[*]And the only parts of what you submit that I will use for Vientiane will be the parts that are publicised. Come on, please trust that I (as Peter, not as Gothmog :D) still retain a bit of integrity.

Of course I trust you and your integrity, but I was more referring to the fact that it is hard to make information, once known, useless or forgotten .

For example, if you believe a rumour (and that rumour appears to be indeed true) that the Mughals are going to attack Vientiane together with Vijanagar, how in this world would that prevent Vientiane from knowing this? :D

I would find it extremely difficult to play and ignore this information. But granted, if one can do it, it is Gothmog

I don't know if you got my submission Peter buts its on ICQ, I better send it as PM also.
If it is not sent to me by PM, I am quite likely to overlook it, ignore it, or forget it... I tend to read ICQ logs after the fact, unless I know what I am looking for. With PMs, I have all the recent PMs in a neat little list, and if people include "HOP" or "Hour of Power" in the subject it is easy for me to see what is relevant.

If indeed I got such a rumour specifically aimed at me and believed it in any way credible (and probably even if I did not), I would have to include it in the Hour of Power, such that Gothmog - and everybody else - would know of it. Thus I would avoid the conflict of interest of knowing-but-not-knowing.

The one who has the hard job is Wyvern. One day, he is going to receive a handful of orders every single one of which targets China with offensive spells. If he has not written his own spell list by then, which might happen if he has a busy week, he is in a terrible position though I trust him to do the right thing. (Allow me to arbitrate his decision, just like I would ask him to arbitrate mine if I were to find myself in one where my GM and PLAYER duties and knowledge were in stark conflict)

That's a problem we worried about in the NPPBEM game Peter, and I think the best solution is for the GM to put his orders in writing before opening the email box. That way, the GM has the same deadline for orders as everyone else, and all you need to do is trust the GM not to change his orders after opening those of others, rather than trusting him not to be subliminally affecting by them.

A good solution - if all edits were to be carried out after the deadline. On the other hand, both Wyvern and I are busy people, so we prefer to do edits as soon as they are definite and we have time. I.e. if Wyvern has some edits figured out already Tuesday, it is quite likely that they will be done Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday rather than us having to deal with all the edits in one go at the end of the week. :)

And I can tell you all, not even you know yourself what (if anything) of the gossips you've posted to Peter actually are in the HoP you are reading.

I read and read the HoP's and wonder where the heck did I send all those 543 lines of gossips... But then a few day later HoP points are awarded, and it appears something has gotten through. Altough I do believe Peter prints the messages, uses a gaugestick to measure how long the message is on paper (altough I do suspect his gauge has a +/- 100% error range), then writes a story he likes, then awards points according to his ("slightly" erroneus) gauging, without actually bothering to check the content of the messages...

:D :p

Well, you know how it is. If somebody spends - hypothetically - forty lines describing how a war goes, who stabhits whom when and where, that would be excellent for a documentary a couple of decades later - but it is not really the stuff that the viewers like in a show like the Hour of Power. They want something snappy, some action, a bit of faux intellectual analysis on the deatbeat level, and to know who backstabbed whom. Or possibly something with human interest. Or inhuman.

Now, if somebody else bothered to submit an account of the war with a DIFFERENT description, then something could be made of it. Tension. Drama. Betrayal. If not, it is just so many lines to cut down to words using one syllable or less. Possibly mentioning that somebody won and somebody lost.

A note from Mephistopheles. Next time he receives a message including an "and then I sent five colonists to area X" he will wax wroth, unless area X is really, truly, interesting. :D

Oh, and then occasionally, there will be specials focusing on a single topic. You will notice.

It's a good solution and one I already try and employ as it makes things easier for me not having to worry about conflicts of interest afterwards. Last turn was easy - Peter did the orders and I just sent him mine like everyone else did guessing correctly that nobody would dare spell attack me :D (Robertus' orders were the only one's I'd seen at the time ;)). This turn I had my orders written down by Tuesday and had recieved no orders by then so it was no problem, but like other people, on some occassions I might not manage to be so efficient! I think both Peter and I are mature enough for it not to be an issue especially in the type of campaign we're running here, and if conflicts of interest do arise we'll discuss and sort them out between the two of us.

Hmmm... so this does mean good ol' Meph isn't necessarily interested how much it does cost to send a colonist to Zima, *or* what the predicted and actual success-rate of sending colonists to mentioned Zima is? <note to self: no more cost efficiency reports of colonising to HoP-reports>

I think I should provide a list of interesting things in Chagatai lands then?

Is Meph interested in Wool? Because there is lots of wool around, and most of it is Chagatai lands. I guess I could provide an essay on different types of wool, that surely would be interesting, wouldn't it?

Oh, and then there is also wool! No wait, I think I did mention wool already. Please ignore this second reference to wool on this "List of interesting things in Chagatai".

Hmm... I guess the above list about covers basically all of the interesting things in Chagatai lands. I hope Mephistopheles will find one of the above interesting enough to be covered in his special editions.

It is indeed most interesting to see one of my brothers feel the Horselords have too much income. Well, luckily that somebody did not hit a Sheep-province, because most obviously all my brothers are smart enough to know that I would not let anything disturb the silence of the lambs.

Reading Wyvern's AAR, it would appear that somebody preferred targeting your province of Delhi to some insignificant province of sheep-molesters.

Well, one reason could also be that Delhi is not my core-province :) Else I fail to see why brother Sui (the usual suspect, ie guilty unless he succeds to prove somebody else is ;) ) would like to drop the tax-value of a province he desires to take :p

I suspect that if one looked closely, one could find a sheep province of yours in the former Uzbek lands, that is not a core. Anyhow, one must admit that you got off lightly compared to some others. Looks like Muhammed got targeted by a cabal of brothers. :)

Of course. But then there is also the hilarious fact that somebody wants to hurt Chagatai *economy*. I am not saying brother Muhammed wasn't hit bad (he was), but comparing the relative economic losses, their loss does not look so bad to me (and I agree that I am not the most objective mind in this matter)

Taking 3 ducats from somebody who has 50 ducats is not nice. Taking 2 ducats from somebody who has 10 ducats is also not very nice ;)

Besides, I am not saying I haven't used offensive spells myself (but neither am I saying I have used). But *I* don't like to be a target of an offesive spell :D

Most likely its someone trying to provoke you into starting a war in India.

Looks like Muhammed got targeted by a cabal of brothers.

Ah, but the question is.... who are the members of this cabal, and what are their long term goals?

I think the fortification spells need finetuning it seems absurd to me.

Right now it costs 5 pp to build a minimal fort, 7 for small, 9 for medium, 11 for large, 13 for huge and 15 for impragnable. (not sure if i got the fort names right been a while). it costs 10 pp to kill the forts, so basically this means after medium its allways cheap to kill the forts. The offensive spells are in general the other way around. (cheaper to build, more expensive to brake).

Is this purposedly made this way to prevent too big fortifications from being built, basically anything above small is not smart to do anymore with this spell, maybe medium borderline. Also 5pp for tiny forts may be a bit too much considering they don't cost much at all and you can raise more cash through gold pp spell. same for small actually.

Or is this ment so that every player should go defensiev and never go offensive as the only way to build forts is through defensive now, since PP won't cut it :(
