Madurai started out as OPM in 1444? Interesting... usually, when I discovered India, I almost always found Madurai being still around and was more than just an OPM. Must be quite some luck they had.![]()
The tag is also used for the Madurai nayaka which historically broke off from VIJ along with a whole bunch of other governorships in the wake of the sack of the city of victory at the hands of the Deccan sultanates.
The Tamil lands where very economically dominant within the empire and the risk of them breaking off was a reoccuring thing untill they did. In 1444 they're pretty freshly conquered still.
Madurai revolting is also more or less what tends to happen in the game (it is very rare to ever see both Bahmanis and Vijayanagar splinter but thats just down to how the game works).
As far as eu4 is concerned the nayak state of madurai is probably the more important entity compared to the Pandya remnant. Any NI set would have to reflect both (not that big a stretch tbh though, given how similar their circumstances wouldve been if the Pandyas had stayed in power).
Its before the games timeframe but there was also a Madurai sultanate for a while, the city is one of those places that lend themselves to building a kingdom around
Buuut i fear we are drifting off topic now. I mostly wanted to mention that they're there, it's been interesting reading the discussion that followed though
