Possibly, but I also am far less detailed, so its a tradeoff I suppose. On the bright side if I keep up the current race the Khitanverse might just be able to grab a few Hohenzollern-verse and Annionaverse references in the Cold War. Or we blow ourselves up again. Whatever comes first.
Wait, what do you mean by that?

Wait, what do you mean by that?

If your asking about the First bit, I was referring to my tendency include less details on specific things in each update but tend to cover more events, so time moves quicker per update at the cost of less focus. I seem to be on the faster end of the spectrum for AARs, but that does mean the nations, leaders and historical characters aren't nearly as fleshed out as someone else's like Your Anne Frank or Cookfl's Imperial Canada. Hence the tradeoff.

if its the Second bit, Its a Typo meant to write rate as in if I continue at my current rate I might include some references to alternate universes or what not to add some extra spice to the cold war and beyond chapters as opposed to just major events (Which if I made slower updates i'd be more focused on).

If its the third bit, Just a reference to the End of Imperial Hearts, where things went a bit, nuclear, Hopefully there isn't a repeat of that in *this* timeline. ;)

So, I'm not the only one that's spooked by Catherine Byrcewell's portrait right? I don't know why it is, but the shell shaded portrait for her is uncanny and unsettling to me. I mean, it is Spooktober, I suppose its a given I'll run into spooks here. :p

Great update through. I'm kinda wondering how Cuba got split in Capitalist and Communist halves, but at least they're not Venezuela which seems to have been eaten by either Italy (since I think Columbia was an Italian colony before WW1) or Paraguay during the Great War.:p

That'd be cool to see, I'd like to see what shenanigans the Khitan would cause for the Hohenzollernverse (If you have @zenphoenix's permission) and Annionaverse.:D

Ah, I see. I was referring to the second bit. Personally, my plan is that the two universes don't officially make contact with other universes or each other until...well, spoilers. But I'll leave room for "unofficial" and brief interactions with other universes. Maybe the Inquisition would be involved...;)

We should probably hash out the details in a PM sometime. That would be best for both of our canons.

Also, to clarify further, it should be clear that the two universes didn't "officially" meet any other universes before 1977 and that contact with each other was the first official contact with other universes. Again, I'm not ruling out "unofficial" contact with other universes through different parties (for example, the Inquisition, or maybe one of my angels) before that, as I did in 1941. As before, a PM would really be better for working on details. Sorry if I come across as nitpicking.

Chapter 2: Power Reveals
PAR75127.jpg

In the Khitan Republic the 1936 Presidential Runoff rages on, Meanwhile New Powers are rising in the east while in the West, Dust Depression and Royal Dictatorship shake the Foundations of a continent to its core. Meanwhile the powers of Asia sit, trapped in prisons of their own making for future opportunity or disaster. On the Ground aamoungst the hunger and unemployment there is Violence Political and Ethnically motivated amount the Vanguard of the extreme left and extreme right. Strikes rage from the Factory Floor to the Coal mines while Far right militias hound ethnic minorities and Socialists under the premise of keeping the peace.

CaQ2eE2.png

Iyr3zA5.png

With such Unrest growing, Catherine Brycewell ensured to act against a potential military coup, as had happened in Italy and Bohemia. The Monarchists untrustworthy in the current political climates and their supporters in the Navy were the first priority and easiest to deal with.

Rufus Shinra, the most prominent Admiral within the navy and known Monarchist sympathizer had been known to be meeting with prominent military officials as well as members within the Social Conservative party. With the Memory of Admiral Stavros' takeover of Magna Graecia still fresh, Shinra was sent forcibly to Singapore with the Pacific Fleet, a soft exile out of the country while the election was performed.

In His Place, John Ramza would be given Shinra's previous command over the Atlantic Fleet. Ramza was the Countries newest Admiral, and had loyalties more in line with that conservative government.
JbBrFGe.png

The Army, similarly was shoved aside with the Army Overview act. An Executive Order that would force the entire army, from China to Francia to the Caribbean to partially disarm and undergo inspection under the premise of modernization and doctrinal studies. Officers with Far Right and Far left loyalties meanwhile were sent to oversee the military occupation of Aquitaine, or to train the Armies of Holstein and Bavaria. Putting them out of reach to interfere with the election.

8sme4Bl.png

Spain, to the South was undergoing similar unrest. The Spanish Parliament was functional but large movements of Communists and National Populists were gathering Andalucia and Barcelona respectively. Portuguese representatives while being members of the conservative party similarly though Portugal's strong military traditions had begun to identify more strongly with the Populists. More worrying still is the 1932 Election had made the National Populists the second most popular party followed by the Traditionalist Party making a Far Right Coalition between the Ultra Conservatives, Populists and Traditionalists certainty possible.

Spain herself had escaped the war relatively unscathed, only losing some amount of colonies most of which ultimately did not profit Spain much at all. The Main sticking point however was the loss of Gibraltar, a national embarrassment that had agitated the population across the country as it removed Iberian control over the straight of Gibraltar and broken Iberian territorial sovereignty.

TkxXJxs.png

This was compounded by the sickness and age of King Fernando who had previously held the country together through the Great War, though his powers were significantly reduced by the Treaty of Antwerp in favor of the Government. The King however was still an influential figure in politics and his death would mean the ascension of his Son Paulo known to be a vagrant and a womanizer both qualities abhorred by the Catholic Led Iberian Empire.
Joey-Moloney-3.3.14-Central-command-and-five-year-plans.png

In the East, the Caucasian Socialist Unionist Republic had recently filled its quotas under the Ruthless Administration of Alexandros Tyrios a major figure in Unionist Party east of Constantinople and a sometimes rival, sometimes friend of Komnenmos within the party.

Tyrios' implementation of Greek Industrial reforms came at heavy cost to many in the Caucasian district of the Union as Tyrios felt that the Union must be industrialized as well as the Khitan Republic if she was to properly spread the revolution. The Eastern Regions of the Empire were rather rural in comparison to Greece and Anatolia and so, at leas under the Eastern Doctrine of Unionism, Industrialization would need to occur in these region to grow a proletariat worthy of the name.

WinEUcC.png

Post 1936 the SBU would be divided into three main camps, The Unionists centered around the erasure of nationalist, and the global connection and defense of Socialist Governments and movements across the world. The renamed Vanguardist movement known as the Revolutionary Front, which felt that Europe should experience the revolution now before they properly put measures in place to resist Marxism and further oppress the proletariat. The Final Bloc was Tyrios' Eastern Unionism otherwise known as Red Imperialism which focused heavily on spreading the revolution through the use of Industrialization and attacking Imperialists in their colonies, Specifically Africa and Asia.

Out of the three Red Imperialism was ironically the least focused on Internationalism, with many of its supporters within the party favoring focusing on bettering the Balkan Union first. The Central Unionists meanwhile had similar beliefs regarding industrialization but instead felt focusing on strangling Capitalism by the heart, namely attacking Persian and Arabian Oil as well as threatening the Rubber of Ceylon and Malayasia were preferable to supporting African independence in Invading Europe. Which left the Rev.Front naturally the most inclined to support socialist uprisings in actual industrialized nations as Marx had intended. The most industrial nation of course being the Khitan Republic.

PpRwZWD.png

At the Spring thaws came in 1936 the Citizens of the Empire would go to the polls and vote for their presidential candidate. On the Far Left was Marcus Simoleon, a Radical Socialist advocating open revenge against the Rich, Monarchists and Aristocrats which had driven the Country into such a state. On the Right would be Dashi Valerin whos campaign quietly endorsed violent harassment while Valerin attacked Communists, Bankers and Electorial Gridlock for the Nation's woes. Arthur Belmore, meanwhile ran up the center with questionable believes but promises and plans to deal with the Great Depression and restore the Republic to a state better than it was left in 1928.

On April 14th 1936 The Results Came in. 34% Went to Dashi Valerin, 28% Went to Marcus Simoleon and Finally 37 Percent went to Arthur Belmore. With 1% being recorded for Emperor Idris as well as other candidates not on the ballot.

kdVwkYv.png

With a Narrow 3% Lead in votes, Belmore was now president elect. Scheduled to take the Office on June 1st after asking the Senate for a Coalition. To this end Belmore with the Conservative 32% of the Senate could approach the Monarchists and Fascists together for a Coalition the so called 'Pragmatic' Option giving him a clear majority in the Senate, continue the alliance with the Liberals, or attempt to woo Labour.

What was important was that the Radical options, a Fascist or Socialist victory in the election was now passed, It would be Bemore's way forward, or another Five years of deadlock.

dfRv9mc.png

By June 1st, Negotiations had reached their final stage, The Liberal Democrats and Social Conservatives after almost a century of mutual hostility to each other would finally shake hands. As the news hit, Socialists and Divine Socialists both levied accusations of corruption, bribery and other conspiracy behind closed doors though mostly these claims fell on deaf ears. On June 5th, Belmore announced via Radio his first Presidential address, promising to End Liberal austerity measures, cut military spending drastically and focus on Social and Economic Stimulus to recover the economy and save the Khitan worker.

rdhgafv.png

As Summer arrived the President and the Senate announced the Emergency Government Intervention Act, Starting the construction of several major dams bridges and roadways throughout the country. Canals left under maintained in Urban areas were nationalized as state efforts refocused to find workers for these new projects and put them to work.

DdDLYUu.png

Meanwhile Belmore and his administration invited several major officials from even opposition parties to draw up what he called 'Project Hercules" for the many different points of his plan. In it he detailed his plans reconstruction and advancement of Khitan Industry, Rapid construction in new technologies such as Radio and Aeroplanes as well as the re-pioneering of old hats such as the University System, The Imperial Canals and the Imperial Colonial Administration.

7TfDFNy.png

There were some, particularly the Government's Critics who saw a different way forward, viewing Belmore's policy as too slow, too soft, too late. Pressing more for the need not to decapitate the military and instead focus on unifying the nation, nationalizing industry and reducing foreign influence in the economy. Taking out large portions of government debt just as Italy and Bohemia had rather than slow the country down drastically with stimulus, negotiations and relief efforts that ultimately may not be enough to help.
Meanwhile others particularly within the Liberal Party felt the Market was still recoverable and pointed towards American, British and Spanish recovery efforts as signs that soon the Economy in the Khitan Empire would recover as well. With Employment breaching 30% for the first time since 1933 however Belmore, kindly asked many of those representatives to leave.

cEP7VNh.png

New from America would grant some respite in talks about Politics in the economy. Of Course the news was not great however. In response to continued American negligence and growing unrest the North American Front had seized several major cities across the region and Declare independence, Joined by Fascist groups in the American Midwest and Steel belt.

Meanwhile in the West the Californian Republic rose up from Occupied Alaska to Texas demanding Freedom, Quality and a Return to Californian National Sovereignty, and of course led by the Communists. By late 1936 the Various factions had organized their territories enough seizing armories and military equipment and having aid sent to them from ideological allies from across the sea. Meanwhile the Americans scrambled to contain the revolts. By the time the army could properly response to black shirt uprisings in Chicago and Maine however things had spiraled far beyond that of a revolt.

The Great American War was on.

Whew, Glad thats over, Long Live the Republic! Long Live, Democracy!

I believe we're gonna see some interesting alliances going by this... Also, America is even more of a giant in power than normal. They look ready to stomp whoever they want.

And of course, the options you've built for where Khitan can go all sound quite fun.

Yea, America.. About that...

That was one massive update. Impressive.

Thank you, Theres alot of stuff going on so I had to cover it all. Asia is still due the same treatment though, So it'll get its turn eventually.

You know, other than my old-time favourites of the megacampaign (the Portuguese Christian hold-outs of yesteryear) the Greeks have had arguably the most interesting history of this entire run. I can't wait to see what happens.

They definitely never disappoint, and to think I mentally wrote off the region as uninteresting for most of Ck2 and Eu4.

Will it work with the game as it stands, or will the game need to be rolled back?

Almost certainly, as I Said, Pre Waking the Tiger here. Death and Dishonor patch. If it somehow works with more modern versions of Hoi4 I will be honestly shocked.

Dont worry, shes gone now, Robert House, Howard Hughes, Howard Stark Arthur Belmore is here to bring us into the future.

So I actually got Cuba' situation slightly wrong, its the Right half of Cuba that is actually capitalist, the left half that is communist, Venezuela had a socialist revolt (Thus leaving puppet status) and then ended up getting eaten by Paraguay in vicky before the great war. If I had screenshots of it I would have included it but from what it looks like, I missed it too.

Woah, That Kind of connection I wasn't even considering on the table, I mean a reference like how Fuherreich exists as someones fun 'What if' scenario in Kaiserreich, That sort of thing, like an easter egg. When i said references what I had in mind was less crossover or contact and more of a book on a coffee table that says Angeloi or something like that. I'd never cross stuff from your universe over like that without prior permission well in advance.

Seems like you're going down the most stable branch of your options, which I believe is the right call. Nice to see some of nations' focus trees too.

Well, so much for what I said about America.

Oh, okay, I understand. I'd be up for an easter egg. Probably makes more sense than a full crossover. Knock yourself out.

So democracy prevails, at least for now. Communism and fascism spread elsewhere. While America dies a slow and agonizing death in a three way civil war. Sure this is not Kaiserreich? :p

Not that it's very relevant at this point since they lost, but I'm curious about the ideology of the Divine Socialists. How socialist exactly are they? Are they just the Khitan version of fascism, or are they more akin to groups like the Mladorossi in OTL Russia (who advocated for both the restoration of the monarchy and Soviet-style communism... they were weird)?

First time I've seen a potential second Weltkrieg starting in America of all places. Best of luck to the US in the upcoming struggle.

Democracy prevails in Khitan once more! Hope they can get their feet back up before their enemies make a move, especially the SBU .

The prelude to the waking nightmare begins...

I hope Japan and Mexico intervene to make this a wider conflict. Too many alt-ACWs let America fight it out without major intervention, and I think a RCW-esque situation is a more interesting basis for a story.
On the other hand, Texas and California on the same side in an American Civil War is borderline heretical. Perhaps you should end it as soon as possible.
