to Canadian Forces.
xZL5IhE.png

Back in the Khitan Republic, Arthur Belmore had passed the Economic Safety Act into law, establishing a federal authority to oversee governmental banking and utilities as well as the enforcement of Labour laws. From the ESA Belmore laid groundwork and funding from the senate for his remaining Economic reforms, allowing him to pass many through executive order alone rather can tie up the rest of his plan in negotiations with coalition partners.

Many would criticize the act as being a move towards authoritarianism, effectively cutting the Senate out of emergency negotiations in the future if it passed. The courts also resisted the act fighting it for well over a year while Belmore simply enforced it anyway in spite of a potential ruling. In order to get the act passed in the first place, Belmore promised to appoint Gordon Van Alden, a prominent leader within Labour as its Minister, allowing Labour to effectively turn the ESA into whatever they wished so long as Belmore received his funding.
CStR4Id.png

Belmore's first major act with the new funding would be the establishment of the CSRA, A New executive department with authority over University Accreditation, Financial aid packages and education reform. Less controversial than more of Belmore's ESA based reforms, the Central Science and Research Association had been something asked for by the Technocratic elite within the country for some time and was a major campaign promise of both Belmore and the Divine Socialists.

However the implementation differed as the CSRA was made retroactively subservient to the Khitan-European Equality law, making it illegal for the Association to discriminate between Ethnic Khitans and other citizens of the Republic, at least one paper.

nLPBEBK.png

Belmore then delivered on a major campaign progress of removing several major protectionist tariffs of the Khitan Empire. This was done however mostly as a symbolic gesture as All of the great economic rivals of the Khitan Empire save Japan and Britain were either embroiled in civil war or fairly disinterested in foreign trade favoring parties closer to autarchy.

The real benefit of the new trade policy was closer ties with the British. Though the reform would lead to some amount of Detente with the Americans who had swallowed thier pride and begun to petition the old mother countries of England and the Khitan Republic for aid in the civil war.

image.jpg

The British would send volunteers to the conflict during the great flight from the Northeast, with said divisions fighting in the Battle of the Beltway as early as fall. Poorly equipped and trained at first the British soon had a key part in winning the Battle of Bethesda, allowing large amounts of Federalist troops to cross the Potomac.

The Khitan Republic meanwhile permitted the sale of its military surplus supplies mainly Westing 1920 Rifles, Old Tanks, Trucks and Lyon-Formosoa Great War Era Machineguns. While not exactly a war winning commitment, anything provided went a long way as the Federal forces continued to grind down the Canadians at DC.

1RLFF7H.png

Due to George's refusal to leave Federal forces finally made their stand at DC fighting for every block of the city. Facing fierce resistance and prepared positions, Canadian advancement stopped cold. The Americans despite setbacks had mobilized larger and larger percentages of her civilian population and now outnumbered her. As Fall approached.

Government functions meanwhile fled the city to Atlanta as the Army poured every available resource into the defense of the Capital. The District of Columbia, like new Antwerp before it was a Symbol of American exceptionalism and the Empire as a whole. If the Capital fell the war was effectively all but lost even if strategically it did not hold much value in comparison to Western Mountain frontlines.

With George himself occupied with the defense of his city other events on the continent were conspiring to give the Americans a ray of hope.

L5ZdFt3.png

The Californians, who had been pushed back across the entire southern front had been surprised by the Canadian seizure of Salt Lake City. Salt Lake being the only remaining railroad connection to Californian troops in the west having fallen now mean that almost the entire Californian Army was now encircled by Fascists. Effectively the Canadians had won the war with such a bold maneuver, but if not for neglect of Diplomacy.

T7XI0lu.png

cDjRfJC.png

With the loss of Salt lake the Californians quickly renewed peace talks on a more serious note with the Americans. The Federals were embroiled in a battle for thier own capital and California had the Men and resources to spare in the midwest but were about to be cut off due to ideological hostility.

Wang Qiu made his intentions known in negotiations with the United States Senate, Independence and a border at the 109th Vertical which would include alaska but drop Californian claims on Colorado and Midwest. Texas would be made an Autonomous Republic until the local population voted in referendum to join with a neighboring country or retain its independence.

The Americans agreed, and with the Treaty of Saint Francis, the California Republic and United States ceased fighting on September 1st, labour day and turned their guns North, and South as the Unified Republican Front.
jkrreQz.png

In the Following months the Calfornian army, able to safely abandon the Mississippi pushed west and encircled the 12th Centro-American army outside of Pasadena trapping well over a dozen between College Station and Bay city. The First major victory enacted by United Front forces in the war, and not the last.
MgKSwqr.png

(Japan not pictured as hostile to America because they havent joined against America yet)
Troops from the American south, Dixie had moved up to reopen the Ohio river frontline. The Canadians meanwhile dug into death valley and prepared to face down the brunt of Centro-American forces while the Texan and Idaho frontlines were cleaned up.

In the east the Canadians continued to fight on determined to take DC and break the leviathan's back with one swift stroke. It was not swift, or much of a stroke anymore but more of a continual hammering as the Rock of DC refused to break to the Canadians.

1i3ix2awqye11.png

The Canadians as represented within the war were a complicated topic. Not actually composed of a single nationalist of movement the Canadian war effort was that primarily of the Fascist State of Canada but also aligned with several Radical Socialist, Populist and Anti American movements across the entire american Northeast.

The Bulk of Canadian forces were in fact Americans, revolutionaries in the midwest who had sided with Populist and Fascist movements in Canada in order to overthrow the federal government. Other completely unrelated movements such as the Business movement, on the opposite end of the American political spectrum also wanted to overthrow the monarchy for reasons of protecting commerce.

Meanwhile the Actual Canadians were more focused around freeing their Mainlander Brethren, preserving Vinlandic Heritage and Neo Norse philosophy and had been the main source of major military aid and backing for many of these smaller groups.

As such there was no real 'Unified' Canadian leadership during the great american war, ultimately with each individual faction within the greater North America Movement having its own agenda. In the West, the Canadians pushed hard against the communists who they reprieved as the greater threat. In the Steel belt the Canadians werent so much an army as a mass mobilized army of Socialist and Fascist rabble with Canadian backing that ultimately rioted until the federals were forces to retreat.

The closest thing to a traditional military campaign however was happening in the Eastern Seaboard while Fascist America had aligned with the Neo-Vinlandic Canadian Army to destroy the Head of the United States.

uL_wUcY63f7LSiYY9LrhX8Em1jvfpI07YzEzoF_PHSYCuAsxxDCJdF2P_aiPL15MRoOIIPtVLb9WldCDjmSwAo3AMPHG1OSRhUMViOoDbqghB6gmhAv3pgD4zIqp0IshGLypddkl

The leader of the Eastern Army would ultimately be the Canadian President, Adolufus Jordahl leader of the Neo-Nordic party of Canada. In relation to Jordahl other fascist philosophy of the Era would look sane by comparison, as Canadian Fascist Rhetoric. Outside of policy typical of movements at the time, Jordahl and his followers believed in 'Reverse Syncreticism' a philosophy, wanting to remove Zunist influence from the faith, an adoption of old practices of Medieval Scandinavia and the mandatory use of Drugs and Eugenics to 'Cleanse Colonial and Industrial era pollution from the Vinlandic being'. Effectively to create what was at the time considered a Popular Culture viking state running on a pillage based economy focused entirety on the military and the strengthening of the Vinlandic.

Under Jordahl, English and Swedish were both banned within the country in favor of Icelandic and large portions of the Economy of Canada was stripped to afford a massive military buildup and conscription campaign culminating in the ultimate uprisings and success of 1937. Women meanwhile however were forbidden to work and instead were required to attend re-education programs that hoped to instill Neo-Nordic propaganda into the perceived heart of the Vinlandic Family. Public dissent meanwhile was crushed quietly and without mercy with gruesome public displays being held for those considered to be traitors of the movement.

By the end of the year however Canada had almost effectively fought itself to death, having become reliant completely on Japanese and Centro-American aid to stay out of bankruptcy. Groups of party officials within the Vinlandic Secret Police patrolled the streets in both Canada and Occupied america to forcibly conscript able bodied men and teenagers to fight depleting the countries industrial workforce severely, all the while Thousands died each day on the fields of the Beltway.
pJgATMu.png

Come winter however fighting slowed in America and new major event would make the circuit. The Death of King Fernando had led to the return of the Question of what to do with Aquitaine. The Spanish State could keep the region and thus make gestures to integrate the local Occitan population into the United Kingdoms further, keep it as a colony state or cede it away either to an independence Occitan buffer state or to the Khitan Republic.

Plebiscites on the subject within the region overwhelmingly supported independence but pressure from both the Khitan Empire and Italy remained firmly on Spain not created a new Occitan state, that would likely have the same instability issues as before and thus require future intervention.

On January 11th 1938 the Spanish Government agreed to cede military control of Aquitaine and Toulouse to the Khitan Republic in exchange for recognition an intervention against Communist forces in the Spanish Congo. Arthur Belmore would agree though still openly promised to hold the 1938 Plebiscites as scheduled in the entire region.

qHF2Edm.png
sE0RKHk.png

In the Spring of 1938 however things would change, drastically. The Slavic Hegemony would issue a Ultimatum of Union with the Kingdom of Russia, demanding Russia join the Slavic Hegemony and in exchange King Prusas II would be allowed to assume the title of Emperor of the Slavs, but hold no actual power within either Bohemia, Poland or Russia.

Prusas, Naturally refused and in May the Slavic Hegemony marched tanks across the border, and engaging the Russians all across the region in combat.

In response the SBU attempted to limit any connection between the Fascists and Revanchist Persia by attacking the Xinjiang Republic after the later refused to allow the construction of the Khotan-Caucasia Railway through Xinjiang Territory.

zLN2hll.png

Meanwhile in the Empire, Arthur continued his series of reforms, attacking the Colonial Administration next. It was found during the 1926 and 1930 Colonial Congress' that large amounts of resources, factories and other means were effectively left to fallow due to corrupt policy set by prominent lobbyists back at home. With the Empire's crippling oil shortage on everyone's minds, Belmore attacked these old laws at first before finally attempting to reorganize the entire CAA.

Colonial resource gains were deemed a high priority, specifically Venezuelan Oil but also Rubber plantations in Southern China. As a helpful side effect local steel mills were also reopened at Fuzhou to better help with the Railroad modernization efforts within China and Malaya.
s4u8z8y.png

The KNR, the First Khitan official Radio Broadcast service was established and formalized in the Summer of 1938. Based on the British Radio service, the BBC the KNR would have a reserved frequency for government and emergency broadcasts nationwide. Arthur Belmore would continue his campaign era radio broadcasts through the KNR serving both as an advertisement to the Radio industry and also enable the president to speak to the people directly, raising consumer confidence and better explaining the reforms being made at Antwerp.

Belmore ultimately would explain most of his reforms in great detail on KNR broadcasts at one time or another and would serve to inspire a growing consumer confidence in both the economy and the new market of mass media.

c5sgF9D.png

The Final reform in Arthur's Project Hercules was the opening of Cement Valley, an industrial landmark within the country, Cement Valley had become famous during the industrial revolution for its part to play in damming the Khitan Rivers, construction of the Canal Networks and employment of over 100,000 Khitan workers in the Orleans region. With many of the factories simply left to be re-opened at another time, Arthur Belmore nationalized the region and reopened it under the Army Engineering Corps and administered under the Public works Bureau. The restored factories would help to save the failing infrastructure elsewhere in the country at a discount, while also aiding greatly with Belmore's planned Colonial administration reforms.
d65bTvz.png

As 1938 blew past, It ultimately would be a quiet year for the Republic. In the Americas things had bogged down into a bloody stalemate while in Europe the world watched the Summer campaign of the Bohemian Empire reach its most ruthless and desperate stage as Autumn Mud and November slows stopped the Bohemian army just short of the Russian capital at Novgorod.

The Bohemians had somewhat slow success against the Russians not being fully prepared for war with the Autocratic Empire to her north. The Russians meanwhile received British volunteers which prompted the Italians and Persians to also send support in the war.

The War however was far from stalled, the Bohemians had made staggering success in the field, destroying most of the Russian army while seizing much of the country's industrial heartland. Riga, the capital was under Bohemian hands and Emperor Prusas had already fled the country for Britain. The Russian surrender at this point was only a matter of time.

With this in Mind, the Khitan Senate finally took notice of goings on in America and Europe at large. Russia was about to fall the stockpiles were now dramatically short of surplus and unrest in the new Occitan territories was looking to demand military involvement. Effectively all noise in which to awaken the Khitan people to the very real possibility of war in the next decade if not the next five years.

On December 19th, A few days before the winter Solstice, the Khitan Senate would sign Khitan Army Renewal act, the first act to increase military spending in twenty years. For the rest of Europe and the world over this was a clear sign.

The Giant was finally beginning to stir.

If your looking for a soundtrack to listen to these AAR's or any HOI4 AAR's for the matter, I'd always recommend ace combat's stuff.

America is leading the way, and Europe shall inevitably follow :D

Man... the American situation just keeps escalating, huh? It makes Europe look calm by comparison.

We will have to make sure to prepare accordingly.

Down with the Californian Republic!

California needs some help if they are to pull through. Even if you don't like commies, you've got to admit it's better than the fascists having a whole continent to themselves.

Looks like they handled that themselves. Now, its a real war.

Well that is great to here, that means at least theres incentive not to go with Big Mac Attack if your going Fed. New England is yea.. still a bit, off but Canada gets wanked to hell and back in Kaiserreich anyway so he can be considered a major in 1936, so more forgivable I suppose.

Also, Do the Pacific states still declare if Macarthur takes over if Curtis has his heart attack? (usually happens if the Feds lose Washington and St Louis iirc) I know that was a thing in Darkest hour, dont know if Mac still has his 'Saves the United States in its Darkest Hour' coup in HOI4's Kaiserreich or not. Would seem weird for the PSA to leave at that point considering it'd capitulate the USA in all probability.

Dont ever underestimate Canada. I gave them as many divisions as California with the expectation they couldn't reliably train more. They turned around and uhh, Well almost capitulated the US all by themselves. I dont know if its the USA ai being really, really dumb or HOI4 just innately making fascists better at everything arbitrarily but yea, Canada exceeded my expectations. In some test games they even won before the United Front triggered.

Ironically enough the USCA actually screwed them over by joining the war instead of waiting for the Americans to be dead. Gave the Californians and Yanks an excuse to United Front up. That and Apparently the Canadians really wanted to take Salt Lake city for some reason. HOI4, Never change.

The US lives to fight another day. Now if Russia can just hold on until the Khitans join...

Also, that Salt Lake City "front." HOI4 AI never fails to amuse me.

I'm not sure about that. I think they reworked the whole civil war too (may have removed Curtis), so MacArthur only takes over in certain circumstances. He's also not guaranteed to go full dictatorial every time.

Naturally they'll turn on each other once they're done.
Somehow I doubt George and Wang will stay together once their common enemies are dealt with.
What?! Nonsense, this United American-Californian front will be a glorious alliance lasting forever, just like the actual Chinese United Front totally was.:p

On a less sarcastic and more serious note, does anyone remember when the Mid-West was an independent state under Louisiana?
xfrVmuV.jpg
I wonder if the Mid West question will come up in the Cold War by any chance, maybe some Louisianian nationalism could stir up there? I guess we'll wait and see what Dragoon has in stores after this American War and WW2.

And naturally, I would like Russia to be able to hold out untill Cathay is ready to intervene, but sadly it looks like Russia is going to swallowed by the Slavic Hegemony any minute. Yet another fallen monarchy in this AAR:(
On the plus side, at least the Slavs will be more of a challenge when WW2 properly starts, so there's the bright side to Russia's demise.
